Proposed joint venture between Three Kings United and Onehunga Sports Football clubs with the creation of Auckland United Football Club.
The Boards of both clubs have spent the past few months exploring the merits of a strategic alliance to form a new club to deliver in the first instance a talent pathway that adheres to New Zealand Football’s licensing requirements, from 9th grade through to the senior Premiers, both men and women. The proposal will create a high quality football environment that is sustainable, benefits a wider geographical area and will take effect from 1 January 2020 with the establishment of the Talent pathway for both boys and girls, supported by high quality coaching under the new Club’s name.
The Wellington Phoenix Soccer School will operate as the Auckland United Football Academy in the new structure.
For the 2020 season those 5-8 year olds and senior social players will be largely unaffected by this change and will continue to be registered for their respective community Club. The Boards in recommending a strategic alliance will ensure that their community football programmes will remain an important focus and more details will be available at the respective member’s evening.
An information evening with members will be held by both Clubs ahead of a Special General Meeting
Three Kings United will be holding a members’ information evening on Wednesday 13th November 2019 at 7pm at the club rooms at Keith Hay Park.
Onehunga Sports will be holding a members’ information evening on Tuesday 12th November 2019 at 7pm at the lounge at Waikaraka Park.
Both Clubs will be putting the proposal to a member vote at a Special General Meeting to be held at 7pm on Monday 18th November 2019 at their respective clubrooms.
By Monday 4th November there will be an informational website available at www.aucklandunited.org.nz that will explain more around the reasons behind this proposal, along with outlining how football will look for you in 2020.
