I was sad when we released Kenny, and as more and more time goes by without any news I am thinking...... should we ask him back??
LOL. drowning not waving.
New signings. Piece of cake. We run a Warehouse Chance NZ. All the ASB Prem players, play off for a chance to make the Phoenix - we sell the rights of the doco (with lots of Warehouse product placement), to buy a marquee player. And finally my boy Aaron Clapham wins a place at the Phoenix - and everything is right with the world.
Pellegrini's been sacked. Ernie Merrick's off to coach Man City.
Ricki's making a comeback, on the back of the publicity from that polarising article.
Nah, Ricki is off to coach Mexico now that they've just sacked Herrera for punching a journalist.
The new Mexican FA president was quoted as saying that ethics and behaviour are more important than winning matches.
He was impressed that Ricki didn't call on that NZ Herald journalist who defamed him the other day and attempt to deck him.
"We want to align with New Zealand. We are now looking for restraint, understatement, predictability and lack of flare in a manager."

He has signed with Herediano from Costa Rica some time ago

There will be some kids from Weenix promoted. Have you accounted for them?
No. But thought Ridenton and Rufer (being 19) were our Youth. We'll have a young team then.
Not as young as the team has been at times in the last three weeks' pre-season games.
Meh. Until we get a fair deal in the FFA cup I couldn't care less. Send the WeeNix.
Maybe we are waiting for the 'marquee' rule change? Rumours are that the FFA are going to allow a second international marque spot, I assume replacing the Australian one. Not that we would buy a true marquee but it would allow us to spend more on the player we want.
A-LEAGUE clubs will soon be permitted to sign two international
players outside of the salary cap, with Football Federation Australia
considering a major change to the marquee structure.

This could seriously f#*k us over. Or at least give a huge competitive advantage to sides like the Melbournes, Sydney.
Should just ditch the cap and be done with it.

This was the only way to stop us to win this season ;-)
We are well managed club with no money. We get leftover players nobody else wants. We have to trust Ernie to bring out the best of the squad and off the no names signings.
they just need to change them to being called designated players and relax the rules on who can be signed as one (make it anyone can be).
The main advantage of a marquee isn't usually the player itself, but that it significantly raises the average wage of every other player being fitted under the cap. Giving clubs the ability to place any player as their designated player gives that advantage to all clubs rather than just those who can afford big name marquees - it effectively raises the salary cap, while still allowing teams to sign big name players.

"Interestingly, FFA is free to implement new structures as it sees fit as there is no Collective Bargaining Agreement in place. The previous one expired on June 30 and the FFA and players union remain locked in negotiations regarding a new CBA."
Yep, that is interesting.
Might it also benefit NZ players in that the likes of CCM, Jets might designate a Kiwi into one of those spots rather than bringing in another big name overseas star? Accept that the big guns are unlikely to use the 2nd spot to sign a de Vries type player but those others night.
That's pretty much what it is and how we've been using it anyway I thought?
Zlatan saying his next club will be a big surprise. Not a not-a-striker, he's just what we need ;)

Isn't that exactly how it works at the moment? Eugene Galekovic was a marquee as an example. All teams can make any player in their squad a marquee. I have never heard of a marquee being denied because they weren't enough of a big name.

Don't think i've heard of a case where the 'marquee' rules were actually enforced? We made McKain marquee didn't we?

Huh, interesting. I'm guessing almost every team had a player with at least 1 Australian cap anyway? For the international marquee slot, can you sign anyone you want?
Think the FFA have had a loose definition of a marquee. I'm just saying do away with the arbitrary restrictions on a marquee and allow teams just to designate any 2 players that they wish.
Yeah there is some sort of definition, and I think the FFA have to approve them. In the past McCain, Ifill, and Burns have all rumored to be marquees. We are probably quite fortunate in that half our team have international experience so most could theoretically qualify for marquee status.
Pretty sure Domey confirmed that Burns was our Aussie marquee last season.

He said he was a marquee player. A marquee player can just mean a star player and doesn't necessarily mean he was an offical marquee. If he was officially our marquee it seems strange that he wasn't marketed at such.
