Hartlepool United midfielder Michael Maidens has been killed
in a road accident.
Maidens, 20, was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed into a metal post on the A174 on Friday evening, according to police.
As a mark of respect, Saturday's League One clash with Swansea City has been called off, while all other weekend games involving Danny Wilson's side have also been postponed.
The club issued a brief statement on its website on Saturday, saying: It is with huge sadness that the Club reports the death of young player Michael Maidens.
As a mark of respect, the game with Swansea City has been postponed as well as the Youth Team's fixture at Victoria Park and all Centre of Excellence games.
Our thoughts and best wishes are with Michael's family at this very sad time."
Maidens made his debut for the north-east club in 2005 and having been in and out of the team since, had been hoping to force his way into Wilsons regular first team plans.

Having lost our very own Ray Jones in a car accident earlier this
season. I can understand how Hartlepool fans may feel. My sincerest
condolances to the lads family, Hartlepool Football Club & any
Hartlepool fans on here.
