Lots of crowd trouble...at least the final between Ghana and Ivory Coast should be decent.

They need to have more of them though because Africans have shorter life spans.

Cameroon basically came from nowhere to win it all...they weren't expected to do well. Burkina Faso were generally seen as the best team there (they lost on penalties in the semi vs Egypt) and Senegal looked good before losing to Cameroon on pens as well. Overall I understand that the standard of play wasn't that great...be interesting to see how Cameroon do in the Confeds Cup.

1-0 being the flavour of AFCON so far, 9 of the 12 games so far have finished by that scoreline. There have only been 12 goals in the 12 games, so I suppose haven’t missed much by it not being broadcast in NZ.

That ref of the Mali v Tunisia game was clearly on the take.

Has to be the most comical series of events to conclude a match ever. 🤯

They have come out today saying that he had heatstroke. I wonder if that will stop any investigation into him...

FYI - The Gambia go through from their pool. Beat Tunisia 1-0 yesterday, to finish with 2 W & 1 D. Same as Mali who finished pool winners on GD.

Gambia to play in their Round of 16 game.

Our old mates The Gambia beat Guinea 1-0 to make Quarters at ACON.

Looks like they play winner of clash between host nation Cameroon and Comoros. Read that something like 20 of 22 man Comoros squad were born in France.

Be some story if Comoros won. Islands of less than a million population, but you can add diaspora to that, against the hosts, one of the biggest teams in Africa. If that wasn’t tough enough, they’ve had to play with 10 men since the 10th minute. If you’re still not thinking it’s that bad, they’ve been forced to play one of their defenders in goal for the whole match, because all three goalkeepers are unavailable. That is despite their first choice keeper testing negative for Covid the previous night, though CAF conveniently changed the rules that same night so you have to wait five days after testing negative to be able to play.

Despite all that, seems they put up a good fight only losing 2-1.

At least six people have died in a stampede outside the stadium hosting the Africa Cup of Nations game between Cameroon and Comoros.

Naseri Paul Biya, governor of the central region of Cameroon, said there could be more casualties and Sky Sports News reporter Usher Komugisha, who was at the Olembe Stadium, has reported seven deaths.

The stampede happened as crowds struggled to get access to the stadium in the Cameroon capital of Yaounde to watch the host country play Comoros in a last-16 knockout game.

Officials at the nearby Messassi hospital said they had received at least 40 injured people from the stampede.

"Some of the injured are in desperate condition," said Olinga Prudence, a nurse. "We will have to evacuate them to a specialized hospital."

Officials said around 50,000 people had tried to attend the match. The stadium has a capacity of 60,000 but it was not meant to be more than 80 per cent full for the game due to restrictions on the size of the crowd because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Cameroon won the game 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals.

Missed the first 45min but watched the rest and Senegal looked the better side.
Penalties are not a good way to end these tournaments.I hate seeing teams lose like that

Yes not exactly the right thread, but I see there was plenty of drama in the CAF World Cup qualifying playoffs (2 legged).

High tension as Nigeria, Egypt and Algeria miss out.

Something to remember if unfortunately the Costa Rica game doesn't go our way. Plenty of other countries, with their own heartache of not being in Qatar. How are Italian football fans feeling right now!
