2 Weeks left as a Sydney FC fan
There was quite a dilemma I was placed in when the announcement was made that Wellington would be hosting the new A-League, but I've decided to stick to the principles of supporting your local team, and will make the switch of allegiance in the pre-season cup game.
The reason I supported Sydney even though I was living in Wellington at the time the A-League kicked off was because of the 3 years I had lived in Sydney before moving to NZ in mid-2003, when the league kicked off I was still traveling fairly often back and forth between Wellington and Sydney and felt a lot more connection to Sydney in the A-League than the Kingz/Kinights.
But 2 years down the line, and 2 years more I've been in NZ, and unfortunately I don't get to travel back as often as I used to and feel that the right thing to do is get behind the local team - and there is a fair bit of excitement in Wellington looking forward to getting the team up and running and I hope and I'm sure the city will get right behind them.
I bought my membership last week for the YF zone and I'm fair looking forward to the season getting under way, especially with an opener against the Tards - as being a Sydney fan for the last 2 seasons has given me an extra sense of dislike for them.
Did you ever sing "I'm Sydney till I die"? or did you always sing, under your breath, "I'm Sydney till I move"?

It's not a position I'd ever thought I would find myself in, who was to have known two years ago that the Phoenix would exist, but being brought up (and still) a Hibs fan - nothing sticks in the craw than watching buses leave from Edinburgh to go through to Ibrox and Parkhead full of Edinburgh folk supporting the old firm, when there's two perfectly good teams to support in Edinburgh, so I've always had a strong sense of feeling that people should support their local team, and when the A-League kciked off Sydney were my local team due to my connections there and travelling regularly back and forth.
It's something I've been weighing up now for 3 months and to me it feels that Phoenix would be better off with my support rather than Sydney (considering it's from afar and maybe 1 or 2 games a season attended) - I know that Sydney fans who go week in and wek out will probably say they're better of without someone who can change team like that - but circumstances prevail - anyway it's not like I'm changing teams for any gloryhunting reasons!!
Why didn't you support he Kingz or the Knights? Just curious mate, I'm not rounding up a lynch mob or anything...

You're in the same position, aren't you? You support Melbourne?
I live in Melbourne but haven't lived here long enough to justify supporting the Victory. Was born and raised in Wellington and lived there for 17 years so it's a pretty easy decision for me.

Haha. You are in the exact same position as my Dad, then :D Though he lived in Welly for a bit longer. It's going to be interesting this season, as my Dad will be supporting the Victory and I the Phoenix :]
