Very honest of the player and the club to communicate this. All the best to them both. Grace certainly has been tireless and has won an amazing amount of ball in the midfield.

Poor girl. Tough gig being locked down in a stressful environment with no balance to life.
Even harder having it splashed all over the sports headlines!

Very mature open approach from the club and player (brave also), re a tough topic. Hopefully helps others to open up in need, and that Grace is playing again soon.

My new hero, having seen so many people affected, together, and not really acknowledging things. Tim Payne and Ollie Sail acting out with golf carts.
During the last Delta outbreak over here I was neurotically opening and adjusting windows in the week or two before I could get vaccinated, like it gave me some protection an control!
This has been a long time of situations which are not normal for us and there have been plenty of times when it’s been more than okay not to be okay.
Thanks to the Phoenix women for representing the club in all the best ways!

Mental health issues effect many people - a higher percentage than many realise; regardless of if you are a pro sports player or not, and regardless of Covid. So there are bound to be some players who need a mental health break at times in such a large group of people.

I'm glad the club (and fans it seems) have a sensible and compassionate approach to this, and that times have changed enough that at least some people aren't feeling the need to hide how they are feeling as they might of done in years gone by.

Didn't Tratt have issues too? The club have a bit of history in supporting their players in this respect and it is something to be quite proud of. I hope to see her back on the field soon, She has great ability as a player that I would like to see fulfilled. Sooner or later, when she is ready of course.

Just one change for the Phoenix despite the tight turnaround. Isabel Gomes comes in for Grace Wisnewski. Mackenzie Barry was supposedly a “50-50” yesterday given she’s only just come back from injury but retains her starting spot.

Blimey how much bad luck can this team endure? What a jammy goal after we were dominating. Not great from Alfeld though.

ugh, after a really good start we concede from a very saveable cross. Just poor technique from Alfield.

Alfeld has done incredibly well this season considering her defence is made up of young girls freshly out of school. Can’t fault her for a mistake, she’s only human…

agreed, but she is one of the more experienced players in the squad, the captain and I'd like to think she would be more consistent - despite the other defensive issues around her - having said that Barry and Taylor have been immense.

Disagree they have been poor compared to last week. Too many loose clearances

seconds as in get the second ball, if/when you lose it the first time. Lewis has to yell it a lot as we lose the balll on our own pass waaay too often.

Whinam was ineffective, I'd probably put that down to fatigue from the last few games. Jale probably could have used a few more minutes given the wind and the potential for more corners. The most bizarre sub was taking off Kramer who I thought was one of our best.

Edit: I take it back that Kramer was the most bizarre sub for us so far.

Please tell me this is a joke? Kramer is literally one of the worst players I have ever seen! Cannot complete a single pass with accuracy and just runs it out almost every time. Unless you are watching a different football game with a different Kramer I have no idea where you are coming from

I'll have to say the the Nix women have gone from eye-wateringly painful to watch, to a decently entertaining team. Have been enjoying the last few games despite the scorelines. Gemma Lewis deserves a lot of credit for that.

Whinham was ineffective after 30 and is getting found out physically a bit. Kramer was great and can’t see why she was subbed?

Actually thought that was one of the better 90min performances we have had. Alot of the subs people are complaining about, is more about managing players workload on a short turn after the last game. with such a thin squad meant a lot of players out of natural position in that last 15min. Thought we did really well considering. like the look of young Lancaster even though she was playing out of position.

Another battling performance, lots of pressure on the Victory created several chances. Best players tonight in my opinion were Kramer and Gomez. Some inaccurate passing out from defence was the biggest thing to work on.

Are you saying Tim Payne and Ollie Sail and their golf cart incident was due to mental health issues?

I’m not saying that this is an excuse, but it wasn’t Freddy Flintoff in Ibiza or whatever- the context is the uncertainty and frustration amid the extraordinary measures around the season.

I’m sure it has affected all of us in different ways and it’s good to take a step back and say- yes, as well as all the normal and difficult things we deal with our lives we’ve been collectively living through something that maybe is going to need us to take some time or give extra care or support to each other.
And tbh proud of the work the club has done.

And a bit off topic sorry.

Unlucky game. Surely it’s only a matter of time with the way they are playing before luck goes their way and they maul a team?

Not sure Knott is the answer up front. Wonder if she’d be more effective elsewhere?

She sure works hard though, and sounds like there aren't options. I think she is meant to be a midfielder.

What was most encouraging about the game was the way they played in the second half and the way they finished.  In several games, they were over-run late in the second half, admittedly by teams who were behind and pressing for a result.  But here, they were behind, and showed lots of energy, good ball possession and created several efforts on goal in that second half.  If they can do that when they are ahead, rather than when they are behind, that bodes well for the future.

I also thought the subs added something and fitted in well.  In previous games, the subs don't seem to have added much, and we lost what the starting players were giving.  This time the subs came on and fitted right in and the team kept playing and pressing well.
