Called up for an ETA for my tickets heading to CHCH. Said that they were doing a big run of deliveries this week.

Didn't think I would make it but PBW announced a show on the Sunday so I checked flights and they had halved in price. Woop.

Dear clubs,

As you are well aware by now, football clubs West Ham United, Newcastle United and Sydney FC are coming to New Zealand as part of the Football United tour and will play a double header at Westpac Stadium on Saturday, July 26.

Kick off times are still to be confirmed as the Hurricanes may have a home semi-final on that day however, Capital Football will postpone men’s football on Saturday, July 26 in order to give every member of the football community the chance to be part of what promises to be an amazing event for the Capital.

The games will be rescheduled and played before the conclusion of the 2014 season.

Probably Junior games will still be held on Sat am.  Hope we don't get a 12:15 game.

I understand that Central Football have also canvassed clubs to see if they want to postpone games on the Wellington date.

I see games scheduled for 9am + 10 am 26/7/14 at Miramar #3.  So must only be seniors cancelled.

As a Phoenix fan who lives out of town and is already paying a lot to go see the game (Tickets are $90 each..) ..I'm a bit annoyed that I'll have to pay an extra $25 just to watch the other game on TV.

PPV - really not sure about this. Encourage fans to go to the game - potentially increase sales but will also turn others away

I wonder how much they've sold the rights to other territories for? I can't imagine that there is much demand in the more than 20 teritories sold.

You don't have to pay $25 to watch the other game, you can either: 1. Travel to the game and watch it live or 2. Don't watch it all. Something I hate is buying a Big Mac and fries at Mac Donald's in Napier and when I go to MacDonald's in Wellington and get the same thing - i have to pay again... absolutley unacceptable. Funny that the UK wasn't in that list. Surely that would be the most important market?

Will you be able to watch these games at a pub?

I'd say most sport pubs will have it.

I think its a smart idea, especially if it becomes a profitable exercise as it will increase the likely hood of it happening again.

The NIX is effectively a company (sport) and have the same objective as any company... make money.

Why are we surprised then that the owners are trying to do this?

WTF, my 84 year old father who has the basic Sky package cannot afford to pay the extra $39.95. Things are tight enough for him,yet watching the Phoenix is one of lifes few pleasures left for him. Try telling that to a few others out there too. I bet my father isn't alone in this respect.

Encourage fans to the Games?  Bollox. Those who were going to go will go. Those who weren't will find something else to do instead. This will turn some off. I haven't yet paid anything extra to wztch something on Sky and wont start, would rather leave it for a few days then watch the replay. Sky sports are putting fheir prices up yet again too. Another fucken grab. Seriously thinking about abandoning sky completely.

I wonder if ticket sales to Auckland and Dunedin are that shit that Domey has gone along with this idea? Sorry to say it David but the students down south would rather soend their money on a box of Woodstocks rather than pay to watch these games. And Sky never does anything for free. Being in a monopoly allows them to dictate anything and everything. I note too that their movie channel and the Thugby channel are having their prices for the month cut. Subscribers dumoing them because of the endless repeats?

Will be giving it a miss. Not really enthused about forking out my dosh to watch pre-season friendlies on telly. Would probably have gone along to the game up here if I didn't have other commitments but not interested enough to fork out to watch on telly

NEW ZEALAND FOOTBALL UNITED TOUR MATCHES TO SCREEN LIVE ON SKY ARENA

SKY ARENA will screen LIVE coverage of all Football United Tour matches in July, giving SKY customers the option of purchasing selected matches of the tour or all four games.

English Premier League teams Newcastle United and West Ham, as well as Sydney FC, will play matches against the Wellington Phoenix. SKY customers can enjoy these matches by booking through pay-per-view channel SKY ARENA on channel 065.

Richard Last, SKY’s Director of Sport said: “When the Wellington Phoenix CEO David Dome approached SKY earlier this year to discuss the possibility of these two big Premier League teams playing matches in New Zealand as part of a tournament with the Phoenix and Sydney FC I thought that football fans up and down the country would be interested in seeing how the Phoenix would fare against such top opposition.

“Following our discussions David elected to have the games broadcast on a pay-per-view basis as this offered the club the best opportunity to cover the not inconsiderable costs of bringing the teams to New Zealand and running the tournament. Both David and I are hoping to see big crowds at each of the games and if you are not able to make it then we hope you enjoy the coverage on SKY Arena.”

The Football United Tour features some of the biggest names in the English Premier League and SKY customers can book all four matches on SKY ARENA for $39.95.

Pricing and booking details:

Have they sold coverage to Australia?

If so it will be on foxsports and will definitely be available for live streaming (may be less than legal though). If not one of the 20 territories will have it availible on streaming.

Lol, its criminal that they are charging us extra to watch... yet we (me included) so openly flaunt rules regarding illegal live streaming.

I cannot imagine that ANYBODY will buy those games.

They are friendlies FFS.

Ridiculous decision which makes the club look greedy, and stupid, IMO.

Come on Patrick, it is not moaning for the sake of moaning.

Have you ever heard of any pre season friendly in the history of world football being on PPV?

It is just crazy to think that this will generate any sort of reasonable income at all. A handful of pubs might buy it and that's about it.

Seems that it's the same people dismissing any reasonable point as "just the usuals moaning" as well.

Do you genuinely think this is a good idea, and if so, do you think that price is fair?

Same old people supporting stupid pay more money ideas as they become poorer. I wonder if the supporters of this concept, would want all whites on pay per view next?

People complaining about having to buy something to use it.

It's a bit different though. When you purchase sky, you generally know what you are going to get. Phoenix, All Whites, A-league. This is something different.

And we have also said that a big influence of crowd size is the availability of games on Sky.  PPV reduces that influence. Pay $25 to watch a game, or $75 to watch it live. There is slightly more incentive to get to a game now.

Pretty poor from the Phoenix. Would have been a great chance to turn some casual watchers into fans and could have been a really exciting event for the whole country but of course they have found a way to fuck that up. Who is going to pay out for it really on top of what they aready pay for Sky? Anyone who was going to go is going.

There's no way this kind of game would normally be on telly here. Can't see what the problem is. If you don't want to buy it, don't buy it.

Would people rather it wasn't on telly at all?

No. Some people might have decided to stay at home to watch it on Sky. Now there is a cost to that. So they might be enticed to attend now as being at home is less attractive.

And remember, this is basically a trail to see whether a big club is worth bringing out next time. Good opportunity to see what the PPV market is like for football.
