No referees is ridiculous. Okay, the players are ruining the game with diving and all that. I reckon it all evens itself out.

But look what that charlie uniform november tango Pepe got away with on Torres. Its not football, its just having a thug at the back.

All things said, diving is stupid.

Too  much angst.

Sometimes I can't stand him, but sometimes, just sometimes Archie is a genius.

Allsopp was triply scarred, for he also carried the stigma of his send off and Socceroos' coach Pim Verbeek's infamous assessment of his and Victory brother-in-arms Archie Thompson's performance for Australia against Indonesia last month as "absolutely hopeless".

It has become a sub-text. Asked yesterday about his program this week, Thompson replied: "I start my hopeless training on Tuesday, move on to more hopeless on Wednesday and hopefully get as hopeless as possible by Thursday," he said. Asked if he had spoken to Verbeek, he replied: "I haven't been able to get through, maybe because I'm just hopeless."

Though outwardly light-hearted, and rejoicing in Victory's championship, Thompson's affront was unmistakeable.

They did look completely at sea without Hernadez, but also the pitch was sh*te...Pim should have selected someone in the midfield who knew how to pass. Is there any Aussie in the A-league who can?

Another point, if referees are so accurate with their decisions every time then why on earth are we not allowed to see instant replays on big screens after fouls are committed at an A-League match?

Ask FIFA. Its there rule

i wold suggest that its because in some countries (pick your usual favourite volatile one) if there was a replay showing he got it wrong, the crowd would lynch the ref

If referees can solve these problems then why do they still occur every single week?

If these footballers are trained and paid professionals, then why do they
a: put on crap performances at times
b: make silly passes at times
c: take dumb options at times

Its called human nature. If you figure the average pro footballer to make 2-3 mistakes in 90mins, you surely have to allow the referee the same, although I accept that they need to get the big decisions right.

We actually agree on something!

Players, as you rightly pointed out, are prone to mistakes but the difference between their mistakes and a Referees mistake is that a player has the season to make it up and if he costs his team a goal or 3 points he can either be dropped by his manager or given the opportunity to repay his team.

No sir

They are much the same. If a player makes a mistake in the grand final, how can he repay that over a season and make up for it, he can't. If a referee makes a mistake in the grand final, he gets remembered as a goose. Players can make it up over a season just like referees can spend a season reviewing and reflecting on things to make sure he gets it right next time.

I think you'll find that referees are dropped and are changed around. Because its not published, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I think it happened in the last round where a referee was taken off a game as a 'punishment' step and subsequently not involved in the play offs

Ultimately, I view it all as a partnership. For the game to succeed, you need good players, good coverage, good support and good officials. Take away one of them and the game is let down. They all work together to create something there.
