Hello folks,
I've been reading a myriad of ideas about whether we should, or should not be organized when it comes to singing/ chanting etc. . and how exactly we should go about this.
Well, I've done some research, and it seems other clubs have already asked these questions. One of the best examples is Toronto FC, the new Canadian Franchise in the MLS.

I reckon It'd be good to get a bit of dialogue going between the new clubs, as we both have such similar formative circumstances. . . . Feel free to get over to their forums an introduce yourselves. . .
We weren't fimilar with all the Bloc 5 chants at first, but you
easily catch on.
I like the idea of being organised for several reasons. My
idea of a supporters club goes beyond turning up at the game as
individuals, then meeting in the same area to then voice our
support.
I see a mid week gathering at a designated place (Thistle), a
couple of beers, a bunch of people talking sh*t and getting to know
each other, a Phoenix game on the telly and impromptu (sp??)
outbreaks of chants. I hope this supporters club can evolve into
something other than a bunch of people conversing on the internet.
The potential to increase our circle of mates is huge. But if left
to a once a week gathering at the game the chances of the club
evolving is lessened. A bunch of you guys already know each other,
and that can make it a bit harder for "outsiders" to join in.
Or what about a supporters club picinic at a park or a hall,
and show away games on a big screen?
Alot of people are a bit backwards in coming forwards
due being scared of not fitting in.
This is a generalised statement, there will be exceptions to
all rules. My 2 cents.

i think we'll need some order so that the hype doesnt fade
away,
this would be great for the away games, have yellow fever posted around the city at bars to watch away games and chant and sh*t, it'd be good for recruting new "members" too

Agreed - Would pay to do the same for the pre-season games
too. .
man i will be 100% sober, but a lot of drunken yobos never hurt

I've come across your website via another fan of our local professional football team here in New Zealand, the Wellington Phoenix.
The Phoenix have been formed after a previous team (the Knights) who were based in Auckland, failed. Hence the name Phoenix (risen from the ashes....oh I'm sure you understand).
Next month the Phoenix will play their first game in version 3 of the A-League.
Anyways..the purpose of this post is to invite any or all of you to come over to our Supporters Club site at http://www.yellowfever.co.nz
The organisation behind your own supporters club website is quite outstanding. If we can be half as successful as you guys seem to be next year then we will be doing well.
There's alot of similarities between the two clubs,and I think it would be great to have some kind of informal sister-club (or brother-club?) partnership.
Heres a few of the similarities we share...
1) Both clubs play professionally in another countries domestic comp (Toronto - MLS, Phoenix - Australian A-League)
2) Football in both countries is a minority sport. (Yes, rugby steals our limelight and we are constantly kicked in the guts by a media who don't understand/like the 'beautiful game'. I assume you understand what that feels like?).
3) Both are new teams (I belive this is your first season?)
4) Two commonwealth countries with a clean-green image (ok, I'm clutching at straws now).
5) Oh yes..and you have a kiwi playing in your team - Andy Boyens. (Phew, that one could be the clincher!).
Hope to see you on the boards at YellowFever soon.
P.S. Don't fear - we don't gain much from this (except stealing all your ideas and making the Phoenix into the greatest club in the world so that one day we can buy all of your best players...muuaahaahaa).

Yeah would be nice to have us all working as one, but unfortunately
the greeks have decided to set up camp in their own part of the
stadium.
I see...but if anyone ask you about MLS team...tell them The best
team is Toronto FC...it'll be great if we also get some overseas
supporters!..we realy care for futbol around here...don't listen to
the hockey stereotypes

A good bevy always helps the vocal chords, we don't need
organising, it should all be spontainious.
And I hope the drum idea has been shoved where the sun don't

Well there was f*ck all spontaneity at the Knights games, so if you think that fans are just going to turn up and start singing together, then good luck to you.
hey guys, another canuck here. its definately great to have some
pre arranged chants that the fans would agree on singing. and
obviously some chants will develop in the stands and you'll pick it
up and add it to your song sheet with time.
now about the greeks, them being located in a different
section will be great for back and forth chants, but i think its
important to have them on the same page with you to which songs you
sing. i can give you an example from the mls, columbus crew has 3
supporters groups sitting in different sections and singing
different songs. when TFC came to play at their stadium they were
completely drown out by our supporters because though we might not
had the bigger number of supporters but we were all singing the
same song.

oops i think i may have missed the point of this thread a bit...
ummm about organization.... definately try to make it more
sponteneous. your group is probably going to be the ones leading
the chants so when one of you starts singing back him up right
away, and itll catch on with the rest.... more complicated chants
like back and forth with the greeks will probably require some
organization. and obviously dont try to outsing each other.
unfortunately in the begining of the season we had two different
groups singing different songs, and it sucked.

Having lived through the Bloc 5 Days it is just something that
basically becomes spontaneous.
I honestly don't think it can be organized en mass but all it
needs is one or two extroverts and the rest will follow.
Bloc 5 per say only had a hardcore 20-30 and the rest were
periferal spectators drawn along with the themes.
HUMOUR....is the one ingrediant which draws favourable
attention.
Basically need to stay away from the abusive foul mouth chants
(The odd one did B5 no harm) & make it part of the
entertainment.
It will evolve in it's own manner.

after attending the two wellington friendlies i do like the fact
that we chant but we do need a leader!!!!!
a person did take a megaphone today but it was taken off
them by security, if some people orgainised as the "leaders of
YF" with the stadium to have a few megaphones in we could then have
them lead us in our chanting.
i have noticed that set groups of YF start chants at the same
time and it goes to sh*t and we sound like rubbish, our
golden moment as i have mentioned before was the chant at 85'
when by an act of god we all sang in time and f**king blew the
roofs of the houses in thorndan (ok the wind may of helped us a
bit) Imagine if we can be this tight the whole game every game,
then playing in the stadio del cakketinos will be more than
a ring of fire it will be the gateway to hell.

Spontanious chanting is always best. What we need to do is educate
people and let them know that it is ok to have a few beers and sing
like a madman at sporting events. When people realise this they

funny stuff - chants of the year. We could adapt the one about

spontanious chanting is ok for 10-15 minutes for f**ks sake we are a fans club!!!!! we should be there to chant for our team, im sorry i sound so barhumbug but i have actually been in a stadium where 30,000 people(including me) are chanitng in time, its magical and i swear it does lift the team. When we were playing like sh*t we should have sung phoenix chants not the steward has a bonner or whatever it was, these chants are good fun but they should not take over the phoenix ones
