West Ham have just picked up a fine of 5.5m pounds, but no de-merit points - apparently the offence wasn't serious enough to get de-merit points!

I assume it's something to do with transfers but couldn't follow the report; anybody able to enlighten me as to what offence was committed?

I don't think they would mind paying...Tevez has been a godsend for The Hammers and if they ave a chance of staying up..Tevez will be the one to lead the way.

The way I understand it is that Tevez and Mascherano are owned by a marketing agency (I think they're called MSI) which is owned by an Iranian dude named Joorabchian. Joorabchian was linked to a conglomerate who wanted to buy the Hammers but the deal fell through. The Hammers were bought instead by an Icelandic banker (thats banker) named Eggert Magnusson.

The Premier League has a rule where players cannot be controlled by a third party. Whether they were being controlled by MSI or not is debatable but thats what the fine is for.

As a Hammers fan I can stomach losing 5.5m quid a lot better than losing points. After all, the players were bought when we had a different owner. The West Ham fans have been brilliantthis season, and it would be bloody unfair to punish us instead of the bean counters at the top.
