Well I hope the Phoenix can do better, but the Knights at full
strength were a good unit in the last season. I think the Phoenix
will struggle for combinations for a while, so wait till the first
four weeks of the season before you make judgement.

No-one will really know whether the Phoenix are a better team on-field until the season proper starts.
But what I can say now is that off-field they
appear to be galaxies ahead of the Knights.
If they play as well as The Knights did in their last games under
Ricky H, then their season will be great!!!!!!!!
As an Aucklander that watched the Kingz and knights from day 1
everything I see from afar indicates that the Phoenix are
light years ahead of the Knights/Kingz.
They have an owner with some acumen , have actually appointed
a chief Exec with some clues , and a coach with some knowledge of
the A league.
The only question mark is the age old one of recruiting - we
are always the last cab off the rank - pleased to see a number of
players on 2 or 3 year contracts which means some stability in the
future. Kingz / Knights was invariably fill of players on one year
contracts.
Believe we might struggle early on but think that we will be
competitive - probably like Knights in their last 4-5
games.
Also watched Kingz and Knights since day one. My gut feeling is
that the Phoenix will be near the bottom of the table this season,
but on much more competitive terms than the Knights.

no way there's more class in this nix side than the knights ever envisaged being possible
they really did recruit badly i think jonas salley & lei lei gao we're their only real sparks in the 2 years they had in the comp there we're too many journey men and i think they really under estimated the quality of the a- league both seasons running
having your owner live in another country calling the shots couldn't of helped either

Wthout kicking a ball this franchise is already better than the
Knights. My season ticket holding Knights mate (who wants to
stay anonymous) knows it and the season hasn't even started.
We have an awesome thing happening here in Welly, we
can't allow it to fail.
Incidentally this is the best looking team from an
NZ franchise - surely...

Well I agree with both of you. The Phoenix will definitely not
be as bad as the Knights, but I think the first season or two will
be tough going. We're a start-up taking on established teams. It
takes a while to get the team chemistry going. A good pre-season
helps, but there is no substitute for meaningful competitive games
and I think it could take while for the team to gel.
My only real concern is that the public and media expect
instant success, whereas I think our 2nd or 3rd season will be when
we will start a season on equal terms.
Then again, Ricki did achieve an amazing turn around at the
end of last season - so maybe he has the secret to getting the team
bonded quickly?
I don't expect instant success - I'm prepared for a first up draw
before we start winning consistently.
I'm sure the Phoenix will be much better, I'd predict maybe a 5th
place finish this season? (First season after all.)

I just hope phoenix can make it away from the bottom at least above
6th and ill be happy. Like thats a succes from rock bottom.But once
in a good position to push on for more points.I'd hate to be the
one to say it but....NZ fans only come to watch winning teams...
