Krishna out for 3 months. We have to go to the market now
2015/16 Transfer Speculation
3 months is the bloody season!
Nick Fitzgerald released from CCM. Krishna being a visa player opens up more options for an injury replacement though not sure if he will be on much.
Ryan De Vries or Micah Lea'alafa as injury replacements? Anyone seen them in the ASB Prem?
We need a Joel Griffiths. A pro with proven ability who can slot right in now and do a job for us, as we develop younger players. Burns was never an average player, just a guy whose form went up and down. Williams is not as good as Burns and isn't a long term option for us.
Appiah could be a long term option, Powell could be. Possibly an injury replacement visa player? Cunningham come back? Sarpong firing is still a real possibility, but we can't plan on it. Perhaps an actual striker? Who can also play centre back and DM? Killen then?
I think the difference between Williams and Burns is that Burns generally played as a winger whereas Williams has played more often as a striker.
Reckon Fitzgerald might be on his way over. Tony Walmsley made it sound like he's moving to another A-League club. Young-ish guy, probably keen to work under ernie. Would be a perfect fit for us up front, reckon he could do us a job.

He would fit nicely into our not a striker team, he is def not a striker

Perfect! Speedy winger, can't be worse than what we got currently

Can he play at CB?
Yep, Fitzgerald would be more than handy too.
I know it's not easy to find proven goalscorers who want to come here, especially in January, but we really need someone who will put the ball in net on a semi-regular basis now that Krishna is out for 3 months. I don't think either Williams or Fitzgerald fit the bill. Having one of them would be nice for the extra depth and experience but we really need goals. I also know Burns wasn't really a goalscorer before Ernie signed him, but he was also a better footballer than either of those guys.
Any chance we could get Tade as injury cover for 3 months? He might not have the A League experience but he is a proven goalscorer. Plus he's used to living in NZ so unlike other imports wouldn't need as long to adjust.
I'm optimistic that Powell can step up but we need more than just him. If he got injured or suspended we'd be screwed.
We need a proven goal scorer who is fit and can play now....who I have no idea. Otherwise the season is well and truly gone from now as CCM and Adelaide are scoring again.
Not a regular goal scorer but sidnei is out at Perth.
Always seemed dangerous against us.Joel Stevens is an out and out goal scorer. The thing is that we could sign a player as cover now but they may not be of much use to us by next season. Really, we only want to offer someone a short term deal. For that we are basically only looking at the ASB Premiership.

Got a contract somewhere overseas.

We signed Vuckovic in January, only until the end of the season. You could sign someone like Fitzgerald or Williams for the remainder of the season (better for them playing than twiddling their thumbs) and they can negotiate with another club if we have no interest in keeping them past this season.
Or sign both?
or neither?
May be off topic, but here is an interesting bit from the A-League website on available players:
"Sergio Van Dijk has already been a smash hit in the A-League, scoring 50 goals in 105 appearances for Brisbane and Adelaide respectively. Will be a free agent this month when his deal at Thailand club Suphanburi ends."
http://www.a-league.com.au/photo-gallery/11-transf...
I've always assumed his contract in Thailand runs until middle of this year.
OK so he is not a visa-free player, and is likely to be expensive. But who knows.
I would compare him at his current age and speed (and experience) to someone like Smeltz rather than Henrique.
Would tick a "metric" box with FFA for us.
He's off contract as Thai season runs from Feb to whenever they get round to finishing (this year Dec). He's not in Supanburi's plans for next season, despite being the club's top scorer, netting 14 times for them (8th-best in League). A shame he's an import, & we'd need to sack one of the current bunch or naturalise Riera to fit him in (does Roy's injury open a door here?). On the plus side, he'd qualify as Asian, enabling us to have 3+1 on the pitch
According to Fox Sports we are keen on newly made free agent James Troisi. Also closely linked to Adelaide.
David Davutovic says we are "keen as mustard" to sign Troisi
Not a striker, which is what we need, but there's a signing that could actually be Burns 2.0.
Definitely a better option than Williams or Fitzgerald IMO
Troisi would be a good get - but why would he come here?
Agreed with all above - yes, Troisi is a good player (still) and a recent Socceroo, a bit slow now but very skilful.
Many clubs would give him a decent new deal, without him having to cross the Tasman?

Yup... here's hoping though!
Based on our losses from last year money shouldn't be too much of an issue.
Seems fairly certain its Adelaide.
We wouldn't have a hope of getting Troisi. As for Williams and Fitzgerald it's a bit like 2B's cold and flu comparison. Fitzgerald has quick feet but is basically a second rate WeeMac and is absolutely honking in front of goal; Williams is speedy but also has an amazing flair for putting the ball wide when the goal is gaping. On balance I think Williams would be the lesser of two evils.
Troisi is from Adelaide, IIRC. Troisi would have to be offered the marquee role for sure but Adelaide don't have that spot open. Troisi is pure class.

... maybe Ross Aloisi could put a good word in.....
"Go and play a season for the Phoenix, son. It will make a man out of you".
He might see how Ernie resurrected Burns's career and think he could do the same....
...plus hasn't he been playing in the Middle East? Maybe he's sick of warm climates!
Yeah, that's pretty much the onlly thing we've got going for us. You get to choose between Amor and Merick.
We could point out to him the cases or Vukovic, Reddy & Gameiro. i.e. come to the Nix for the last part of the season, put in some good performances, impress one of the other teams, and score a big contract for next season. Rather than trying to squeeze yourself under the cap of already full squads/caps for the rest of this season.
Not good for us long term, but would certainly help us for this one, and who knows, he might like it and want to stay?
From ESPN Transfer Blog:
21.03 GMT: News out of Australia up next. Socceroos attacking midfielderJames Troisi has terminated his contract with Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad due to unpaid wages and a quartet of A-League sides will reportedly fight for his services.
Troisi, 27, has attracted Melbourne City, Wellington Phoenix, Adelaide United and his former side Melbourne Victory since leaving the club he joined over the summer.
"I want to make a decision in the next week or so, ideally as soon as possible," Troisi said, "but I won't rush into a decision for the sake of it... I'll weigh my options up in the next week or so."

Troisi also said:
"I've had contact from Ernie Merrick [Phoenix coach] and Greg Griffin [Adelaide chairman], and there's still interest overseas."
I think I recall at least one other quality player joining the Nix due to Ernie fronting up the recruitment campaign...
Troisi would be fantastic, one of the biggest signings we've had. Can't see us getting him, but how on earth can Victory be bidding too with the players they already have surely they can't squeeze him under the cap.
Gutted Andy Keogh is signing with Perth because he would have been decent for the last few months.
If we look to the ASB Premiership surely the only three options are Micah Lea'alafa, Ryan de Vries or Ben Harris.
If we were to somehow get Troisi do we think it'll be a deal beyond the end of the season? Or just a short term?
