The wind must have been hurting my eyes more than I thought. I was
not impressed with Daniel, again, average at best. To me Brown was
better. O well, there's a few more games for me to change my mind
on him.
The Phoenix looked 4-4-2 to me with Brownlie and Smeltz both spening time on the right hand side.
Moss, Lee, Old, Dodd, Lochhead, Brownlie, Aloisi, Brown, Daniel, Smeltz, Covs.

Craig Allerdyce?
Incidentally Frankie... wasn't it six ?
<!-- bmi_SafeAddOnload(bmi_load,"bmi_orig_img");//--> Was
6-1. Covs 2, Smeltz 2, Brownlie 1 and Daniel a superb penalty. He
was easily the best player on the park tonight. Encouraging
signs...
Thats a really good sign, for not jst the team but for the fans caz
im sure myself included that after the two poor results against the
under 20's the phoenix would be average. But good signs and
hopefully a couple more signings will be made. Looking forward to
the pre season sydney game!

that penalty was a huge dive!
Daniel didn't skin any players - though I imagine it
wouldn't have been the best surface/conditions to be doing that -
but he has got a lovely touch and a great long pass/cross. I think
you needed to read between the lines a bit with those
conditions.
Covs obvoiusly needs to make up with pace what he hasnt got so
far as his touch goes. Brownlie didnt look like an athlete.
By the second half everyone performed creditably.
Conditions were aweful. Football was OK considering this. Phoenix
players need to get some boots with studs. Overall OK with some
touches of class thrown. I think Brownie need to stay on his feet a
bit more. Would have had two yellows in a normal game. Felt sorry
for Daniel, I don't think he has ever seen rain let alone played
in it before. Andy Barron looked the bizzo for Central XI,
Dylan Hall made a few great saves but neither keeper could handle
kicking in the wind (with it or against it). Lots to work on but a
pass mark I think. 5/10 but condition didnt help either side.
Just wondering, did Daniel come out of the Aussie desert or did he
come from Brazil?
Why would he have not seen rain before?
Figurativly, not literally.
good report but is there any change we could have the results or
reports, at the top of the page the day after instead of hunting
all over the web site.go the phoenix.
Goggy,
Normally we'd have a report on the front page pretty soon after, but our match reporter is broken and his replacements dropped the ball...

sorry about this. i went to porirua park by accident.
took me a while to realise i was watching rugby league.
can anyone confirm the lineups?
i know the central league side had rooker, culpepper, hall,
andy andy barron and robinson. who else played?
how did the phoenix line up? 442? 4312?

Alderdice (Manawatu/Miramar). None of those guys are
playing any regular football so would have been pretty unfit.
Apparently Andy Barron was asked to play RB by Ricky...

As I typed it I thought it didn't feel right...
Did anyone else see Ricki talking to GT about borrowing a sub when
the Phoenix guy went down injured. Classic moment of the match I
think.
Yeah the Central League team didnt look like it could last the full
90 anyway. Phoenix needed a game facing un-fit 'CL' players that
havent played for months or are just plain average anyway.
I thought the football on Friday was a bit of a shame. 99% of this due to the weather! Actually I'm surprised the stand was nearly full, despite the conditions being so terrible. Good on those who turned out!
On a related matter, the crowd was pretty bloody
passive. I know it was only a training run but jeeeess fellas.
.. Luckily my bruvva showed up and yelled a bit ;0
Everyone seemed a bit nervous, and maybe scared to stand up
and let it rip, perhaps worried that some dick is going to
shut it down (typical Kiwi mockery attitude). . . Without
some leadership, I'm not convinced that it's going to fly
Let's hope we get organised before long, otherwise its giong
to be a quiet season up in the stands.
The average Kiwi football fan doesn't know how to fully support a
team. We have been brought up on standing pitch side not
saying much and trying to keep people woundering how much or little
we really know. We need to be noholds bard right behind WP
and not give a shiv what anyone thinks. As soon as two people
kick off im sure the numbers will follow. Yellow fever makes
a bloody good start I think.
Lets just harden up and get stuck in, enjoy it, get vocal, and most
important get those brews down!
