All Blacks loss - mean anything for footb
After watching the loss to France this morning and feeling quite down for a while, I tried to look on the bright side - naturally that meant turning to my number one sport: football.
I myself turned away from rugby a little after experiencing the heartache of '95, '99 and '03.in short i think yes it will help, hopefully with rowd numbers especially.
Agreed Muso. The expectations placed upon the All Blacks are over the top.
Tegal, i did not mean kicking them while they are down - i too am very down after the ABs loss. I just meant that now is a good time to bring up the Phoenix in conversation. People may be looking for other sports without realising it and hearing of something that is positive could bring them along to the game.yeah fair call paulm, good reply!
I just cant get over that after 4 years preparation they still had a fullback at centre and they played someone who had had buggar all game time in the last 12 months.Maybe they were looking ahead and didnt take this game as they should have.
hopefully NZ's media-fueled, marketing-driven, disproportionate and unhealthy obsession with one sport is just a tiny bit moderated by this result
Or something like that...
But then he plays a crapload more games.
Very good comments marius latacus... agree with the majority. Also think ballane made a very valid argument, especially the last paragraph. They certainly have built them up as something special - especially when they spoke about preparing for this 3 years ago - seems such a waste now.
P.S. love your little gif thing alistair, cracks me up
1. Haven't won a world cup in years, but are still touted as "good to do the business" every time round
2. Both have (or had in Englands case) a pin up boy as there "marquee" player, who often fails to deliver in the big tournaments (Tri-Nations is NOT a big tournament)
3. No one is EVER suprised when they lose to teams the shouldn't
By Bye A.B's - no one really cares.
A nation that pins its emotional hopes on 15 individualistic morons, parading as a team does not deserve the sporting adoration that it receives out of all proportion to its stature, and historical-statistical prowess.
The ploy from the rugby world is obvious, treat the All Blacks like gods in front of them and their fans and they will believe the hype, they will regard themselves as omnipotent, not understanding that rugby is a Neanderthalic game where more is achieved by brute force and passion than technical ability, so the like of France with their innate joie de guerre and wind thrown caution will naturally triumph where the clinical and heartless silver backs will fail.
This is the best possible result for world rugby- 30,000 ex-football fans crowded the plaza in Paris, hysterical over the result of a truly obscure game, more passionate than your average Marge from Takapuna would ever dream to be- thank god the minnows have now been eliminated from the so called Rugby World Cup, so that the top 4 teams can proceed beyond the farce.
9001... I'm looking at you Frankie Mac.
It's the - 4.5 million people are in mourning clap-trap I coud wdo without. If 4.5 million people gave that much of a sh*t then the radio sport announcers making those claims wouldn't be barely spotted when it comes to radio ratings.
9001... I'm looking at you Frankie Mac.
Im afraid my dear YF friends that when the lights are on bright, the All Blacks are dim.
I lived in nz for a while and was bored sh*tless with the overhyping of rugby (btw i lived in fiji too and theyre worse).
in oz we are the only country in the world with 4 domestic pro footy codes.
im chuffed with how well the roos did in the afl, the bunnies are rising in the nrl, fleet no good in the arc and the fc.. well, who knows.
see, wallabies can die and most of oz doesnt care. theres nowhere in oz where rugby is #1 (that includes act btw). so, no big deal.
i pity the fools who live in a country totally dominated by rugby.
