definitely parts of both. but I am sure some parents make a preferential choice for one or the other for "strict" football reasons.

Many that have experienced FTC and NTC have indeed rejected MF's offering for better coaching at other private providers. Burnley is one of them. That is despite the supposed threat of not having a national pathway. That is a crock of pooha  and exposed as such nationwide.  You ask Canterbury United if they give a toss about players having come through FTC/NTC.

for the 2 age bands I know not one single player has left FTC for Burnley (or anywhere else) As far as coaching is concerned I'd take Xavier and Korosh over anyone else currently on offer in Chch. (Junior boys)

I don't know about ASB selection, I'm thinking of U-17 National side where the pathway is lined as from NTC into that squad. It appears that "rule" isn't of commonality nationwide.

Probably needs clarification eh!!

You are not traveling in all circlules mate, I know three girls who were doing FTC for the firs ttime this year and also Burnley and have dropped FTC due to lack of coaching quality, thats there choice of course.

They wanted to form a new club as well (club to use the facilities as home and host the academy) but this was shot down by mainland due largely to there already being enough clubs in the area - FC & Nomads are bloody lucky. Personally I think its far enough away to justify it, but I feel if the quality of the product was good players would travel.

"Personally I think its far enough away to justify it" - What planet are you from ???

Agreed 10CC, this will have a major impact on FC and Nomads (to a lesser extent) numbers. Where was Mainlands dialogue with those clubs? I hear FC's numbers have taken a big hit. Where is Mainlands support for the club? Not good enough for them to hang them out to dry.

Logical thing here would have been for a partnership with FC. Tetso was with FC, i believe the russian funded their new kit when FC was forrmed etc etc. Somewhere along the line the relationship must have soured. Maybe when Tetso was asked to present his A licence, and didn't/couldn't? Something fishy here, but then money can make good more often than not. You gotta ask yourself, why volunteers at a forward thinking club have't grabbed this "opportunity" with both hands, and why MF has not proactively assisted with this knowing full well the outcome if it didn't.

We should be celebrating someone wanting to chuck millions into facilities here in chch. So why aren't we ?

Let's see how long it lasts.

Maybe an ego trip for one out of work coach.

Ask the parents of kids from FC what the problem was.

Something mentioned to me

if FC need some good programs I am sure Burnley can supply !

April 5th not far away now.

Summer Sports finals are the 29th March, I seriously would like to see some cross-code communication. Even 2 weekends gap would be appreciated by most parents.

can someone who is close to the action explain the changes at Burnley academy. some kind of coup? or new company set up now, with different ownership structure? Seems "High Performance Coaching" has more prevalence than the Burnley Academy thing. Even heard the Burnley links might be dropped? Pure 3rd or 4th hand chinese whispers this - so hoping someone can explain what is going on. Haven't been taken over by CFA by any chance? ;)

I had heard from the mother of a lad who is/was in it that Graham McCann/McMann (Graham from Burnley!) had jacked it in and left, so anything is possible I suppose.

Shame really. I like Graham. Always had time for a football chat no matter where he was.

Boo! You don't understand how these forums work... No, seriously, well done for jumping onto this with the website info. Good to see that good football people are still working in football in the region.
Rumours spread best when there is a vacuum of information (which is why so many clubs, feds, confeds cop a bad rap), so good on you for providing some info - even if you haven't explained why the break away.

Hey foal, pretty sure Nth Isalnd academy kids are not eligible for NTC; but that doesn't entice them back to FTC. Plenty of Nth Island kids make national youth teams from schools/academies, with no FTC/NTC at all.

Yes, my take on the situation as well. It seems the pathway here is FTC - NTC - to be eligible for selection for National Comp and National sides.
NTC intake for April is circulated, be interesting if it has any effect on FTC numbers.

the grade I know complete is

1x Otago

1x Nelson

1x Halswell

2x Coastal

4x FC2011 (one of whom played for Nomads 2013)

5x CTFC

8 pre-selected (moan whinge) and 6 through TOL day. Also heard 2 players (1x Sth Cant, 1x FC2011) who was surely in the mix turned it down as would be away in April.

I'll go out on a limb and say those 12 Chch boys would be one strong team for Nationals and if we have better players in Chch in this grade I've yet to see them. So on a selection of "best players available" basis I think Mainland / NZF have this grade sorted.

My new idea for the week is cap FTC at 14th Grade  , then select out a squad (15 players) to train as a team. Would fit if Nationals are starting/staying as a 15's then 17's.

Seems there are different NTC eligibility rules (or viewpoints on whether it means anything) depending on which part of country you live.

In Wellington for example Ole pass on it or are banned from it; yet Phoenix Academy (APFA) kids are doing TOL trial. Yet neither meets supposed 75% FTC attendance criteria. Go figure.

Same with any group that starts out. Pure of intent, and full of purpose, then reality hits and it becomes compromise time, in order to survive.

I tend to agree on the "stop FTC in its present form at around 14 years of age and morph it into something different" thing. What that something needs to be is above my pay grade, but it does need to change.

On a side note, if Coastal can find a FDO position that allows a coach/player to be employed and also coach a team/network of coaches, then why cant Mainland suss out a "courier van driver" job or some shit like that for a random UEFA qualified coach on a bit of a working holiday to come over and assist/run the next phase after 14yo FTC? The idea being they drive a van all day and coach at night for "a bit extra" rather than shelling out massive bucks on a full time person?

14's BW, was one of your 2013 side.

Nomads player trialled for both CTFC and FC2011

rumor mill suggests entire FC side is jumping a grade. If so a big change from last year when 99% of players where in correct age grade.

FC looking at 14's playing in 15th, 15's playing in 16th. They used to play all in correct age group. One thing Tetso got right! If mainland gets wind of this they will not be impressed.

Ha ha. mother of FC 15s player is mainland football admin. Given what's going on in girls grades about playing up, I'd be surprised if FC are allowed to play entire teams up. Couple of exceptional players per grade ok I think.

Clubs have done it for as long as I've been around, including my own.

Mainland recco/guide lines for last season was only FTC level players - at a limit of 3 per age grade

In a number of cases this was widely ignored.

My eldest boy is starting his 9th season of winter football, this is only the second year he is playing in his age grade. So me moaning about whatever decision FC2011 may or may not make probably won't pass the hypocrisy test.

What it again highlights (and yes broken record foal has gone out about this on here for the past 3 seasons) is whining at Mainland about lack of Winter Competition is pointless when different clubs have different ideas on what's best for them.

GG - all grades all divisions have age requirement and team lists.

Latest communication I have from Capital Football has attendance requirement at 80% , though yes, doesnt apply to WPFA as they had several players at todays Capital/Central TOL trial.

In the 2000s there were 9 spaces available, meaning 15 pre-selects ....In the 99's i think there were 13 ? spaces available  - could be wrong though.

Well I'm all for rules that are the same for everyone, so does seem strange WPFA are excempt.

Is it definate that Capital Football have refused Ole players being allowed to trial... or do Ole themselves not allow, (or even asked if their players) be allowed to trial ? .....I dont know...Maybe Ole want total control of the player to keep development, training schedules in house  - like they must play for Wests...Cant play College First X1 (if what ive heard is correct)

Perhaps Smithy. I know Ole take a hard line, but then so did APFA (WPFA) in Chch. My point is it's not a good look to have one rule for WPFA and a different rule for others. The WPFA kids are not doing FTC trainings.

Nate Winkel runs Ole. He has done since 2009 or thereabouts.
