I don't believe this is the case guys. This year has been a really tough year for Bevan. Even without covid it takes time for international strikers to adjust to the PSL. The culture shock is alot to adjust to (even for South Africans) and he is on his 3rd coach in his first season. Because of Covid he has really missed out on alot of football to win his place in the 1st team. At 23 yrs he would have been eligible to play in the Reserve League (Multichoice Diski Challenge) every week to get used to the style of play, hard fields, speed of play and the refs lol. Players like Lassina Traore (Ajax Amsterdam) and Lyle Foster (Vitoria Guimaraes) went from the Reserve League straight to Europe. But it's suspended due to covid. The customary "Monday Game" that PSL teams arrange for bench players who are not eligible for the RLeague is forbidden. HUGE opportunities lost for players to impress the boss. I haven't heard anything but he could be suffering from injuries. For inactive players training this year is an injury trap. He went from making the bench to getting 10 minutes (winning a penalty) to dropping off the face of the earth. Makes no sense unless injury. Also the owner of the team is a former player agent. He would want his player getting into the NZ Olympic Team. Even though he can't tell the coach who to play, he will tell the coach who to play lol:)
This season is not the time to judge but he will have to work hard because his coach and assistant coach were accomplished strikers in their day. I think he will fine.

Thanks......although I need to correct myself on the above write up LOL Firstly, The PSL has arranged a quick Diski Challenge Reserve league tournament. It started this weekend...TS Galaxy 3 - 4 Cape Town City No Meyer Bevan But there is probably a good reason for this but a little complicated. Technically the Reserve League is u23 but all DSTV Premiership teams have committed to playing only u21 aged players. Sorry Myer. U21 leagues according to FIFA is amateur but because these players are professional the legal department says it's an u23 league. So Myer is in real bad shape this season. The 1st Team is sliding backwards and is in real danger again.
Not in match day squad, as Galaxy (8th), lose 0-1 to Sundowns (1st). Sundowns 4 points, ahead of De Jong's AmaZulu (2nd) with a game in hand. Bevan last in a match day squad in January.
Not in match day squad, as TS Galaxy (9th) lose 3-0 at Golden Arrows (3rd). Mathematically TS Galaxy now safe from relegation, so wonder if Bevan will get some minutes.
Though understand finishing in top 8 spots, has some value in the PSL?
Qualifying for the Top 8 Competition is huge deal in SA. A lot of DSTV Premiership coaches KPI's are linked to making it in the Top 8. Get in or you fired. Simple The phrase "Nothing to play for" does not apply in the DSTV Premiership. It makes for great tv. The Competition kicks off the new season and for players its 3/4 games to a trophy. Traditionally players get 50% of the winnings. It's not the EPL but a player could make about NZD 10 000 to 15000 bonus.
Yes his being released. It's been a very tough year for Myer Bevan indeed. I think he can probably rightly say he wasn't given a real chance at Galaxy. He never started a game for them even though they really struggled with goals. It is very difficult for strikers to adapt to the SA game. Adapting is very hard. I don't think he should look at this year as a failure but as a learning curve to future success. Covid really made things twice as hard. One also has to consider that... The team has an average age of about 23/24. So it was very young. The coach and assistant coach were accomplished strikers in their day. Both played in Europe. What should Bevan do next? I think he should trial other teams in the DSTV Premiership or even consider going down to the First Division if there are no offers in Cyprus, Finland or Azerbaijan. There are a few 1st Division clubs in Cape Town. Good Luck!

New Zealander Myer [Bevan] was nicknamed the 'new Brockie' by club president Tim Sukazi during the squad unveiling in Siyabuswa, Mpumalanga.
“Well, Brockie went to Sundowns and he scored one goal or two, I don't know,” adds Da Gama. “It's all part of whether a certain player fits into a certain team. Myer could go to SuperSport [United] and score a lot of goals you know. But unfortunately it couldn't happen in his first season with TS Galaxy.”
Yeah so unsurprising news there. If the team are making culls and you’re an overseas striker who has played a mere 40 minutes of PSL action all season and hasn’t even featured in a matchday squad since February then you’re obviously going to be one of the first names mentions.
Unfortunately as the boss kinda harshly stated there, Bevan was more Sundowns Brockie than SuperSport Brockie in the end. Not only in the lack of goals but especially in the lack of opportunities. Must be so disheartening. Anyway he’s free now. Would imagine it’s not too long before Andre De Jong joins him as a free agent given he features about as much for AmaZulu these days as Bevan was doing for Galaxy.

No mate you've misunderstood the coaches statement about Bevan. He wasn't harsh, he was almost apologetic. It needs some context...
da Gama is saying that Bevan wasn't suited for TS Galaxy style of play. Brockie was successful at Supersport because they play with the target man and they had/have great wingers to supply him with the cross. When Mamelodi Sundowns come along for Brockie everybody in SA told him not to go because Sundowns do not play with a target man. Their approach is very patient buildups from the back with quick 1 touch football through the middle. The last few years they played without a strikers like Man City this year. They usually play a target man in the Champions League in Africa because the fields are tough to play on. Also the target man they need/want is a very technical player who is good in the air and on the ground. Brockie strength is not really the ground game. That's why he struggled like everybody in SA told him he would. But then again when Sundowns offers to double your salary....
That is why da Gama is saying "Myer could go to Supersport and score a lot of goals". Its all about signing for the right team to suit your style.

I'm surprised Dyer has been the only Kiwi over there thus far, and in saying that he's done pretty well for himself at that. Definitely a pathway that a few more Kiwi's will walk over the coming years as the league grows over there.
I know Ollie Bassett (former TeeDubs & Waitakere player in the handy) was with Pacific FC last season, but I think he's since been released.

Canadian citizenship has to have helped with that one. Good move for him though, and I hope he goes well over there.
Still think that this route will be a good road to travel for Kiwis looking to pick up pro contracts over the course of the next couple of years as well. Similar in level to the USL just across the border.
On the bench in Alberta as Cavalry make a fast start, currently 2-0 up over Edmonton heading into H/T.
Subbed on at HT for one of the goal scorers. Cavalry scored a 3rd late on at 88 mins, for a 3-0 win, taking them up to 3rd - but early days in the CPL.
