Used by spectators and commentators of most NZ sports, including football.
Meaning "get stuck in, in a very physically aggressive way"
Martin Devlin has popularized this phrase a lot on the radio.
"joemcgrath" (verb). To con your way into employment as a national team coach in spite of actually having no relevant experience and/or coaching ability. As in, "Frankly, I reckon Hudson joemcgrathed his way into the job".
"kendugdale" (verb). To be selected for a national side because someone is knobbing your mother. As in, "Surely Dyer has kendugdaled his way into the squad".

Dusting off this thread from six years ago because I’m working on an updated version of my football glossary book and would like to include some more NZ football terminology.
I’ve had the following terms suggested to me. Do people recognise them and are they commonly used to talk about football in New Zealand?
‘kiwi’ - code word used to instruct a team-mate to dummy the ball (think this might go back a few years)
‘peaheart’ - cowardly player
‘seagulling’ - goal hanging
