New Zealand, the only UNDEFEATED country at this years World Cup Finals.
Think we're the fourth country to be knocked out in the group stages undefeated (others being Scotland in 1974, Cameroon in 1982 and Belgium in 1998).
But this is off the top of my head, could be others too.
This just doesn't seem like a big deal to me. I don't get why we are clinging on to it and trying to say we are any better than the teams who actually won a game. "Spain win the world cup, but we're the only undefeated side" - that is just cringe worthy. I would trade three draws for a win any day.

How is it misleading? It's strictly factual.
Misleading would be to suggest we were the best team in the world because we were undefeated at the World Cup, but no-one's doing that.

I think part of the deal is its a bit of fun. We all know we arent one of the teams that can win the cup so its a bit of a laugh to trumpet the only unbeaten team thing. Its just a bit of fun.

It may have taken Spain seven games to win the World Cup and be crowned the best it the world, but it only took three games for us to prove we could not be beaten in the 2010 World Cup. I'm loving it!
Don't take yourself so seriously.
Seriously what the f**k? Football is meant to be exciting - get damned excited people! It's an awesome achievement, enjoy it! We're the Unbeatables!

If not, they should be!
I don't get it. How can Spain be World Champions when they lost a game and New Zealand didn't?
Exactly. I feel robbed.

Are we only the 4th country this has happened to?
No.
But I'm not going to work out the exact total.

Maybe my eyes are shot, but I didn't see anything in the posts above about the All Whites being better than anybody else. I don't think it's cringeworthy to celebrate the fact that a minnow like New Zealand join a small group who have done what they did. To come through undefeated against teams who were ranked far higher than them is a huge achievement.
It's a big deal.
I reckon Ricki will be pretty chuffed.

Correct.
Bottom line? Ask everybody on this forum if they honestly thought the All Whites would come through that group undefeated. That's how big a deal it is.

Oh, and New Zealand were the only team to remain unbeaten throughout their World Cup campaign, one of my favourite facts from this or any tournament. It's yours for free.
Before everyone gets too carried away, these factoids from Reuters:
Lowest number of shots by a team in the tournament:
15 New Zealand
Fewest number of passes by a team at the tournament:
663 New Zealand

It is utterly legendary for the All Whites to be the only undefeated team at the World Cup! We rock. So totally unlikely, so contrary to all pundits expectations, so loving it.
Of course it doesnt mean we are a top side or even especially good. It just means what it is. WE WERE THE ONLY UNBEATEN TEAM. Yessss. Not to mention we finished ahead of the World Champs.
If you cant enjoy those facts then you are just a big fat downer.
FFS it is something to celebrate !!
No false shame from me

"Although the All Whites still got a mention today. I was interviewing Spanish fans and one of them came up to me, live on camera and said "You are from New Zealand? You are now the only country to have gone through the World Cup unbeaten!"
It really took me by surprise that this Spaniard, in the middle of celebrating Spain's greatest footballing moment, would say this to me - remarkable."
The 2010 All Whites
The Undefeatables
It means a lot to me. i am very proud of the All Whites, this is a rare achievement and one to be proud of. the other side of the coin regarding our attacking, is that we only conceded 2 goals asl well. Considering the peppering our defence received but still held out says some very good stats.
Nice comments from the Spanish fan too Oceania. Obviously it means something to a Spanish fan, especially in their moment of triumph.
Big Deal?? Sure as sh*t is!! "2010 - the Year The All Whites went undefeated in their World Cup Finals Campaign in South Africa." That has a nice ring about it.
but also a bit miss-leading don't you think ?
Eh not if taken in a light hearted and humorous context ,no ones claiming we won the WC but but no harm in a bit of harmless boasting ,lets enjoy the moment lets face it you could be an England fan!!

We are the 6th team to be undefeated and not go on to win the WC.
To EG's list you can add Brazil in 1978 and England in 1982 who were both knocked out in a second group stage.
In 1978 the last 8 teams played in two groups of 4, with group winners going to the final. Brazil, despite being undefeated in both group phases, came second in their group, and went on defeat Italy for third place.
In 1982, the last 12 teams were put into four groups of 3, with the 4 group winners progressing to semi-finals. After 3 wins in the first round, England drew both matches in this phase 0-0, and finished second in the group to Germany.
I know that penalty shootouts are considered draws when looking at overall World Cup records, but I haven't counted them here as I consider them an elimination tool, and therefore, to lose one is to be defeated. If you consider them draws, then there are probably a few other teams to add to the list, including Switzerland 2006, who were eliminated despite not conceding a goal.

We even got a shout in the Bangkok Post on Saturday (2nd to last paragraph)
I only found it because today's (Monday) issue has a small piece on Smeltz's transfer to China, and I was looking for the online version (which doesn't exist).
Nevertheless, it's great that people are taking notice of NZ football.

ive also found it mentioned in Canadian, US, Indian and British media. If the rest of the world can enjoy the fact of our unbeatnenness, then I am sure going to.
