This plays a part for me, though I have websites I use that do replays as well :D

This Lightbox deal is excellent news for me. I hadn't gotten around to signing up this season yet.

We are looking at ditching Sky but aren't in a hurry, just want to make sure we get it right. Now we have 3 months to see what it's like using Lightbox to help with our decision-making. Beauty.

Is definitely the way to go. Was mentioned back in the thread, we've cut the cord in June, now been a month without Sky, and is making little difference for us. I paid for Unotelly to access overseas content as well. I'm watching F1 through a combo of BBC & Channel 9, NFL coverage through their website. And TV I watch Netflix & lightbox depending on show. Wife watches Netflix & Syfy (And some freeview), while our daughter watches Netflix, loves the huge range of shows from Tinkerbell to Avengers, Slugterra to Barbie and lots more.

It doesn't seem to geoblock from NZ on the subscribe page: http://www.beinsports.com.au/how-to-subscribe/

Just went a bit further and is geoblocked in NZ.

On top of the UCL, also has the following leagues (not sure if updated for the upcoming season): http://www.beinsports.com.au/our-sports/soccer/

Should be easy to subscribe from New Zealand to beIN Sports Connect which is the online only version of BeIn Sports Australia.

Just fool them into thinking you are in Australia with a DNS or VPN service.

Then subscribe here:

Subscribe on a monthly basis.

If you want to try it, first month is only $AU 10

Exchange rate is still quite good with the Aussie dollar ($AU 10 is $NZ 11)

After the first month, the regular subscription is $AU 16.99 or $AU 150 per annum

This is much more attractive in pricing than foxsoccer2go at $US 19.99 per month ($NZ 30.35)

If only it had A League it would tick all the boxes for me. Or actually maybe that's not so necessary since I only really watch the Phoenix and have a season ticket so it would only be away games which I could just watch at Four Kings/Bethel Woods/wherever Yellow Fever go.

Edit: OK they have 6 Nations too which is one of the other few things I'd be looking for without Sky. This actually looks like the one for me.

Ok i think I'm going to go for this but wanted to check.  I have a non-samsung TV, have an iPad and Apple TV and fibre broadband.  I am sure some combination of this should work right but the reviews for the Apple app are pretty bad.  What's the best set-up for me and is this actually going to work?  Are there any good deals I should think about?

Checked yesterday, still not confirmed for 15/16 season. Although it would be surprising for it not to happen given the ownership-sponsorship links.

I've had no problems with using an iPod Touch with an Apple TV to watch. So you should be fine with an iPad.

Haven't done yet - only got UFB on the weekend. But yes, did this whilst on Voda Cable with success (before it turned to utter crud).

I've ditched Sky TV and will watch all my football online from overseas.

This is the message I sent to Sky and posted on their Facebook:

"With the UK & European soccer seasons starting, what I want to know is, now that you have lost the UEFA Champions League (ESPN no longer have the rights), on top of you losing the English Premier League rights a couple of years ago, what are you going to do about it? I suggest that you ditch ESPN and add BeIN Sports which now has the Champions League rights for NZ & Oz (It's carried by Fox in Australia). Plus BeIN Sports has heaps of other top football as well as rugby (Six Nations etc.)
I terminated Sky TV recently because of your lack of soccer coverage and won't subscribe again until it improves."

[I used the word "soccer" so they don't get confused]

Airplay works great for me. Only thing is games are usually about a minute behind when using their apps so I'd suggest staying off social media when watching to avoid spoiler alerts

See now that is annoying!  So other option is to just connect up a cable to the laptop?

yea, it's the major downside of internet streaming. I've found that on the laptop there's still a delay, but it's only a few seconds. That'll probably differ depending on internet speeds, how much it buffers etc

Just got an email from them offering 3 months free Lightbox if you sign up in August. Hadn't done it yet as was waiting to see if there might be a last minute deal if numbers were low. Guess this will be handy as I was planning to try out the free trials for Lightbox/Netflix etc with a view to dropping Sky after the Rugby World Cup.

Come on! I just signed up yesterday :P

It's actually quite stupid. Next season (if they have it) I'm going to wait until the latest possible moment before signing up so that I can get the best deal. Which is surely not the sort of behaviour you want to encourage.

If I signed up this week I could have got 20% off (as a spark customer) as well as free lightbox for 3 months ($42 worth).

Edit: though I suppose the 20% off is only for a monthly pass - so that doesn't count. And I did watch the copa america, which was $50 otherwise. So I did get the better deal for myself in the end. But others won't be in the same boat.

Oh I will sign up the week before next time...The 20% off was 20% off the pay monthly season pass, so $16/mth instead of $20/mth, making it $192, which is cheaper than paying for a whole season upfront...I w3ill sign up early if they offer returning subsidy at $149, but not aat full price with additional content. Also had 3 people respond to me on twitter saying "It's not worth it, just stream them for free" - oh dear do they realise they are the problem.

They have stated they no longer offer the returning subsidy and it's $199 for everyone now. Pretty poor if you ask me... I'm not interested in the Copa America at all which is what they triumphantly said when I asked why the subsidy has gone...

Interesting to see TV1 news and their report on day 1. Chelsea game beautiful quality picture, then the other games stuttering, fuzzy picture. Sums it all up.

That's because they capture it at sharkty quality. The live streams give me a faaaar better quality picture than they look on the Tv1 news.

I watched the first half of the Warriors (it's all I could stand), then the Rugby and then Man U v Spurs. We have VDSL and I streamed firstly via APPLE TV, then used a HDMI Apple adaptor to connect to the TV directly and the quality between the earlier sport I watched on SKY and PLP was worlds apart. Seems like we've sacrificed quality for convience

Are you using AUTO quality setting or are you selecting the bit rate you want to run it at?

I actually think it's a legal/rights/IP issue.

Sports providers offer footage at different quality levels for different prices.

Watched United/Spurs with no trouble. Good quality etc.

Will watch the horrific Cech-inspired Arsenal capitulation tonight. One of the real advantages of PLP is being able to simply log in and watch games whenever you like. Superior to Sky in that regard.

On the downside, I still can't log into the app on my Samsung TV. I've reinstalled it. It throws an error saying it can't login at this time.

Most annoyingly it then drops all the text from the email/pwd fields so I have to re-enter from scratch one laborious character at a time. Tedious.

Did anyone have any weird speed issues with the games this morning? As I started watching #LFC game about 15 mins after it staarted, I was happy to watch live and miss the first 15 (which it seemed to let me do) but they game was then running slightly fast like it was trying to catch up a couple of minutes. Everything looked like a 1920s movie does because of a lower frame rate.

Arsenal game worked well enough for me this morning. Didn't have any buffering or freezing which I sometimes get. Just the usual bit of jerkiness when playing through the laptop connected to the TV. This is as good as it's going to be for me until either Sky get it back or an app becomes available to me.

I went to check and it's now telling me I have to many devices associated with this account, i didn't know there was a limit (there's nothing about it on their support page). I had a feeling you can't change settings on the iOS apps, just the web browsers.

The picture is fine, it's just not as good as HD from SKY I guess is my point when it's on a larger screen...

I see Watford vs. West Brom is the live TV One match this week. Who actually decides on this? Surely they could have picked a better game involving more popular teams..
