I would say Watson has found everyone of the 10 kgs he lost last year. And a few additional ones. Kuripuni Bakery in Masterton is pretty good.

Birhanu Taye may not head back to Portugal.

I wonder if his doing some work for fox in stuffed the process up somehow? That's a shame, as I think he probably needs to be a kiwi to get into the squad.

I don't know about that - I wonder how much cap space we have left? Someone (Ryans Rovers?) posted that we were offering Mcglinchey significantly more than any other club was able to. Burns and Gorrin wouldn't be cheap. We probably have a bargain basement team overall but still pretty close to the cap.

Not only does the foreign player need to be cheap but we can only really offer him one year as the amount of import slots drops and most if not all of our foreign players now are signed through to 2016.

The only player that we are looking for is apparently cover for the centre backs and full backs, hardly an import slot worthy signing.

Seems to me the slot is there if Ifill is fit enough (provided he takes a pay cut), otherwise we might hold it in case we need to strengthen the squad in the January transfer window, or we might spot someone in ACFC that we want to sign...

Considering McClinchey is an international surely we could claim him as a marquee

I thought Doyle looked a very good prospect. Quite quick and decent ball control. Good at overlapping witb Boyd.

We still need a Striker who can be passed a ball and hold it up, pass it around. We're missing Stein. In the first half tonight vs Petone it wasn't working going wide and we had no options through the middle.

Last year Stein would fill that role but this year i'm at a loss as to who would suit that. A Shola Ameobi would go well i think..

Does it really make sense to use an import spot on someone who can maybe play 20-25 minutes in Ifill and could spend significant time not even doing that? Part of me wants to be loyal to him and give him a chance anyway because he is the best we have ever had. If the money isn't there to sign someone better then it makes sense to settle for Ifill. I think you want a lot more out of an import spot than that though. He also plays a position which we have well covered.

I absolutely love Iffy but I would only have him back as a Kiwi or an injury replacement. Visa players must be starters.

Ernie has said we aren't after a striker anymore, however he also said we weren't close to signing any players and then Burns was signed a couple of days later so...

If we don't have allot of cash and Ifill drops his price then I think he's worth it, he will most likely be better than any alternative (unless we uncover another talent in ACFC :P). Game changing impact player, got a few goals in him (which we are lacking), club favorite, win win.

What happens if Ifill is signed but as a player/2nd assistant coach? Does this proclude some of his salary from the cap?

His experience will no doubt help the young squad we have and I'm pretty sure he wants to coach. I've spoken to him a few times (admitedly a wee bit drunk) and he has a sharp football head tactically for assisting Ernie and Greeney and can still offer plenty on the pitch. Just unsure about his fitness and injuries.

Be good if he could be our youth/reserve coach (if it happens, gone quite that).

To be honest, if we can't find a top striker I would try Ifill in that position, I think it'd be easier on his body than playing as a winger, and we all know the man can finish.

Yep, and it's definitely not his natural position; but he can do a job there with the right service

But it completely negates his best characteristic which is taking players on one on one and scoring goals.  He's not a back to goal guy really

If what I saw in the Upper Hutt game is how we intend to play, I don't think Ernie is after a striker to hold up the ball. We will look a lot like the Victory did with Rojas and Archie. Wee Mac will be dropping in between the defenders & midfield, then putting thru balls behind their fullbacks for the wide strikers to run onto and they look for the other to cross in for the tap in.

We tried that a lot last year.  It worked well at times, but in other games it didn't.

That's fine when the opposition either fail to pressure you in the centre of the park or push up high.  But I still think you need a player who can hold the ball up while you advance up the pitch.  If a team defends deep then there isn't the space in behind that you need to make this work.  There were times last year where our through balls just got picked off too easily.

Reira being a ball player does tend to pull the play open in midfield, which should provide wee mac (and/or gorrin) a nice platform for shredding teams....

I do get the feeling Caira's days in a Nix shirt are numbered. Maybe we can let CCM have him to grease the wheels over the Wee Mac issue?

Doyle showed some glimpses of excellent pace, ball control and ability last week in Upper Hutt. I hope his progress continues, he looks the goods imho. But then, I'm nothing in the realms of authority on football.

I believe for Wellywood one has to be born here to be considered a local.

In Christchurch your family has to have been from one of the four ships to be a local.

That'd mean it takes 6-7 years for a player to be counted as a local. Seems a bit off?

Apply for either residence permit, a residence visa, or a permanent residence as soon as you arrive in NZ. Have to have one of those for 5 years before you can become a citizen.

ah so any residence visa is enough? Because there are living restrictions that you have to be in country x days in the 1-2 years prior to your permanent residence application.
