Victory thrashes United, Vidmar lets rip
Guy Hand
February 14, 2009 - 11:14PM
Adelaide United coach Aurelio Vidmar has blamed political infighting at his club for their 4-0 A-League major semi-final second leg defeat to Melbourne Victory, saying the team was beaten before it even took to Telstra Dome on Saturday night.

Vidmar appeared close to breaking point as he launched an astonishing post-match attack on all segments of the club following a defeat which earned the Victory a home grand final.

He refused to name anyone specifically, but fingered players, officials, and even media as he vented his spleen on "everyone involved with the club", and the politics he blamed for tearing the Reds down.

"It was an absolute disgrace," Vidmar said of the defeat.

"We owe the world an apology.

"Politics is what I put it down to. There's too many people at this club with hidden agendas.

"That 4-0 result tonight was politics, nothing else. This club will never win anything until you get rid of that crap.

"This was a very happy place until a few weeks ago."

Take 2:

Adelaide United FC Coach Aurelio Vidmar has released an apology regarding comments he made at the post match media conference following the Melbourne Victory match.

In tonights press conference immediately after our Melbourne Victory match, I regrettably said some things in the heat of the moment.

I would like to apologise to the city and people of Adelaide for the discouraging comments I made. I grew up in Adelaide and I love the city and people. We have fantastic fans and support for the club and my comments were out of order for a club and city I care so much about.

I encourage all of our fantastic supporters to stick with us as we take on Queensland Roar in next Saturdays Preliminary Final and well do our best to get to the Grand Final in a fortnight against Melbourne, and hope to make the whole of South Australia and city of Adelaide proud of what we are trying to achieve for this great club.

I blame it on their stupid decision to release Diego, Salley and Costanzo. According to Tony P in that interview, Diego isnt injured right now and isnt even making the bench. I bet that if you asked him about Diego, he would say hes injured etc. I would blame Vidmar for not keeping his players hapy.

The commentators said that Vidmar said that Diego is on his way back from injury and may play next week. Going by what Tony P said about Diego not being injured atm, i think there is Definite conflict between Vidmar and Diego
