Hello

So...... you haven't won a league game against a London side this year. Cant go on like that forever and you do still have Fulham at home and Arsenal away to solve that.

You cant win the league but you can pick up injuries and you have some great games coming up and this game isn't really important. Rest your talent.

Drogba is the best player in the league but you shouldn't expect him to be on fire all the time.

Huddink is a great manager and you should do everything you can to keep him.

Zola and Clarke have given you some great times over the years. Return the favour.

Lampard needs motivation. Let the Upton Park crowd provide that to him by leaving him on the bench for 90 minutes.

Let Joe Cole lead you out before he is wheeled back to the sideline to a standing ovation.

John Terry left the West Ham academy at 14. It would not be right for you to put him in a position that makes him question that decision.

West Ham in Europe will give better development to players you will steal in future years.

Enough said.

You had your chances by the sound of it.  Cech even saved a penalty.  That's a first!

Extraordinary stuff, as is the subsequent Sky News interview with the talkback host.  Whatever you think of him, good on him for ringing up and putting his side of the story.  Unfortunately, it is the nature of celebrity these days particularly in the UK where every tiny detail of people's personal lives are newspaper fodder whether they are true or not, or even accurate.  There are always two sides to any celebrity story - just remember that.

Iniesta! After you robbed us in the dieing seconds it was good to see the roles reversed. I thought Roman must have had the ref in his pocket for most of the game though...

I actually felt sorry for Chelsea when that goal went in, but that evaporated the moment Ballack sprinted alongside the referee (and even man-handled him) appealing rabidly for a non-existent penalty.  The ironic thing was that he recieved a yellow card which would have ruled him out of the final if Chelsea somehow had scored a late goal.

Then, he, that utterly odious prick John Terry, Cech and others surrounded the ref at full-time like spoilt, tantruming kids who haven't been allowed any more ice-cream.

Then this...

BBC Sport's Phil McNulty at Stamford Bridge: "Didier Drogba - whose lack of self-discipline saw him sent off in last season's Champions League final against Manchester United - marched on to the field in flip-flops to launch a senseless and pointless verbal assault on referee Tom Henning Ovrebo after the final whistle. He was still being restrained after receiving a yellow card and was held back as the Norwegian official made his way down the tunnel.

"The mood is already angry here inside Stamford Bridge and Drogba's behaviour does nothing but inflame the situation. He simply cannot help himself.

Good riddance Chelsea you bunch of abhorrent, loathsome, repulsive individuals.

And Liverpool players wouldn't have done the same thing in the heat of battle?  You've clearly never played the game yourself.

And now for some sensible comments.  No complaints from me.  Chelsea were guilty of playing too deep and sitting back when they should have been forcing Barca back into their own half.  In that situation, if you don't kill the game off you can't complain when you get stung.  Yes, Chelsea were brave and came very close but I think the tactics were wrong, or we just scored too early.

Good luck to Barca.  They're having an outstanding season and are worthy finalists.  Personally, I didn't want to get to another CL final and have to play Man Utd again - although I think we would have beaten them this time - anymore than the rest of the football world.  Utd will be licking their lips at the chance to miss Chelsea and play an under strength Barca I'm sure.  That's football in all her cruel glory.

After throwing a constant stream of abuse at the ref until he left the field, Drogba went up to a camera and shouted "that is a disgrace, that is a f**king disgrace".

As he is such an honest player (like the 3 or so minutes he stayed down for when a cross hit him on the chest tonight) I would like to offically give him the following:

I'm not going to defend him.  He's a fantastic player on his day but a loathsome individual at times.  I suspect it was the previous blatant handball in the box that had Chelsea fired up and the second appeal was simply the spark.  But then their guy should never have been sent off so it all evens out.  Chelsea could and should have killed the game off and didn't.  End of.

That ref WAS disgraceful. Shouldnt have been a red, should have been at least one penalty to Chelsea.

But in the end, we shouldnt have left it up to the ref to decide. We should have killed the game long before.

We dominated, and everyone thought we would get a hiding. Barca got INCREDIBLY lucky

The ref was admittedly terrible - just like the first guy was at Nou Camp. You may say that Barca had a fair bit of luck today(two penalties that should've been called for Chelsea), but they also suffered, having to play with 10 men for the last 25 minutes for a non-existent foul. And cosidering the amount of bad luck Barce had in the first game (and good luck Chelsea had in that game too), then I can't really see how Chelsea players and fans can be upset about all this.

Ballack, Terry and Drogba behaved like petulent w**kers, and no neutral will have a shred of sympathy for them after such carrying on at the end of the game. That was disgraceful.

Thank you for those gifs Arsenal, wondered what all the fuss was about, now i see.

Drogba and Ballack. What a pair of total c**ts. Drogba's always had it in him since day one but i always thought quite highly of Ballack as a fairly consumate pro, but not after that disgraceful behaviour.

I've tried to resist responding but I can't help it.

The definition of handball according to the laws of the game is when a player:
"handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own penalty area)"

I saw 2 instances where ball hit hand and in the second the defender had his head turned away from the ball. Sorry no penalty there, the ref got it right.

i'm happier than a pig in shiite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just the result I wanted.
Really Chelsea have only themselves to blame. Hiddink got he tactics bang on for both legs but they had to get that second goal at home to shut Barca out. They were always in danger against a team like Barca.

As for Drogba and Ballack.....well....I hope FIFA throw the book at them. Over a season you get good and bad descisions. A good pro just takes it and doesn't behave like a spoilt brat.
Another ref could have whistled Chelseas off the park for their physical approach in the first leg.

GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a fair point but how many handball penalty decisions would you say are "deliberate". 20% at most?  The unofficial definition that most refs seem to play by is if it clearly hits hand and the defender gains an advantage as a result.  Rightly or wrongly that's what we see every week.  The second one clearly wasn't a penalty.

The Pique handball should have been a penalty - the refs' instructions these days include consideration of the position of the arm. The arm needs to be in a 'natural' position for a call not to be made - this has been taken into consideration to prevent players making themselves bigger to prevent shots/crosses, or by leaving their arms outstretched in an attempt to 'accidentally' play the ball. Pique's arm was outstretched, and certainly not in a 'normal' position, hence the call should have been made. The second alleged handball was rubbish, that's never a penalty and I'm glad we're all in agreement on that.

WE SHUT THEM DOWN. We stopped them playing their brand of football. They had ZERO shots on target up until the 93rd minute!
They were creating nothing, we had our chances but either failed to score, or had them taken by stupid reffing.

I dont see how you could say Barca were the better team. They got lucky.

And you didn't get lucky when outshot 20 to 3 (with only 1 on target!!!) at the Nou Camp? When Barca had a clear penalty turned down and a combo of Bosingwa/Ballack should have been counting their lucky stars for being allowed to stay on the field for all the hacking they did?

And also note, Barca had more shots this morning as well - Chelsea only had more shots on target in this morning's game.el grapadura2009-05-07 11:05:34

That's true. It would be an unbelievably harsh way to decide the game based on an unofficial interpretation though.

..and you're right about the sending off, it shouldn't have been a red card.

Press reports seem to be unanimous that the ref had a shocker and questioning whether UEFA should allow referees from footballing backwaters to ref such important games?  It would be a big step up from p-t football in Norway to a CL semi-final that's for sure.  Let's be clear though that I don't personally feel hard done by and still think we only have ourselves to blame for not getting to the final before anyone else starts telling me to get over it.
