People tend to drift into Courtenay Place after the games at stadium. So if you are wanting to be close to the nightlife (i.e. about 50 metres around the corner that is) in Courtenay Place then Cambridge Hotel is quite good.

Hi there,
If he is your friend he can sit with you at games preferably
outside the yellow zone.
The dungeon. My door is always open cousin.
Uncle Steve, will the Melbournians need to bring there own blankets or will Blanketman share LOL?
Where to Stay in Wellington?
Hey all,
A Melbourne fan here. Have Just booked my flight to Wellington
for the opening round.
having never been to NZ before was wondering if anyone can
give me some tips on where to stay in wellington.
Looking for a budget hotel type accomodation (preferabley not
hostel). there'll be 3 or 4 in my crew but i know of at least
another few dozen melbourne fans that are definitely coming. Would
prefer to be situated near the bars/nightlife etc!
Will be arriving on the thursday before the game to check out
the city, and leaving on the monday.
Looking forward to it!!
Cheers for any help!

being local I've not stayed in hotels in wellington, so this site
might be more helpful -

most entertainment is within walking distance of the city centre, so any hotel / motel that is in or close to the CBD should be okay.
Below $100 will probably be backpackers type accomodation - or if there's a group of you, a motel might be cheaper .... (altho' the motels tend to be in the suburbs)

Abel Tasman is a good one. One of the Quests would be OK too. All close to the action. Do a google search for them. I'd go Abel Tasman if it was me. Here's the link http://www.abeltasmanhotel.co.nz/
Why would you need a room - just stay up all night!
After we've thrashed their precious Victory they'll want somewhere
to hide!!
Top notch theres the Intercontinental or Duxton, cheaper but still
very nice theres the Novotel, 2 Mercure Hotels and the James Cook
Grand Chancellor as other options. There are the Quest
apartments which are in several locations throughout the
city. You can walk right across the main city area of Welli
in about half an hour and the Cambridge would be one of the
furthest from the ground but by far the best position after larging
it in Courtney Place after match.....drowning your sorrows!!
A good one is the Museum Hotel which has great harbour views
and is in a primo spot. Probably the cheapest hotel in town
and positioned bang in between the Ring of Fire (Stadium) and the
party district is the Ibis Hotel.
Let us know any questions about our great city and we'll
ensure you have a fantastic weekend - apart from the result....GO
THE 'NIX!!!!
Wgtn has anything from cheap backpackers 5 mins walk to Stadium to
$1500.00 a night 10 minutes walk away.
there is one in cuba st for for about $80-90 a NIGHT BUT I FORGOT
THE NAME, its quite nice istayed there once. If anyone knows its
the top end next to alastair's music shop. If anyone knows what
hotel it is tell us
holy sh*t i just saw sweedens 2nd goal on greek tv, a good 40 metre out blast.....pure class

The Comfort Hotel, its turning into part of The Wellingtonian
Apartments which are Rex Nicholls' development (partner of the
mayor so no problems with consents etc)
Go the cambridge hotel man...close to town and you can pick up a
milf or 2
Ibis, Museum and Just Hotels all run weekend specials. Owners
of Just Hotel back Team Wellington FC through Exodus
Gym at present, but I would
suspect a change may occur soon.
