Rather he than hudson wihongi or dyer

I just don't buy that.  He is very one footed and has no long passing game (and believe me I have watched him closely).  He's got no physical presence and he's not got a lot of pace.  He is very good technically but there is a reason his career hasn't gone anywhere

Yeah Hicks lacked the physical presence but he is much much better then the young kids we have in there like Dyer

i agree with both these posts. He has talent and a bloody good left foot, but ain't running you down or adding a physical presence. I thought if anything he was more long ball than short JD and didn't get his lengths right.

There's a lot of players who are coasting around, mcGlinchey has been dreadful for over a year. Started off with a hiss and a roar at the nix and then faded to a waste of space. Doyle has not had one good game in a professional environment or for the all whites but he is too good for the ASB prem so maybe needs to try state league in Melbourne or something along those lines. Not much point of bringing Riera in when he is 31, will be the same as the Durante situation. If you have Reid and Smith at CB with Moss in goals, tuiloma at RB need to find a LB. Front 3 is pretty easy to figure out with Wood, Thomas and Rojas, or even Rojas centrally. Would then need someone with a bit of nugget in midfield to clean up the scraps, screen the back 4 etc.

Yeah that's Tuiloma. Relative to what else we've got, he's too good to be playing at fullback

I hope Hudson picks this team from our next game.. Riera is eligible in December. Should be putting his name through when we put Wynne, Musa, Roux and Smiths applications in.

I'd throw in the young lad playing for Blackpool, Henry Cameron and try hard as f**k to persuade both Ben McKendry and Michael Fitzgerald to come home.

On a different note how has Brotherton managed 7 caps when Musa and Fenton only have 3 between them?

Not sure if you're having a LOL but Smith and Reid were well known here to us back in 07/08, long before the last minute WC glory hunting allegiance switches (which I am eternally grateful for).

For all those sticking the knife into Hudson, wasn't he the coach for the U-23 Olympic team?  Before they were booted out there record in Papua New Guinea was played 4, won 4, 10 goals for, 0 against.  When it mattered, he was delivering what was required.

with ineligible players. What would the other teams record be if they had ineligible players. Whether it would made a difference or not to our performance is irrelevant because if it was the same for the opposition, it may have made a difference

a bit harsh JV, I think the consensus here is that each of the players in dispuite would have been granted clearance if NZF had actually officially requested it.

I'm still waiting for NZF to come out and say the fax machine jammed as the requests were sent but no one noticed.

The option everybody has looked past is dropping Tuiloma back to LB as under Emblen. I would love to see:

                                 Marinkovic / moss

  Roux               Smith               Reid              Tuiloma

                                     Themi

                 Weemac             James (Riera?)

      Rojas                                                  Thomas

                               Wood

Edited for obvious math problem

This is a stronger team. James and Themi give that midfield a bit of snarl, and James gives it a goal threat. Unfortunately I don't think we have the option of 2013/4 James.

Also Fenton might be better than Roux, or could be played at left back. Or Weemac could be dropped for Tuiloma on current form.

Fairly sure Themi has played DM.

Wouldn't mind Joel Stevens or Monty Patterson as the work experience guys, because I think they might add something if they are brought on. Boyd should be in the mix too.

Rojas worries me a bit. On his current form I'd be starting Kosta or Boyd actually.

Are there any box-to-box midfielders currently in contention? Only Payne sort-of and James sort-of I guess. Any more of them any where?

Rojas worries you? Best player against Myanmar - secured the pen.

Also no Themi isn't a DM nor does he looks like one.

did a good dribble a couple of times- but seemed weak in the central area...we didn't pass the ball well or create a lot of chances. And some of that has to be down to the CAM.

He seemed a bit jaded. Not sure about him as a number 10. He's performed well on the wing. I haven't seen him perform well creating in the middle of the midfield. Didn't link play that well, couldn't find his team mates.

Just thought Themi had been mentioned as a DM when he started.

Didn't the story something like a reporter called Reid who it was thought not to want to represent nz and he said that he was open to the idea but no one from nzfootball had contacted him?

Former NZF chief Graham Seatter has stated that He approached Reid back in 2006 to play for the AW's however his step father made it clear he was representing another nation.

I was able to interview Winston back in the days of "Soccer Talk" when he was still playing in Denmark... at that time, playing for the Danish youth teams was both convenient and a good development platform... he said one thing really putting him off changing to NZ was the thought of long haul travel... I contacted him a couple of times after that, and he said he'd decided to commit to Denmark... then in early 2010, Andrew Gourdie from Tv3 contacted him via Facebook, and Winston said he'd be interested in playing for NZ if someone asked him... so Gourdie gave Ricki Herbert his number and then filmed him ringing and talking to him... the next day, Winston announced he'd play for NZ, and was called up instantly for the World Cup squad... the rest is history...

so yes, NZF did know about him, as did football fans here, he'd been contacted a few times, but it was Gourdie's effort that essentially brought it back to life as an option... so basically in the space of 6 months, with a FIFA rule change helping, we gained McGlinchey, Fallon, Smith and Reid...
