I guess this must have been mentioned, but this is both odd and hilarious: Apparently and somewhat disappointingly related to a tour in the 1970s where they lost to a bunch of amateur teams.
QI, great show. The episode with the story, about how it how it wasn't until about the 3rd attempt that Darwin or someone managed to get a rare turtle successfully shipped to the UK from Sth America or somewhere - a favourite. With previous attempts the protein deprived British sailors, had found the turtles too delicious not to eat enroute!
