Like with a lot of A league players you roll the dice. Who knew Fornaroli or Berisha would boss the league? While players with better pedigree and seeming bankers, find it difficult to get going. He probably looked at her pace and technical ability and thought she was a reasonable shout?
Only caught the second half. But we didn't really look like scoring. Teams have figured us out. We are to easy to disrupt. There is no connect between def line and attacking line. Can't blame our strikers they are not getting any quality ball. Midfield are running there arses off but not making any impact. It's all too tight. Players look frustrated and making bad decisions. Not good.
Well yes, but they still weren't great, it was a poor game altogether and a better side would have run away with it and created even more chances. Neither looked top-six worthy
GK - had a better game (despite unusual attempt to save 2nd goal) but a genuine liability week to week.
Fullbacks - terrible not up to pro standard.
CBs - Barry is a battler but doing ok. Lake is class definite MVP, quality player.
CMs - captain works hard but bullied last night, Whinham put herself about but needs to improve, Fraser can improve on some decision making but if we are totally honest she is quality and is a proper footballer, shes busy, she creates, shes technically gifted, we need her every week. Taylor on the oxygen tank. We miss Knott.
Up Front - liquorice all sorts, thats with selections and ability. Speckmaier stats as ive said earlier sunday league stuff, love to know what Temple sees in her as a player and import slot holder. Breslin frustrated and poor atm. Main best of a bad bunch.
Bench - has some impact but can't rely on it to improve what already out there
Coach 3/10 - been a whacky season so far with approach and summaries of matches. Got a sugar hit but now is struggling to come up with solutions and fixes.
Something needs to change.....But we live in hope...maybe not next week but Canberra after that!
Well that game started so promising, at least for the first 10 mins. we actually looked in control until they scored from some very nice footwork from Badawlya, followed up by a similar piece of play by Trimis. Our defence on both plays was poor, not a single tackle made as both players skipped past defenders. After that we didnt really look like scoring until the last 10mins or so when we bombed forward ancd went direct instead of trying to hit on the counter. CCM did sit deep and allow it though. One of the rare times I'll agree with SN and his summary of the performances. McMeeken for mine is better than Davidson, Foster at LB does a job and is really solid on the set pieces, maybe lacks a little pace, but Lake covers her well. Whinham is a decent player with ball at feet, but she loses the ball in the worst places, far too weak on the ball gets bumpoed around all over the place, her and Speckmaier spent so much time on the ground askign for a foul - which was never coming, although I thjought the ref was very lienient on some of the pushing and pulling early on. Fraser looked great early in the season but even she seems to have lost some of her composure and positioning. Last two games she has not been at her best. Again the mifield lost the ball in the centre of the park way too many times when we are on attack which puts so much pressure on the defenders to track back and get into position to defend. We are trying to play possession football but we cant keep the ball for more than three passes, unless its betyween our back four.
Where to start. I dont think any of players came out of that very well, it was a really very poor team effort.
We looked to be a totally different side to the last 2 games Ive watched live, we were totally outmuscled in midfield and never really got going. We had a high possession count, a high pass rate/pass completion rate but most of those were between Barry and Lake and Foster, going absolutely nowhere. We created absolutely nothing to be honest, we were largely gifted our goal although it was well finished by Main.
Taylor, Longo, were they out there? Foster not at all good for the first goal, for the second goal - Main lost it in midfield but we seemed to have absolutely no cover or defence whatsoever. All season I have not liked our shape up front, I dont know if its this "false 9" crap or what, but there is no target, Main and Speckmaier are too far apart, too isolated and ineffective. I guess not having Cox didnt help that. Brown offers nothing as an impact bench player, maybe she could do something starting at the pointy end as a target, but she hasnt been given the chance. Whinham generally did alright, but just got overwhelmed.
Fraser was very ineffective, and maybe thats our problem - if she doesnt come off, we seem to have very little. We needed to have her play deeper to try and bring the ball out, cos noone else could do it.
Whinham and Fraser can't be on the field together unless it's late and we desperately need a goal. They both try too hard to create and give away the ball time and time again
you take Fraser out and we are a wooden spoon outfit.
i think she is trying too hard......that sometimes happens to your best players when team is in a hole and struggling, they feel a lot is on them to reach the light.. I don't think its particularly fair on her that players around her are under performing.
Your best players need people chipping in to be effective.
image.png490.49 KBOne thing I have enjoyed seeing this year is Temple and the senior players not afraid to be honest and public on social media, and acknowledging that the performances aren't good enough right now is at least the first step

I’m glad they see the same thing. I guess a few things are easy to fix. Let’s hope they can do it.

