Heinze - Stam - McGrath - Irwin

Beckham - Keane - Ince - Kanchelskis

Van Nistelrooy - Rooney

Just need a right back. EDIT: Could have Heinze there perhaps.

Thats not a bad side

Exactly, that's my point. Why is continuously like this with top players? Also i spose you could have a case for including Ronaldo here too.

I don't think Dennis Irwin ever crossed Sir A as he works for MUTV as a presenter. He would not have got the job.

Wes Brown could be your right back if recent reports are to be believed . . .

Wes Brown is rubbish anyway.

Maybe.

I have total trust in Sir Alex. There is a reason he told the media in this fashion. There's more to this story to come yet.

I would think that the next 6-18 months will have to see substantial reinvestment in the squad from United. He always said that would be the case, and replacements for Giggs, Scholes, and Van der Sar need to be found, as well as Rooney now. If we don't then yes, we might slide for a bit, and massive pressure will go on the Glazers.

But Sir Alex is the greatest manager in British history, and will see the team through this time. If he goes, and leaves the team in not great shape, then only then will I become overly concerned.

Anyway, no player is bigger than the club, and we have to pick up the pieces and take on Buraspor tomorrow, get a win, and stay at the top of our group. Do what we know best, and that is winning matches.

Genuine question: Did you guys get to reinvest the 80m you got from Ronny C or did that all disappear like our Alonso, Masch et al monies?

About 20 mill was spent that summer, mostly on Antonio Valencia. The other 60 million is still sitting there, if Mr Gill is to be believed, along with the usual 35 million a year transfer kitty for the past two seasons, meaning there is supposedly close to 130 million (before the sale of Rooney) to be invested in the new squad.

The fans who know more than I can't help but think this money has gone on the Glazers loans, but the only way to be sure will be if we don't adequately replace Rooney, and also the aging Van der Sar, Scholes and Giggs in the next 12 months. This will be the true test.

^ It's as good as gone then. Same stories we had. In fact we've made money on the last four transfer windows through selling top players and buying low on the cheap.

You're right though, if Rooney isn't replaced or if he's replaced with Totti you know you're in trouble.

He won't go to Man City, they have to shorten their wage bill as it is to meat UEFA Fair Play restrictions. Send him to Madrid and we'll take KAKA and BENZEMA.

I hope your wrong . . .

So crucial that we replace him with two or three top players, a striker and a midfielder, Sneijder would be nice. If we f**k up like we did with CR7 then we'll find ourselves in the Europe League.

It's not replacing him with all these new players, it's replacing him plus Giggs, Scholes and van der Sar.

Benzema to replace Rooney, Bale to replace Giggs, Defour to replace Scholes, and De Gaea to replace van der Sar*. Add some Jack Rodwell (when he gets fit), Tom Cleverly back from Wigan and all of a sudden we've built a new team.

*These players are just examples of the sort of guys SAF should be thinking about, but all would be near top of my personal wish list. All young and very talented. Need a fair bit of wedge for a couple of them though. Time to put up Glazers!

Anyone think agents have something to do with this yet again?

Player wants to stay for life.
Agent realises without more transfer fee cuts that he wont earn maximum money off his star asset.
Player decides he wants to leave.

This.

Or he's actually fed up with his personal stuff in the papers (you actually didn't have to shag all the pros Wayne), and wants to flee overseas to get away from it.

But 90% chance you're bang on, especally if he signs for those Blue f*ckers.

1. What makes you think Kaka would join a club in decline?

2. Benzema is a poor mans Berbatov. Lazy as hell but without the same technical brilliance.

You haven't replaced Ronaldo and if you don't replace Rooney, along with continuously playing old men Scholes and Giggs week in week out, you will soon find yourself outside the top 4.

The amount of talent that we have let go in the past few seasons...

Must say Nani has been awesome this season, in fact this year.

Valencia is a huge loss as well, hopefully it won't turn out to be an Alan Smith type injury. Valencia is a great and very very important player for United.

It is reported that his wife does not want to move to spain etc so i'm pretty sure he won't want to be away from his wife and kid.

Chelsea, City are front runners at this stage.

He wont go to city....well not straight from united anyway - but whos to know whatll happen down the line. Maybe Madrid would be a better bet for him, but he's very much a home bird plus coleen is often on telly in england so doubt shed be too keen to wing it to spain.

Id love to know what his gripe is though. Wouldnt be all too suprised if he comes out saying theres no ambition from the owners as they havent let us spend some cash to recruit some already proven talent.

I think its fair to say its pretty much a trasitional period at the mo, much like the few years after the treble team was renewed / refreshed / replaced / whatever.

I really hope we can put the turks to the sword tonight, berba's not scored for a few games!

Meanwhile.. United get three valuable champs league points without rooney or much of the regular starting 11 for that matter. Great goal from Nani, should have scored more early on. Waned as the game went on but nice to keep a clean sheet and never under threat at the back.

Macheda struggled alone up front but got into a few good positions. Be good to see Berba back in action this weekend.
