Alfied 1.75m/5' 7'' (27y)
Edwards 1.67m/5'5'' (19y)
Candy 1.74m/5'7'' (21y)

Western United's keeper, american H Bewall is 1.8m/5'10''
Victory's keeper C Dumont is 1.85m/6'+ a little bit
Adelaide A Grove is 1.78/5'10''
Sydney J mathyssen-Whymann is 1.67m/5'5''

so we are clearly at the shorter end of the scale.
+ H Handcuff at the Roar is 6'3" so probably the tallest at about 1.9m.

To sum up.
I think Candy deserves a go.
Edwards has now had her chance and a good run of games.

Put Zoe in goal. She's not getting much of a run on the field at the moment.

This is what happens when you appoint a coach with no track record of success

Average performances, playing people out of position, and no improvement shown over four weeks.

Will they have the guts to make a change though?

Put Greenie in charge ?. The wee Nix have now finished there season. He just got his new coaching licence, he'd be raring to go?
Worked well for Kisnorbo coaching the womens team at Mel City.
I think he would be a risk. I've seen his coaching style and it's very combative, shouty and demanding. He's a better coach than Lawrence any day of the week but that style can really backfire when it comes to womens football, for whatever reason they don't seem to take as much shark as the men.

Too much being made of Bri Edwards height here, as if its the reason for poor performance.

Respectfully I just don't think she is a good enough keeper to play this level, an okay shot-stopper but just far too passive in aerial situations, positions herself poorly, not adept to playing out from the back.

Must be very frustrating for Candy not getting a go - especially because once Alfeld is back, she has no hope of playing.

a lack of confidence with the high ball can easily be attributed to a lack of height, maybe she's not confident to come for them as she struggles to get above attackers so prefers to stand back and let them shoot?

I think 99% would agree its atrocious to watch. Don't worry about formations or tactics, these players lack any competent ability to control, pass and move.

Personally I don't blame the players despite at times the body language being very poor. The players have been chosen/signed and exposed publicly for us to see live and on TV and have been hung out to dry for criticism. It's not fair on them. I feel we need to protect these players now after 4 games as its only going to get worse for them.

The club needs to act for the well being of the players.

There needs to be some real accountability here. Who appointed the coaches or so called coaches?? Who recruited/signed the players and what process was undertaken?? what is being done to protect the players moving forward??

I hope it improves but signs are not great.

Maybe because this team is a bit of a joint venture between Welly Nix and NZF there have been some trade offs and compromises. They seem a bit caught between young player development and actually selecting the best players / coaches out there.
The coaches are all a big part of the NZF scene, does that mean they have skewed bias / favouritism towards NZF age grade players or FFDP players. I'm not sure.
The bulk of this team showed last year that they can be competitive. So I guess the big questions is why have they gone backwards. And are they going to be the easy beats all season.
Still early days and a chance to turn it around. A home game this weekend will help. The return of a fully fit Wisnewski and Taylor will also be a help.

Yes I think NZF being a part owner/investor, likely played a part in who was recruited. NZF would likely not be adverse to a young Kiwi getting a spot ahead of Katie Bowen for example, knowing that Bowen was likely to be picked by another ALW side.

NZF will be keen to get any many young Kiwi players in pro enivronments as possible, especially heading into next year. Whinham came from nowhere to shine last season, and put herself in the Ferns frame, could some other youngster do it this term? Not so far.

NZF's involvement is only for the first 2 seasons? If so and they drop out next season, be interesting to see if the coaching staff change, and/or the squad has a less youthful/player development look.

NZF are paying the coaching staff salaries ain't they? So likely had a big influence in who the coaches are.

If that's the case it sounds like NZF are stitching up the Phoenix with both players and coaches! Not a good look for Phoenix, they want to sort that out quickly. Although i guess they can take some of the blame for allowing this to happen. Will damage the brand pretty quick. But sounds like a right mess, good luck to all involved.

Some over reaction here
There are 14 games left - the length of the entire last season.
Young players Whinham, Taylor, McMeeken, Prichard etc were exposed to the the pro game and it obviously took its toll on them they then backed it up with a World Cup and some also in Ferns games and didn’t really get a break and are probably a bit broken. Managed correctly they will bounce back and hopefully we get results in the 3/4 of the season left.

To be fair without NZF sharing the costs, a Nix ALW team may not have happened. Especially with the owners coming off 3 Covid affected seasons, bleeding cash. Then when the team was launched last season, from memory the club really struggled to find any major sponsor for the new team.

So if the side only exists because it is a JV with NZF, who therefore have some say in player/coach matters - so be it.

Luckily for this season is only one more home game, that is a standalone fixture for the ALW side? Which if their current abysmal form continues will see 99% of the yellow seats empty.

Every other home game, the ROF hosting costs are shared with the men's team.

Ive been quite critical of the ladies team, but i think you are being a bit harsh there.
I think the midfield group shows plenty of talent. Barry has done well.
The keeper isnt good enough, and Taylor has been woeful. Fix those two problems and things should improve.

Showtime Nixie

Anyone know when Alfeld, Taylor and Wisnewski are due back? Three of the best players out in any team is hard to cover for.
