How did the Nomads v FC game go

Big 3 points to selwyn today. Last week lost 6-0 to a good FC with the biggest game of the season officiated by an Otago referee who was outstanding. Today we beat parklands 4-3 the ref was a late replacement but replacement or not he was woeful. He never played advantage at any time to either team. More worrying was the lack of protection of the selwyn players. Before we get the whinging comments read the first remark. It is the officials job to ensure the game is played fairly and players safety is also his responsibility. There was an incident in second half when his assistant flagged called him over and said there had been an elbow on the selwyn player. Ref did nothing.

Ok, so you need Waimak to beat FC

If that happens and you and Nomads win then she's a big finale for the season...

True..... Nomads and Selwyn looking for a big favour from Waimak next week, Waimak did find their scoring touch today thrashing poor old Hornby 11-2. Some great goals on display incl a 35 Yard volley into the top corner. Hornby keeper kept the score down although gifted 2 goals from horror kick outs. The posts and crossbar also took a pounding atleast half a dozen times. Could have been 20 tbh.

No, just gave some vocal support. Good game, really competitive. Look forward to working with this group as they move towards the Nike Cup or whatever they have in front of them. Part of my role to get involved at this age. Had some success over the last few years.

Come to Centennial on a Saturday and I will usually be there giving support, encouragement and advice, whoever is playing.

Start of August and the grounds not bad, amazing.

Some stats around todays Men's MPL round

  • 4000th MPL goal scored
  • Bays / Coastal 5 - 4 scoreline was the first ever in 1208 fixtures - in favour of the home side and was also the most goals in a game this season
  • Nelson Suburbs goal difference is now 200 and average exactly 2 goals For per game from 273 games
  • Halswell's goal difference is now 0 also from 273 games

Milestone that may be reached before the end of this season

Nelson Suburbs need 9 points to become the first side to reach 500 points

Three clubs chasing 50 goals this season - Technical 44, Bays 43 and Suburbs 42

Interesting how one team can loose points when none of their rivals had lodged an appeal.

Must have been a great game to watch between Bays and Coastal yesterday, 9 goals in the first 70 minutes or so, with the lead switching around five times and then no goals in the final quarter. From what I have heard there were clear chances for both sides to add to their scoreline. Plenty of tweeting for Vim to keep up with.

Coastals hopes of a top three finish looked to have gone now.

no relegation drama, decent run in both cups, heap of young players, A+ Coach = good Coastal season.

Better again next year too.

2 more wins and Coastal will better their best number of wins in a season (9) and five more points will better your best points (31)  tally since your debut in the MPL in 2011.

Also likely to have your best goal tally and least goals conceded so ticks all round.

Bit mediocre if we are applauding a team that is mid table in the MPL and had a few easier 1st div teams in the cups. Nelson and Bays have improved much more than coastal

You'd hope they would check all games if that was the case. As someone else has said, maybe time for ID in the higher leagues?

It's a bit odd from Mainland Football to schedule a postponed game from Div 1 (Nomads vs Selwyn) for the week after the last round which is on 8 August. Potentially, the result of this game could have an effect on the outcome of the competition, unless FC win tis Saturday. FairPlay dictates that ALL teams know what is required of them on the day of the last round of the competition. It should be played before the last round on the 8th.

A couple of interesting spectators watching on the side lines at Garrick Park in Saturday - former age group international and ex ChCh United player Blair Scadden and former Coastal Spirit coach Mick Curry - Mick has recently finished his role with the Central Footy Federation.

Fc20 will win v Waimak so will be a none event come the 15th.

Also, I don't rate Nomads to get any more points this season. They will be without their two top goal scorers and short of defenders.

A bruising game last saturday at Avonhead Park with Sam [FC20] broken ankle [after 28 minutes] and Nomads have Shaun broken nose [after15 mins] and Ryan concussion [77 mins] non of these will be on the park again this season. Add to that Nomads have another centre back out with Ben's rib injury from the Coastal chatham cup game which had been his first game back from the same problem.

Nomads had been on top untill the time of Sam's injury, after the 35 minute stop for treatment Nomads looked lost up to half time. Fc came out the stronger with the wind at their backs in the second half, from then on dominated and should've put Nomads away.

Nomads without Shaun up front only looked like getting a goal from a set piece. Man of the Match for me was the Nomads goalie another top game from Mike Walker. Seeing as Canterbury United have been looking out of town for a goalie maybe they should give him a viewing in a higher level match.

Caught up with Blair. Teaching in the Middle East, just back for a break.

One of my real coaching highlights was assisting on the bench with the Junior All Whites at QE II when Blair and Siggy combined to beat the Aussies and qualify NZ for the Junior World Cup in Egypt 96 /97. Shark weather but a great day.

In those days they selected NZ players for NZ teams including from the Sth Island.

Not sure I agree Scottie about the man of the match. I thought the FC goalie had a better game and actually kept his team in the match. He made a couple of crucial saves especially at the start of the match when Nomads seriously dominated.

I take that back. Just discovered that our refereeing is top notch with respect to consistency, communication, courage, decisiveness, humility, fairness, empathy, knowledge of the game (not just the rules), flexibility..etc  Just go and watch a Div 1 match.

Never said it was. But stating what you think is wrong (and I'm not nessecarily disagreeing with you on some of those things), is not solutions.

So I fanz has officially finished. 3 coaches all have visas parents are after their money back parents also contacting police. Looks like another successful company for one of the members. Surprisingly nobody has answered the phone number which was posted before. Great result for selwyn and waimak. Will be interesting to see where this ends up legally. Some nervous ex owners I would imagine. Let's see if how bullshark billy comes out of this one.

can someone fill me in on the last time any senior men's football was played in/out of the West Coast?

Do any players from there play for Nelson Suburbs?

Do they have a team in the Nelson local league?

They had a handy team in the Canterbury men's qualifying league in the late 80's. Playing on the coast was an interesting and challenging experience. They had a very passionate group of local supporters. After match was brilliant as well.
