He's revered in Reading, week-on-week. Don't think we should take for granted here just how good he is and how good he can become. Potential to be our next great CB.

Consistently receiving the same kind of comments, examples of which from today's game are below:

Who knows what may happen if he stars at the Olympics. West Ham signed a 19 yr old Reid after the 2010 WC.

I'm likely an outlier but I don't mind Bazeley playing Bindon at RB (a position the AWs are weak in). I think it's not a bad way to introduce him to international football, in a position where a bad error is less likely to be punished. I'm sure he will be a 1st choice CB alongside Boxall or Surman soon enough. So lucky he choose NZ over the US.

I’m still guna reserve my right to be frustrated when in a 0-0 game Rufer rampages through the centre and the only outlet on the wing is Reading’s favourite CB…I can understand if Bazeley wants a RB who plays narrow and doesn’t get forward much, but that’s not what the last game was.

But yes glad he’s chosen us!

Niche Cache.

Nobody born in 2004 or later has played more minutes than Tyler Bindon this season across the entire League One.

Be very interesting to see what happens next with him.
Reading do look likely to avoid the droo and apparently close to having new Nth American owners. So he may stay where he is.

The Olympics will be packed with scouts from all over the world. He is sure to be picked up by someone. Reading need the cash so would welcme a transfer fee.

The term Rolls Royce gets thrown about pretty loosely these days, but this kid is on his way to owning one if he keeps playing like that!

No right to head that off the line whatsover, absolutely no right! The Bristol player has properly laced that.

How do you feel about him at RB? We just have to get him involved somehow and then move him in to CB when Boxall retires or slows? Or it’s somewhat counter productive?

So Reading (17th, 49 pts, -2 GD, 43 games) win 2-0 Bristol Rovers (16th). An important win.
https://us.soccerway.com/matches/2024/04/09/england/league-one/bristol-rovers-fc/reading-fc/4089198/

Means Reading are basically 90% safe to be in League One next season. They are now 9 points clear of Crocombe's Burton Albion (21st, 40 pts, -26 GD, 42 games), though BA & other teams below Reading have games in hand.

Max Mata's parent club Shrewsbury Town (18th, 46 pts, 42 games, -28 GD) also look pretty safe.

Crocombe's Burton Albion are the concern. In a 3 way fight with Port Vale (40 pts) & Cheltenham Town (38 pts) to avoid relegation. Two of these three teams will likely be relegated. If BA go down, you'd think Crocs would find another L1 team keen to pick him up. He was getting alot of L1 accolades earlier in the season, if not so much lately.

BA are 21st on the table, but only 17th for goals conceded. However they are 23rd for scoring (33 goals), only Mata's Shrewsbury have scored less goals this L1 season with 31.

Oh & don't think integrating 19 yr old Bindon into the AWs & senior international football at RB, is a terrible thing. Especially when the usual RB first pick, Payne was unavailable. Someone above said Ryan Nelsen debuted as a RB for the AWs?

It's at the Olympics (U23 football basically), where serious questions should be asked if Bazeley doesn't choose Bindon & Surman as his CB combo. Though against the loaded French & American teams he may yes go with 3 CBs.

Agree with YH, and with your latter query - I don't see any benefit in playing him at RB, either for his development or for the team. I personally think he's a nailed-on starter alongside Boxall in the left CB slot where he's been playing for Reading, but I totally understand if others think that's premature

Strong head on his shoulders so acclimatisation to high-level international footy shouldn't be a long process - the decline of Smith and Tuiloma and the stagnation of Pijnaker provide prime opportunities for this. Surman's right there, too, waiting in the wings - their future partnership is a thing of beauty in theory

I can’t understand in games where we wanted to test ourselves against good opposition we played Pijnaker and Smith. And didn’t look at other RB candidates. This is when our best team should be strengthening their connections. And not really being able to attack down one side makes us predictable and puts a load on the rest of the formation.

Smith and Pijnaker played okay, but training etc is where you get a look at players. The charitable interpretation is that Bazeley doesn’t know his best team yet. But I really wanted us to treat that pseudo- tournament with much more intent, not a get out of it without too much damage type situation.

If the ownership saga finally gets sorted (at the earliest it sounds like a deal will be struck after the season ends) then I can see Reading locking him down on an extended deal. In the process he will become a very valuable asset for the club, and then you consider he doesn't even turn 20 until more than halfway through next season as well.

Might be a bit hard for Reading, and probably more so Bindon to overlook any possible overtures from further up the chain though, especially so if the rumoured links to Arsenal remain. But exciting times to have a proper centre back coming through and showing some real promise for the future.

There's a fair few Americans in tears that he's chosen us over them. Probably understandable given his rapid rise in stature in the game.

A headed goal & headed assist in a week. With the assist he really throws himself fearlessly over a pack of other players. From memory only just headed over against Ireland at Dublin late last year.

Would be great to have someone who's a genuine athletic aerial threat at set pieces for the AWs. For awhile it looked like it would be Tuiloma (on fire in the 2022 MLS at Portland with a great leap), but hasn't come to pass.

Tbf (especially after I doubted him some) Tommy Smith came quite close in the last AWs game! Post or something? But yeh, Reid was the goal scorer who kicked off that WC.

If the club can get a bit sorted behind the scenes having another year at league one at his age may not be a bad idea. Think he still has some filling out to do

Surprisingly his strength at his age is one of his stronger points! Definitely doesn’t look it, but he can comfortably exert his will, especially in the air

Maybe next time AWs play the USA (no doubt not in NZ) the small pocket of AWs can chant "our Tyler is better than yours, better than yours".

Edit - of course a chant for those NZ football fans at the Olympics. Game 2 in the pool, 28th July 5am NZT at the Vélodrome in Marseille.

Full game in a 2-2 draw. The point confirms Reading as safe from relegation. Big turnaround after the were rock bottom, and sold lots of their better players early/mid season. Things looked proper dire then. Sounds like they are close to also getting rid of their despised Chinese owner.
