Last time players were away with the Ferns they came back reinvigorated, so hope that happens this time too.

I do think its a shame it will be at Albany. If only Kiwitea street was slightly larger, would be great to see that sold out instead

From the players that we currently have this would be form-based my starting XI. I don't care if someone is a Football Fern, you should still have to earn your spot and be effective. I wish that our top teams picked on form and actually created some genuine hunger and healthy competition within their squads... enough of this favoritism or waiting until to the 60th minute to make a sub. If someone is having an off game, get them off the park. This is professional football. In a 4-3-3:
Edwards
Cicco (although understand she may be away this weekend)
Barry
Van Der Meer
Foster
Gomez
Knott
Hassett
Robertson
Clegg
Lancaster - bolter ... what have we got to lose in striker? either this or put Robertson or Clegg up top to run on to through balls from Hassett and the rest. We are not an aerial team, so let's stop with the crosses in the air. Let's create better chances by working it into the area through the gaps / in between lines / on the pitch...
____________
Bench / Wider Squad
Walker - mid and defensive cover
Vosper - defensive cover
Wisneski - mid cover
Pritchard - final 15-20mins of games (or earlier if top three need replacing)
Candy - Keeper Cover
Satchell - final 15-20mins of games if in squad
Taylor - defensive cover
Mcmeeken - defensive cover

Currently out
Winham - do not play until she has is FULLY ready and when she is please give her minutes from the bench to give her hunger rather than the pressure.
Rolston - do not play until she is FULLY fit / pain free please...
Alfield - Injured

What would your (form) starting XI be?

“Betsy broken nose
-Gomez is out with an injury
- Wisnewski is all good for tomorrow after withdrawing from the Ferns squad”

Surely they can play Betsy and Gomez?
Nats been picking Rolsten with a crook back and Taylor with an injured ankle for most of the season so why change now?

Even though Betsy played heaps in the Ferns games, I bet she will be pushing hard to play against Sydney.

Edwards not dealing with the high balls. Nothing new there. I'd much prefer Knott where Taylor is.

Shape not right for me.
Bring Knott back, bring Whinham into the midfield.
We are pretty toothless at the pointy end.
Barry looks a real good player.
The difference between the two keepers with high balls is marked.

Whinham on for Knott. Rolston for Pritchard.

But all in all. Pretty good showing in that first half, especially compared to early season form. Sydney are a good outfit, best defensive team in the league right now. Fosters set piece and Cleggs crosses have looked dangerous.

45 good minutes completely thrown away because again we can't defend corners.

I thought the coaches were gonna "nip that in the bud" like three months ago?

Both teams gave it a fair crack first half to be fair..one of our better 45s I thought. Second half same old rubbish, we run out of steam and our subs offer little to nothing.

People saying Barry looks a good player? she the type of player that wins player of the year for your sunday league team every season - committed - roles sleeves/shorts up - lunging 24/7 but seems to stop a lot - happy to do the dirty work  an get a cut or two and tells the physio to do one. BUT can't pass 5 yards and you shake every time they shapes up for one.

Barry is miles off international level. Clegg all hype but has potential - in fairness i think she would prefer to be under less pressure and learn her trade more - issue i have is does she have the right mentors around her? are her coaches ones to teach her correct runs and movements? what to do in certain moments? Coach education for our better players is a huge worry in the country.

Thought the two Aussie girls for us at the back played really well. Robertson got us up the park well and looked of some threat. Thought Knott did okaaaaay.

First half gives me some hope for next week. My thoughts anyway.

Satchell nearly made a difference. Failed to pull it back though.

Are Pritchard and Rennie the same person? I've never seen them in the same room at the same time.

Rennie is faster but has less ball skill than Pritchard who has limited ball skill

That was a better performance than I was expecting. Edwards absolutely massive in goal. Strong shift from Wisniewski in midfield. There were some Sydney fans behind me who seemed very disappointed that their girls weren't going through us for a shortcut. The brief legitimate ecstasy at our disallowed goal was deafening.

Littlest Hooligan was disappointed that the doughnut stand wasn't there.

