I am glad to see a return to inconsistency. Predicting our hopes to be swelled by an outstanding performance against a complacent Man City, then a toothless effort against Wigan.

Id even give Ryan Taylor a go before Perch. He has been woeful. Carroll arrested again overnight. That means he has two seperate assualt charges before the courts. Not good.
Someone needs to take him quietly aside and have a wee chat before he affects his career.

I saw the replay on Sky last night. Toon was bossing the hammers for the best part of the game.
I half-watched the Hammers match live while getting ready for work, but it didn't look conclusive to me. Possession isn't a good cue, as they play very direct. Our high line - the pantalon rouge of Newcastle United - will always allow other teams a chance. The partnership of Jonas and Enrique appeared to be very important.
Will re-watch and comment further.
To be honest, we dominated. Barton and tiote are class in midfield, Enrique and Jonas work great together. We lack a quick stiker for Carroll if we play 4 4 2..and a right winger
I was out of town so had sky in the hotel (so can't go back and re-look). Tiote did look good - nice signing.
This derby match will be interesting. I think the Mackems will be the stronger team but at least the Toon are playing at fortress SJP...

Seriously, though: Hughton's comments to the Chronicle - roughly, "We'll try our hardest!" - indicate that he's trying to ease pressure on the squad. There's a tonne of other comments from players and ex-players - the only other article really worth reading is Joey Barton's. Joey reckons that playing at home has been difficult this year and is calling on the home crowd to take it easy on derby day. That's unlikely to be a personal request, but rather one for the team as a whole.

Great game. Colo and Williamson were faultless in defence, tiote held the ball up and won every 50/50 and barton was composed as ever. And big Andy was awesome. Man of match for me. Worked his ass off up front and in defence too.

The difference in work rate between Carroll and Chamakh was remarkable. I know it's cliche but that old adage "you get out what you put in" was so evident here. Carroll put plenty in and got a goal that won his team three points out of it. Chamakh put in nothing and got nothing out of it in return.

Nah, we were mediocre and only deserved a draw. It was just poor to terrible play from almost everyone in an Arsenal shirt that made it a match-winning performance. Fabregas' passing was so poor I thought he was trying to get released from his contract.
