Suri isn't exactly an NZ player though Benny.  Pretty sure we're talking about available for NZ otherwise the list grows pretty quickly.

There have been several Solomon Islanders who have come to NZ to play in the NZFC and its predecessors - most of them came through contact with Colin Tuaa.  Batram Suri was the first - and best - he even played for the Kingz, but at wingback for some strange reason.

Batram was incredible up front for Nelson - he once scored 5 in a 6-4 win over Miramar and then won the meat raffle in the clubrooms afterwards. Classic.

One, Asian player.  Mars Keomahavong, and I doubt he's Chinese.  More likely South East Asian with that name.

I think he is Laos while I understand that Colin Murphy is part Raro too.

Don't think Johnny Enoka ever played for the AW's. Decent player.

Admins, what is this thread even doing on these forums.

.

What is definition of non-white?

Black? Brown? Yellow? Green?

Or does this refer to race? Maori? Samoan? Papuan? Indian? Chinese?

Does Turkish qualify? Italian? Some Italians have darker skin than me.

How much do they need to be to pass your criteria? Full, half, 1/8th 1/16th?

Or do they just need to look darker than the average Arian.

What about being Maori descendant but looking quite pale?

What about of English descent but spent a lot of time in the sun.

Grant Lightbrown played for New Zealand, want to  count him? Tim Brown? Roger Gray,

Ultimatnzsoccer website has a list of all New Zealand players.

Have a read and do your own racial profiling.

With apologies to Grant, I always thought it was Lightbrown. My mistake.

I see the mods have changed the name of the thread, which is probably a good idea.

I also see that your forum name includes the world 'Oranje', so I suspect you have some affinity to or liking of Holland. You could possibly even be Dutch. By identifying you as possibly being of Dutch descent, I have not meant any offence and I haven't made any generalizations. You have not been 'racially profiled', I have merely assumed that you may well be, in some way, Dutch.

In Maori society, tribal affiliation is a big deal and we place an emphasis on knowing and respecting where other people descend from. The Maori in me is genuinely interested in who else is of Maori descent has excelled in the sport that I love; an interest that started when I once found out that I'd traveled and played against several extended family members in past and didn't know it!

I'll leave you with this: I'll often ask a new friend where their family originated. I'm not making assumptions and racially profiling them, I'm just genuinely interested.

You’ll need an account to join the conversation!
