Although if any one know the Maori for 'Fire it up - farken' to sing at the end of each fourth rendition, I felt a bit culturally insestive doing my 'Swedish Chef' Maori on Fri night!!
Hey Jude happens to be the most requested song on radio
rquests in the history of radio. The Beatles, class!
Er, it isn't "Maori"ing the club for PC reasons. It's our f**king culture. Something that makes us unique instead of just copying english chants etc.

I'd love to see the 'nix do the Haka. Sadly I don't think there is
an ounce of Maori blood in the entire squad. A bit of Te Reo in the
chanting would be good be would anyone actually understand it?
Isn't them point to either discourage the opposition or encourage
our team.
Jeremy Christie may have some Maori blood.
You don't know "Hey Jude"? What are you, 12?

JMSimons777 just reminded me,
Buy a scarf.
Then twirl it around while we sing to the tune of poi-e
"Phoenix , na na na na na
Phoenix, na na na na na" ad ifinitum.
Just like we did at the pub on Saturday night.!
This'll be a classic YF original ;)
That's awesome!

It'd be nice to have some songs with Maori lyrics. That would
definately be original in the world of football club support.
The anthem on Sat night was not bad, and we did the Te Reo
version then. .. so why not work no some others?
Anyone got good Te Reo under their belt?
phil_style2007-08-22 16:43:53
Haha sounds awesome.. scarves are $25?
Twirling scarfs above ones head sounds great especially to the tune
of hey Jude ,just like the Dunbar end at Easter road on derby day
in Edinburgh!!

songs

I don't think we need to "Maori" the club. The haka has been
thrashed so much by so many, it has lost it's "Mana". Let's not get
all pc over a football team.

Are we not a multi cultural society? If we choose to encourage one
race, then we should encourage all races. This is a football club
for everyone, we should not go down that road. Keep it to football,
not to ethnicity. As Ngati Porou, I feel it would be patronising.
Phoenix - nan na na na na na na
To the tune of Poi E would be rather cool
Even twirling scarves whilst we do it (horribly jambo-esque though)

What sort of a comment is that "Maori-ing" the club?
The
reason we should do it cos it's original in terms of the A-League
for crying out loud. It's got nothing to with the haka or
being PC. . . Just cos someone suggets something Maori doesn't make
them PC, may be they actually really like it!!!
We've got some Brazilia stuff going on due to our Brazil
connection - I don't see you slamming that as being PC. ..
We've got some scottish influence from the Tartan Army (we'll
be coming) I don't see you flaming that as being PC
So why not add a couple of Maori lyrics to some tunes?

Go Phoenix! Go Phoenix! Go! Go! Go!
(I'm trying to think of something funny to
replace "Bang Bang went the farmers gun" but
failing miserably.
oh, here's the words as well;

now, where do I buy yellow and back pois?

If we go down this path - and it could be really cool if it comes off - then I suggest lyrics such as
Poi-e na-na-na-na-na
Poi-e na-na-na-na-na
Poi-e na-na-na-na-na
Yellow fever do the Poi-e
(repeat the lot ad infinitem)
are about as sohpistcated as we should get.
Try them out though (in the privacy of your own bedroom), they
might just work!
Go Phoenix! Go Phoenix! Go! Go! Go!