Fraser trying to hard or to do too much could well be the case. I'd expect Temple and co to be talking to her and asking her to keep it simple. Stick to the basics and bring everyone else with you. Having said that she shouldnt have to be the one that carries the side. Longo and the other midfielders are experienced enough to do some of the donkey work.
Stop congesting our midfield with the fullbacks coming inside. Open up the game, send them down the lines. Gives our midfield an option to pass to.
Especially when our set piece is so dangerous. Exploit the wide areas. Try and get in behind and if can't send ball into dangerous areas at least force corners
now drop to 7th could be low as 10th after this week...results dependant.
need to sort our crap out.
Do we have a sporting director or someone who sits above Temple? think he needs some help here.
I believe Gill is the DoF for both the men’s and women’s sides
Maybe Temple needs help, maybe this is just a bump in the road, which you're gonna get in a team of young professionals. Hard to know, but, it's obivous this team is a work in progress. There is clear improvement on the last two seasons and that is partly due to the change in coaching and style of play, as well as the imports. They've shown promise, but like everything it's not always going to go how we all want it to. We can only hope that things are being worked on and wait for improvement.
Im really surprised there hasnt been much comment about how the slump coincides with Knott leaving and her comments. Yes realise there are also a couple of major injuries as well but just cant help wondering if maybe there was a little more to it.

There was a lot of talk about Knott leaving on thisforum. Some people said there must be an underlying problem other said no it's not. There was also a discussion about the the 'vacation' of Edwards and Main. We don't know the reasons, everybody is guessing. We know the form of the team dropped. We will find out in the next week if they bounce back.

I *tried* to comment but I got yelled at, lol
Seriously, I have to repost the conclusions of this argument: "If someone suggests something might not be right, why not at least look into it? This would not only be the right thing to do for the people involved, but it makes business sense as it is significantly cheaper than the often-inevitable review."
Realise there was plenty of discussion about it at the time im more saying im surprised it hasnt really come up in recent times since the slump continues.
I'm not commenting on the team culture, but I think we may well be missing Knott on the pitch. Our performance have been better this year when she's been on the pitch, then when shes Knott been. I think!

Knott this year, absolutely. Before she left she was in Nix career best form.
Big test now for Temple and his coaching staff. Can he change and adapt. His small ball has been found out and is no longer working. Teams have figured out how to shut us down and we are totally losing the battle of the midfield.. compounded by a drop in confidence in the playing squad, resulting in rushed decisions on the field and not being able to affect the accuracy required to carry out the game plan. Teams need to evolve as the season goes on. I think Temple and co need to simplify what they are doing, try and build some confidence back in the squad somehow.

Could not agree more! Small ball also looks like it has been given a holiday!! IMO Knott was the glue that held that midfield together. We do not have any ball winners in the midfield and too much of a luxury to have Fraser, Winham and Longo on the park at the same time. Dare I say it, but the conditioning of a few of the players also seems to have gone backwards since the start of the season and this also needs to be addressed.
We are gettin out run by other teams absolutely yes. Fitness/athleticism always been an issue at times for our kiwi girls. Touchy subject in the past so won't go there.
Aussie always fitter so we need to find a style and way of managing game to suit us better.
We are playing up tempo in the first half and trying to win games in the opening 20 mins....but then we completely gas out. Second half tredmill football until subs come on. We need to look at how we approach and manage games.
Tactically we are complicating it trying to be Pep with inverted fullbacks etc. Our players need basics....basic understanding of simple football. We are limited.
I think we will improve or get a bounce game when we play Canberra. This week may be a bridge to far.

Have you seen Canberras goalscorer?? ???
Above all,I think we can be too predictable. If I can predict where pass is going before it's played,I'm sure as hell the opposition can.
