I wonder if you can lodge a complaint based on the fact that it was clearly an article written out of spite.

He would have to skip dessert, that's all I'm saying...
Stuff's moderation is pretty loose so there's a few good comments getting through, including Feverish calling Dave Burgess a "shoddy reporter" and janesmith23: "your whole blog is ineffectual!"
Shots fired. Someone doesn't like getting it back.

The antagonistic reaction of some Wellington Phoenix fans to the notion that Yellow Fever should actually sign up some members suggests that one or two should seriously consider taking their medication.
To have a fan club without members is ludicrous. At Sunday's game against Western Sydney Wanderers it was suggested to me that anybody who buys a ticket in the Fever Zone is a Yellow Fever member.
Using that logic, how about establishing a fan club to cover all those not in the Fever Zone? It could be called the Yellow & Black Block (YBB).
By my reckoning, based on last weekend's match attendance of just over 7100, the YBB would be the largest Phoenix fan club with about 6500 ''members''. The Fever Zone, where I stood, was far from full with about 600 diehards.
It's unlikely anyone would consider the establishment of an alternative fan club, mainly because most just want to support Wellington Phoenix Football Club - not cry over suggestions that Yellow Fever could improve the way it operates.
Given I hold a season ticket for the Fever Zone, my opinion comes as a valid Yellow Fever ''member''.
However, it seems that some think the Yellow Fever is untouchable and bigger than the game itself. They are deluded and should refer back to the opening paragraph.
When has it ever been said that if you buy a ticket in the Fever Zone, you become a member of Yellow Fever? What utter bullshit and he would know that. For seats sold anywhere, including the Fever Zone (an area designed as being slightly 'different' from regular seats) money goes to the club/stadium/ticketek. The above is like saying because I subscribe to the Listener, I therefore own a piece of it. No, I get a magazine.
I'd also like to add that the original article in no way said "Yellow Fever should sign up some members" or even implied it.
I've arrived at the conclusion that this guy is actually mentally retarded or cracks a lazy 6 pack for breakfast everyday.
I signed up to #YFFroum's some years ago and got a Yellow fever (members? it wore out in the wallet) card.
With the new app I bought at fever card. Am I a member or a participant (pain in the but)
I bought a Phoenix Club Membership along with my season pass as well.
It seems really important to him to try and pin down exactly what a Yellow Fever member is, who even cares?
I think this geezer sniffed too much glue when he did his homeless piece
Let's just give him a free copy of the app and a free FeverCard and tell him that the FeverCard is his membership.

Okay. Two points:
1. This is retribution for our complaint about Sam Worthington.
2. The more we talk about it, the better it is for Burgess.
So....
#ignoretheburgess
Just don't talk about it. At all. On any platform.
Hope he shows up at the Bencher next home game. Might tell him what we think of him...
It'd be quite funny to give him the "who are ya?" In the zone.
More like a "you don't know what you're doing."

Do you literally mean "our" complaint? or 2nd Best's complaint?
Because if you lodged a complaint as Yellow Fever that would seem curious to me (and I could see how that could get someone's back up who stands in the Fever Zone and also works for Fairfax).
Compliant was lodged by mean, using my own personal email address. Althought given my name, it would be pretty easy to do a quick google search and link me back to YF.
There is some irony in there somewhere.
By "mean" Dale means "me".
It was Dale's complaint. I egged him on.
If it is the case, it is clear bullying tactics designed to put people off lodging complaints against them. Morally (and probably legally) suspect behaviour.
Doom Post: redefining 'standards' in journalism.
standards - really? you'd be pushing a big roll of shit up hill to suggest they even followed the basic guidelines of reporting.

Can't see what his problem is then. I find it all a bit fantastical that he is actually trying to exact some sort of revenge but who knows?
As long as we're conspiracy theorising I suppose mainstream media does have a vested interest in trying to discredit new media sources like website forums and blogs. I doubt it's like a formal strategy or anything but I'm sure they don't mind having a go when the opportunity arises either. I've really noticed over the last year or two that I get most of my in-depth Phoenix news, discussion etc here rather than from traditional sources. And I'd go so far as to say that in its own unique way this forum dealt with issues like the U17s being charged, the WC qualification fallout and the future of the ASB Prem with a lot more depth and breadth than you would get from mainstream media. A kind of crowd-sourced news model if you like. Sure there's some crap floating around but the cream always rises to the top.
I'd normally agree but The timing is pretty weird though term, you'd have to admit.
It could just be a coincidence however. Doesn't make the opinion pieces any less stoopid
I put a reference to a Press Council complaint on the blog comments and they binned it
So much for transparency!!
I don't believe in coincidence.
Doom Post have terrible piece about Ricki losing dressing room, NOT labelled as opinion.
Dale complains to press council
"article" appears asking leading questions about Yellow Fever
Yup seems legit...oh bad timing.
whatever happened to Pat Piercy or whoever it was used to write a good footy blog on Stuff...
Isn't this a good opportunity to easily set the record straight and try and get more people involved. There probably are people who stand in the zone, who don't know Dale, HN, Greenie etc personally who would ask these questions as well. The blog is completely stupid, but the questions themselves aren't THAT outrageous if someone wandered up and asked them in the pub.
It's not as if the answers to his questions aren't pretty straight forward either.
- There are no members because it's not a club. YF is just a self referencing group set up to co-ordinate support for the Phoenix. YF is specifically separated from the Phoenix because it represents the fans and the fans should be able to challenge the club from time to time. And there is no need for the faff around membership cards etc it because it wouldn't achieve anything.
- There's no money, so no need to worry about that
- He can come and join in with banners etc any time he wants!
But I suggest being a bit careful with comments, picking a fight with the media isn't very smart because in the end they will always have the last word.
