Yeah but you a few wins to be the catalyst for big crowds. There will always be the bandwagoners who only get on when the team is going well!

Some reflections on the day and match...

I went with a couple of friends and my 4 year old boy. The crowd was awesome and the staff a the stadium made sure we could all get in quickly as the walk up group still coming in at 2 was more than steady.

We got a great view about the half way line and well back. The crowd was buzzing and there were heaps of people there taking along kids (even on what was a very cold day).

The Phoenix played so well that it made you wonder how good Sydney were, but a quick check of the team list showed that it was a quality side.

The Phoenix played with composure, strength, pace, and ambition. How good it was to watch! Dodd and Cleberson looked very assured. Lochead and Old never put a foot wrong. In fact the defence played with real confidence. Aloisi was excellent in the middle of the park. He tackled hard and linked play with style. Daniel was super hard working. He got a free reign run forward on either flank and turned up on attack all over the place. Smeltz was a real handful and always looked threatening. Smeltz, Ferrante, Coveny and Daniel gave the Phoenix pace and width which made life hard for the Sydney defensive screen.

All the goals were roared on by the crowd. My son loved it. He was watching as the 3rd went in and he just stood and bellowed and applauded like everyone around him. He had such a huge grin on his face right then!  We are going to love yelling for our theatrical Brazillians! I also thought the recognition of the crowd by the players after the match was to their credit.

Encore, Encore!

Fantastic! All went so much better than I could have dared to hope - even the wife enjoyed it, which is always very important of course! We looked like a proper football team, passing the ball around and all.  Cleberson and Daniel were the standouts for me  - in spite of the hilariously poor quality playacting - but they're paid for their football not acting skills luckily! - loved the bit where Daniel played dead for a while, then jumped up to try and get short corner but corner-taker didn't spot him getting up quickly enough!
Smeltz also caught the eye for scoring goals - can't win games without scoring - and can't rely on own goals being scored by the opposition in every game!
Great start to build on. GO go the Nix.

IT WAS A GREAT DAY OUT!!!   It was simply great to be a part of crowd at a football match again.  It was great day out and it wasn't until I tried to order a meal at a Petone restaurant later that I realised I had lost my voice. Didn't realise I had shouted that much!!

Superb start to the guys in block 21/ 22, keep it going and it will grow. Great result and crowd support, thought there was way more than 6039 as reported. All the players played their part in great PHOENIX  team performance.

great news ahead! really, really enjoyed the game yesterday. crowd was brilliant for the amount, and even that was amazing. an the Nix were even better! got to say sol campbell (cleberson) had a great day, and also enjoyed the somewhat theatrical displays of Daniel. plays well with the ball and gets off a nice pass.

definate incentive to secure my season pass!

Lads...great day out in the sun at the cake tin. awesome result and who would have expected that!! wohoo!

The Nix fully dominated and it didnt really look like Sydney were going to score all game (apart from 1 or 2 chances). could have easily blown out to 6-0 had the nix taken all there chances, but stoked with the result!

couple of things...

1)cleberson was outstanding..encouraging signs, hope his knee is OK. Daniel was creative (and cheeky!). smeltzy was clinical in his finshing.

2)felt like the crowd was about 10,000 as the stadium appeared to be around 1/3 full (with everyone sitting on the sunny side)

3)Myself and a mate of mine who came felt the pitch could have been widened or moved closer towards the sunny side of the pitch so that its closer to the action

4)It wasnt all that cold so dont know what some ppl were whinging about it being "bitterly cold". it was actually quite pleasant in the sun. So harden up! Or wear a jacket and wrap up.

Bring on this fri at QE2 vs the Roar and Aug 26 vs the Victory!!
