So who do you guys think will be the biggest threat for v3?

Sydney have shown in the ACL that they'll be a more attacking unit this year but won't be breaking the bank for another Dwight Yorke and if Carney goes, despite his one footedness, he'll be hard to replace.

Adelaide are rebuilding, Aurelio Vidmaris untried, and they have gutted the heart of the squad that was successful in v1 and v2.  Having struggled to score goals in the ACL  think they could struggle.

Melbourne will, of course, be the team to beat.  Losing Fred is a big blow but they think they have covered him with their Chilean (?, name alludes me?), finding another Fred will show they have the best scouting department in the league.  I think they'll come back to the pack somewhat.

Queensland look to be the big off season movers for me.  Not sure why, just my gut feeling.

My details are sketchy, and I'm more interested in your views anyway.  Go to it!

Melbourne Victory 1st, Adeliede 2nd Sydney 3rd. I think Central Coast r going to be sh*te!! Perth wont be much better and i think we will finish 5th 6th or 7th. Not last though. Adeliede and Melbourne have recruited really well!! and the guy is from costa rica

Cheers xcellent, really too lazy to do any fact checking before starting writing.  I'm a bit dubious on Sydney, they have the same team as last year and they can't blme it all on their coach.  I think Brosque is proving to be a bit style over substance and when they are relying on Corica for their goals there is a bit of trouble.

Central Coast always look like they won't be good but have proved handy.  They were decimated by injuries last year and could still have made the playoffs.

Victory by a country mile for me and I wouldn't be writing off the Salty Dogs.  Most of the problems they had last year were a melt down in front of goal, but they have Nicky Mrdja fit from the start fo the season by the look of it and if he doesn't bottle it his partnership with Sasho could fix the problems they had.  They still have Billy the Fish in goal and McKinna does some very clever things as a coach, if they can avoid injuries I like them.

I like Adelaide as well, the question there is whether Skeletor is really capable of getting the best out of them.  Recruitment has been excellent with Agostino, Salley (still think he was one of the best two players in the league last year), Cassio and so on.  I'm not convinced by Diego but if the Flying Mullet (Spagnuolo), Burns and even the Black Brockie (Djite) remain fit then they will be a real threat.  Oh, plus the enigma that is Kristian Sarkies, how will he do without his girlfirend Princess Leijer and will he prove he isn't just a free kick taking star?

So that's three of my top four based on current recruiting.  The next spot remains wide open, Newcastles recruitment if confirmed is interesting but Carle was pretty talismanic for them, the Clogs have some good players, but to counter that they also have Farina and Tiatto, and I'm not sure where they will score goals from.

Glory look weak but they do have Super Leo Bertos and could do anything, and unlike his sycophantic fellow world game presenters I remain to be convinced by Branko Culina, then there is us and I have no idea where to place us right now.

I think 3 are likely and the 4th spot could be any one of 3 teams right now, but I reserve the right to change that based on future recruiting by all sides (always have a get out clause).

Just on Leo Bertos, do you think we would b able to recruit him for 2008/09 season? I heard he still has 1 year remaining on his contract at Perth. I fully rate him as a player. Taped that AW vs Wales game and watched it again the other day, he had a good 1st half.

I have a feeling Perth will have a good season, top 2 or 3 for me.

Im not sure where we will finish, perhaps somehwhere in the places 4-6, then building on that and come back even stronger for the 08/09 season, and with a years A-League experience under their belts, and make sure to sign Bertos.

Phoenix will win it. No doudt in my mind. Unbeaten all season, will only concede 6 goals and will score 56 minimum. Old will turn out to be the best defender in the league and Costa will finish the season with 25 goals and get offered a contract at Everton (if he's lucky). He'll turn it down and be a marquee player next season for the mighty 'Nix.
We'll also get 30,000 at every game and teams will default just to avoid playing here as the chanting will be deafening. YellowFever will occupy 1/4 of the stadium with membership being restricited to members with a status of Squad Player an absolute minimum.
Well thats one scenario anyway :-)

Il ike toffeemans ideas, although i'dlike to see costa take the contract... i need a kiwi in there to help justify my support, although they might sign Winston Reid from what i've read, and he almost counts.

Victory look the go for me, followed by adelaid.

We'll be fourth.

Head in the clouds if ya  think we'll win it. Anywhere betweeen 5th and 7th will be  a good season. Even coming last and being comeptitive wouldnt be a disaster.

I think MVFC will probably win it, a toss up of Sydney or Adelaide second.

Nembo, mate. I think you're taking me a wee bit too seriously. I'd be stoked with a top 4 finish but realisticly, anything above 6th would be good.

Melbourne to win, Adelaide to come second - grand final to be closer than last year.

Phoenix to finish between 4th-6th.

Thompson to be A-league top scorer.

George to be Nix top scorer - unless they play him on the right wing.

My predictions would be:
1st - Melbourne Victory (Still a v.strong team. Would like a bit of consistancy in the top teams in the A-League from now on. Too much equality between the teams is rubbish.)
2nd - Sydney (They showed in the ACL that they're improving and have recruited well so far)
3rd - Adelaide (Look weak, but have shown they can peform consistantly.)
4th - Phoenix (3rd, 4th and 5th places will be very tight. But I think the Nix will sneak in.)
5th - Queensland (Have been the best recruiters so far. Farina's time to shine.)
6th - Newcastle (Without Carle, they're nothin. He was their inspiration.)
7th - Central Coast (Still weak, still very up and down.)
8th - Perth Glory (Have had a very uneventful off-season, and Mols won't make that much difference. Look how Brian Deane performed!!)

lynch, milicic, and apparently marcinho has turned a few heads this year. i dont think they will have those same goal scoring problems as previous years and i think they will finish runner up to us... my two cents anyway.

and adelaide are way overated in my opinion. they recruited young players (minus agostino and the flamengo bloke) and have one of the worst defences in the league.

also the team names will hold true...
Victory to be Victorious
and Pheonix will crash and BURN  then maybe rise the following year!

What was the edit NH? Changing the "were" to "we're"? I always look for grammatical errors in posts pointing out grammatical errors. . ..  I wonder if the edit cleaned any out. .. LOL

wasnt lynch injured for a few matches last year, and milicic didnt get much game time. im not saying there stars, but you said they (Roar) wont score in the coming season. i think they will. with better players behind them in marcinho and tiatto and mckay will get better. but i guess we will have to wait and see... and are we stating a spelling contest? Fark.

I just have one thing to say - Melbourne Victory better not win. Their fans ego's are getting way too huge. (+ my Dad supports em!!)

Phoenix to win :p (gotta have faith, no matter how blind :])

I think a lot rests on the shoulders of Hernandez (finally bothered to look up his name), he'll have to deal with the pressure of being the new "Fred".  Will be interesting to see how he goes...there is a genuine weight of expectation on him...Kevin Muscat is a year older...god I can't wait for the season to start, it's taken an absolute age!

Added the grammar correction to it...

Mckay... probably my most hated player in the league.  He, Tiatto and Farina... f**k I hope they finish stone motherless last (apologies to the few Clogs fans I know).

(For Phil, the EDIT here was to add the apology)
