I was getting 10-15Mbps when I went on speedtest. Was surprisedly good. I'm with Vodafone.

Vodafone around here is pretty much the same, all through the same switch I guess.

Well... I just noticed these guys:

https://secure.aleague.livesport.tv/

and

http://www.therugbychampionship.livesport.tv/

They are geo-blocked in New Zealand, but presumably not difficult to get around with some sort of remote VPN service....

very tempted to take a look at these in near future....

That would be it for me - bye sky.

To clarify - yes i know there are lots of dodgy streams- but i'd actually like to support the a-league, and have no problem doing so. I just am bored by sky's $120 a month just so i can watch HD sports. Honestly- sky is not used the majority of the week, and presents such poor value.

A league at $70. But interestingly at $73 it just says "access to livesport soccer" which I assume means access to all football on their site. Which is a fair amount.

Ok. For the price of sky for a year, if all sport was unbundled and prices similarly to PLP, MLBTV etc, you could get about 8-10 or so sports, full content etc. you could watch only a few games per week of any game you want (instead of just having to watch what they tell you) and you would only pay for what sports you want to watch. You'd also end up with more diversity of sports and different competitions.

It's $972 a year for sky + sport.....

Sky + Sport is in fact a bit cheaper than that: $882 / annum (Basic = $47 x 12 = $564 + Sport = $ 26.50 x 12 = $318)
You can actually pay less than that if you get Sky through Vodafone on a "Naked Broadband" package which is what I was on:
Then you can choose the option to get Sky Sport half-price for $13 / month:
SKY Discounts (Naked Broadband):

Add SKY to your Vodafone bill when you sign up and get one of these great SKY with Vodafone discounts:

  • Half price SKY Sport every month, OR
  • MY SKY HDi upgrade for free (normally $15), OR
  • MY SKY+ for $5 (normally $20) every month
I was also only paying $25 / month for my home phone (home phone wireless).
I only switched when I ditched Sky entirely last year and took up a ridiculously cheap offer with another company of $65 / month for 30 GB broadband and home phone.
But if you want half-price Sky Sport, Vodafone's definitely the way to go...I'll be going back to that in the new year.
(Naked Broadband currently offers 50 GB = $55, 200 GB =  $65  400 GB = $75 per month)

With tcom, have a package with extras, but taking those out, I'm paying $75 for a landline with local calling and 30gb of internet. It's only $10 more to go to 80gb though, as I understand it, so I'm poised to make the jump should I run into issues with watching too much PLP. Not desirable though as that essentially doubles the cost of PLP for me.

Living with my brother in France at the moment. He pays 19.95 euros = about $32 NZD per month
For that he gets 300 meg's high speed internet, free unlimited calls to cellphone and free unlimited international tolls plus 140 TV chanels(equivalent to SKY)...for another 11 euros he gets Bein Sports which gives him access to multi chanel sports including CL plus most European football leagues.

Total package costs less than $50 NZD per month. He can't believe what we pay in NZ for this stuff!!!

I'd be very happy if this worked. I'd love to be able to pay a reasonable price to watch just the A-league in good quality. I have zero interest in other TV (some other football excepted), so could never justify paying Sky's rates. I'd also feel filthy for contributing to the production costs of all the garbage they show.

It's what they say - A League and all that other content. Not sure if live, or on demand. I am thinking of building a proxy box in the UK so i can access this sort of content, but i won't get to it for 2 or so weeks.

I'm thinking that because S** have the exclusive rights in NZ, that means we wont be able to view aleague without a vpn. unblockus is good for that. I think that is a USA vpn so we need to know if livesport.tv can show live aleague to USA. understand ?

You can just pay something like $5 NZ for a VPN from the states and go around this geo-block biz.

With the on-demand option, are you able to access this while a game is partway through? I.e. if Liverpool are playing live at 5.30am on Sunday, can I log on at 6.30 and watch from the beginning?

They have it so it goes straight to the live point. But you just avert your eyes down, not look at the score, and scroll it back to the start. Would be nice if they had a live/from start option.

Yeah agreed. I also bought up that they should bookmark the start of the halves as its awkward to fast forward to the start of the halves while being cautious about going too far and missing some of it.

They came back with 'that's a good point. I know they have it on NBA where you can skip to start of quarters. I imagine we'll get good at fast forwarding to the correct point' (paraphrased). So I imagine they're not going to do it.

To be honest SKY Coverage was great. Nice and clear on my TV, plus recording if you got the MySky.

No Internet is going to beat that.

Hope they'll replace it with other football.

SKY's coverage was only great if they decided to show your teams game and (in my case not having MySKY) you could watch it at the designated time it was on.  For me PLP is far better.

+1 Rammtallica. I get to watch West Ham now every week as well as any other game I'm interested in. The big thing for me is watching it live. If I miss a game I'll watch the highlights, but never will I watch a delayed match. The quality for me is great, obviously not as good as HD, but it is still a very sharp picture and it doesn't buffer like dodgy live streams.

Very pleased with PLP and I hope that they can keep improving.

Was anybody else floored by the ridiculous Davis & Devlin preview email? It is a truly cringeworthy read.

another defeat here would see his effigy burning all over North London.

but it is often hard to beat a desperate Arse.

expecting to hand the visitors a damn good rogering.

West Brom is a miserable part of the World and it will be no brighter on the weekend.

Tigers fans will soon realise that the only thing that stinks worse than the fish in Hull is their football team.

 the rustic peasants of Norfolk

The Canaries will likely be chirping after this one.

will only further depress the already miserable North East.

The Saints surprisingly went marching in last week

at the end of this one the Taffy's are going to wish they were back down their now closed mines.

Haven't seen the e-mail in full, but it doesn't look all that promising from the above.  I liked Davis & Devlin when they were on Radio Sport and even had the pleasure once of going on a footy tour with Davis; he's naturally a funny guy, but this smacks of trying a bit too hard.

Still, hopefully they're right about the West Brom prediction!!

Not sure if it was you who asked them on twitter, but they responded to someone asking the same thing. They said it's something theyve bought up, along with a 2nd half button.

Apple STILL yet to approve it. They've been waiting 3 weeks for them to do so, the average time for an app to be approved by them is 3 days.
