Not a bad article on Chris Bale - see - not all the players are paid, full time pros, eh?

And JV, in retrospect, I think ACFC did get the better deal - I'd rather have Bale than Mully.

Uh... I never said at any point in time anything of the sort. I've been quite complimentary of how he has played this year and in fact much better than when he wore a Waitakere white so not sure why you are calling me out. In fact i challenge you to find where I said that.

I have queried how your club has managed to lose 3 players and 2 of note in Coombes and Mulligan to Waitakere and if it was a sign of something else.

Ali, I think ACFC did get the better deal as indicated by Mully's long absense through injury from the Waitakere team. Mully is getting near the end of a long career while Bale is at his peak. Nice to see positive proof via Bale that many of the ACFC squad still have to hold down full-time jobs. Is Jimmy still a window cleaner? Accusations that ACFC is really a professional club aren't born out by the facts.

Good to see Tade back in scoring form and I understand the Japanese player had a good game on the wing for City against Ba.

Yes taku was in good form along with xino and dicko. I was also recently wondering if pritch is still a window cleaner.

Isn't Mulligan and Bale both about the same age?

I agree that ACFC have gotten the better end of the deal....

Mulligan recently turned 31, Bale is about to.

My mistake. I thought Mully was older and Bale younger. Does seem that Mully's neck injury is a long term thing. But at only 31 he should have some years left.

I guess once you reach a certain age it becomes about playing smart. Ivan vicelich seems to be a good example.

Ivan is amazing. Some players, like Ryan Giggs, just seem to go on and on. I don't think Mully is that robust. Helps that Ivan is a defender so doesn't have to run about as much as a midfielder.

Ivans biggest attribute is his professionalism. At 36 he is in great shape and that will always keep you in the game longer. He has been around and while he is not the fastest out of the blocks, being in shape and experience will mean that 90% of the time, you are rarely caught on the hop (Zwaanswijk is another example). I guess in some respects, there is a fascination as to how long he can keep it up for. If it was a higher level of football, it would be interesting. The Premiership, with his experience and fitness, should be a no brainer for a little while longer yet.

"Deathly silence" really? Where were the Waitakere fans? Great result for City. You sound like you enjoyed the game JV. Maybe it would be a good ground to host another Auckland franchise.

To be fair I heard a cheer when Waitak scored. Not a good ground - stand too far from the pitch and the open back meant that when it pissed with rain the water ran down and flooded the stand = wet cold feet for 2+ hours.

Not bad tho....advertising blocked out the side line from my view and that was from the top of the stand , what youd see from the lowest seats would be FA... any stand with an athletic track is definitely 2nd rate ....also ticketing was at stadium gates , a good little walk away ...

still , next stop Morrocco !

Can I ask, how come you guys continually manage to win the O-League after being dominated by Waitakere in the ASBP?

Waitakere have now won four straight domestic titles without making it into the Club World Cup, it's really strange. Maybe it's a mental thing, but claims that Auckland 'step up their game for the big one' don't make sense to me, as the ASB Final is big too, but they keep losing them but crushing it in the O-League.

And it's not like you guys didn't deserve the win, it seems like you always save the best till last, for whatever reason.

Just football really. I thought Auckland played just as well in the asbp as they did yesterday but Waitakere failed to step up on the first half yesterday. Bear in mind that ACFC only barely made the semis.

While ACFC would love to win the ASBP again it's the O League title that really matters. Maybe we do step up a bit more for it because the players love the Club World Cup and the management love the injection of prizemoney.

Perhaps Waitakere are more confident in the ASBP and City more confident in the O League.

There's also the fact that some clubs seem to have better luck in one competition than others.

Call yourselves coalface supporters of local football, yet slag off the national competition  you claim to support as meaningless etc every chance you get. Hmmm.

Whoever said anything about coal face? Where do you get this shit from? I, for one, love the asbp despite its flaws. It's nz's national competition and, as far as I'm concerned should be supported. Which country's competition is not flawed?!

As far as I can make out the only ones banging on about coal face are you Phoenix fans. It's what you resort to when you can't come up with any decent conversation.