Disappointed that Lancaster seems to have slipped down the ratings in midfield as provided a genuine left-sided attacking option. Whinham, Rolston, Taylor (c/back) instead? Asking a lot of Foster from left back to get forward and deliver from that side.

I felt Edwards kept us in the game well with her acrobatic saves. Non existent marking and ball watching at corners caused more problems than Edwards punched balls. Satchell had her best moment of the last 12 months with that run in the second half. Cicco played well as did the rest of the defence in terms of stopping goals. But the whole teams passing radar was rubbish today. When we won possession we often just gave it straight back again. Mind you they were pretty guilty of lots of wayward passing too. I’m concerned that our fitness doesn’t seem that high and we also seem to have lots of injuries- surely not from being overplayed, as it’s not even a game per week. Alfeld, Gomez injured still and Wisnewski and Taylor wearing thigh strapping. Both of them only looked 75% fit today. We have missed Whinham, and seems like Rolston is fitter/less injured at the moment and she had some nice ball control in tight spaces, but no support.
I don’t understand why we moved away from playing long balls to get the ball away from our defence. It worked well against Canberra and also Brisbane, so why stop doing what was working for us and helped us score goals. During the game we also need to learn and adapt to what is happening. A big strength of their keeper is coming out and catching crosses- she’s very confident to come mush further than other keepers, but we kept serving it up to her on a plate? Read the game and adjust your crossing direction, and why doesn’t one of the 3 coaches say this during the game? Or are they just enjoying the spectacle instead of looking at what they see is working well and what changes we need to make. Seemed like we were going through the motions a bit with little urgency to get a goal back or win the game. Just because they beat you last game doesn’t mean to say they will beat you today. To change to 3 at the back when Vosper came on in the 80th or 83rd minute is too late to allow players to get up to speed of the game and try and get a goal back. Should be earlier than that if we are trying to get points. Seemed like a 0-1 they were happy with as it wasn’t 0-5 or 0-3 like last season. Robertsons chances, and the Clegg cross in first half just past Knott and  Satchells run to the byline showed that we created about 5 decent chances to score. Only needed one of those to get a point. Yea they should have scored more, But they didn’t and we didn’t push hard enough to get a point when it was within our capabilities today. What a boost that would have given us too. Hopefully Hassett, Alfeld, Whinham and Gomez are ready to start next week. And we find our passing gps.

Agree with the above posts.
Lancaster is a great sub option always provides impact and on the passing.
I think we need to be more proactive. Alot of our players are very flat footed at times reaction wise. When moving forward once they get the pass away, its like that's job done, needs to be more urgency to move into space to support the ball carrier.
Competitive today though. Better than early season.
Think Journo's etc need to lay off Clegg. She didn't have a great game today and you wonder if the media pressure is a factor. She still has a long way to go in her development yet.
Foster and Cicco did well against strong wingers in Vine and Ibini.
Would like to see Rolston get a run at #9 if she is ready after her injuries.
Whinham in for Knott. (But Knott is captain?)
Taylor at DM was interesting. But pretty versatile if she can slip into CB sometimes and allow our FB's to roam forward.
Still a loss is a loss, and we have been in wooden spoon position all season. Not good enough for this group.

I thought Edwards had her best game yet. Pulled off a couple of outstanding saves. Tried to command her area and was giving the defence a rev up. Their goal was a stupid one but aside from that.

Anyone know what the actual attendance was please?

Edwards can save shots.we know that. She's good at it.
She is appalling at dealing with high balls.so many examples in that game.
The Sydney keeper showed how to do it. Until Edwards can do something similar to that, she simply isn't up to it and we should look for replacement.

No comments on the emergency goalkeeper sitting on the bench.  Normally there is a story as to timing of injury and time available to fly a replacement who has not travelled as opposed to quickly picking someone local, available, and willing.   I thought Corina had retired at beginning of last season, or at least was not playing at top level with Eastern Suburbs.  I thought it was interesting that did not fly next goalkeeper up from the academy or choose starting keeper from any of the 8 NRFL sides, or as some cynics would say, put Charlotte Lancaster in the sub keeper shirt again.

And Gomez. She played almost all games last season. We miss the bite from her and Talitha Krammer’s tackles and defence
