Don't know how to do quotes on iPhone.
In reply to Fortean; yeah probably a good move. Furth are a pretty strong outfit (just beat cross-town rivals Nurnberg 5-1!) so he'll have to keep playing well to keep his place. Robbie Cruze benefited hugely from a season in the 2nd tier.

It's a nice part of the world - nearest carmaker is Audi, rather than BMW, by the way.

Main problem I have is that my "bring on Marco" sign is going to look a bit silly at the Bayern-VfB match that I have tickets for!

Change it to "Bring Back Marco".

Marco's moving to a better team than VfB Stuttgart!

On recent form anyway.

http://int.soccerway.com/teams/germany/spvgg-greut...

Stuttgart lost in the Cup 2-0 away to Bochum last weekend.

Whereas SpVgg Greuther Fürth drew away to Bochum in their first league game three weeks ago.

And comfortably won their Cup tie last weekend 3-0.

SpVgg Greuther Fürth thrashed Nurnberg, newly relegated from the top flight, 5-1 eleven days ago.

Their pre-season form was pretty amazing too: in July they beat la Liga side Getafe 3-2 and top Russian sides Locomotive Moscow 2-0 and HK Rostov 2-1.

SpVgg Greuther Fürth only narrowly missed elevation to the Bundesliga in May, losing out on away goals to Hamburg (0-0 away and 1-1 at home).

Man, they're a young squad  - apart from a couple of veterans, mostly aged 18 - 24.

Strikers: five 22 year-olds, a 21 year-old and an 18 year-old

Marco will be the ninth 22 year-old in the squad!

They may have signed him to replace 22 year-old Kosovo international striker Ilir Azemi who was in a serious car accident a few weeks ago and was in intensive care, unlikely to play again for some time, if ever.

SpVgg Greuther Fürth have several players with 1.Bundesliga experience who didn't kick on at that level, including a few former German, Austrian and Polish youth internationals.

Nickname(s)
Kleeblätter (Cloverleaves)

Three time German champions: 1912, 1926, 1929

Intertoto Cup winners 1969

Stadium: Trolli Arena cap. 18,500

On this dodgy logic you make them sound like the European version of ACFC.

Well, lets see how Stuttgart go in the Bundesliga starting this weekend.

Their re-appointing Veh as manager, who brought them the title in 2007 is a good move.

Very hard to say if the squad is good enough. Anyone's guess...

It's possible that Stuttgart will get relegated (though if they were going to, it would have been last season with what seemed a weaker squad than this season and managerial instability) and Greuther Furth promoted!

This wasn't far off happening last season.

Michael Burgess at the Herald has done some good work in today's piece on Marco  - maybe he follows this forum thread!

He has some good quotes from German journalists, Wynton Rufer etc. and has done his research on Greuther Furth:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/football-soccer/news/art...

Much better than what we normally get on NZ players overseas from our media.

Keep it up Mike!

I'm pretty sure I read on one of the German websites that he doesn't start training with Fürth until Monday.  So, porbably not.

Unfortunately, I think Marco has also faced the pent up frustration of Hudson over the Smith 12 month sabbatical. Whilst he said before that that was not on his watch (some baloney about his work visa), it was and now poor Marco appears the easiest target.

Still not a good look putting your new international boss's nose out of joint first gig.

I think these are two completely separate cases. Marcos club career is at the cross roads. One wrong move this year and he may end up back in the A league. He has just moved clubs, has always been available before, didn't climb on board the ship just before a world cup and hasn't said he is taking 12 months off. I wish we had him but can understand his logic. Smith I don't care about now as I think its all about planet smith.

Nothing in the rumour that he wanted to play CAM and didn't like the training facilities in Tashkent?

I support Marco (and his club) wanting to play in the 2.Bundesliga game which is scheduled for tomorrow morning NZT.

Seems Marco responded to Hudson that he wanted to play the game and arrive in Doha for the training camp a day or two late and Hudson rejected this. Marco would still have had several days training in Doha. No club would be happy at a player missing a league game for a friendly international a week away.

I'm with the Herald reporter on this one:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/football-soccer/news/art...

"Hudson's stance sets a strong precedent, but could also be construed as harsh. Rojas could still have taken part in at least five days of training before the international and Hudson's hard line runs the risk of ostracising a player the All Whites may look to build a team around for the next decade."

Yes, no way through the bot, I'm pretty sure my answer was right. The coach said at the press conference, a few days ago, that Marco is in good shape and fully pre season trained and will be definitely an alternative option for the starting eleven. Sounded all pretty good.

Cookie bear needs to calm down and let him go to Doha, missing the whole camp and game for 9 minutes is ridiculous but it isn't really Marco's fault either.

Whilst I'm happy to see him get some playing time, that 9 minutes would've been better spent queueing in a customs or boarder security line at one of Germany's International Airports.

Turned the game off after 70 minutes so missed the Marco cameo.

A few things I did notice from the 70min  I watched. Div 2 Bundisliga is really strong(as you would expect). Loads of good players...the
Furth attackers looked very skillful . The pace of this game was fast and furious....no tapping it around at the back. The players all were big and strong and the game was very physical. Furths first two goals were standard crosses from out wide and knocked in by a tall striker....third was a great free kick. Great atmosphere at the ground...a big very loud crowd.

It will be interesting how Marco copes with the physicality. If that game was anything like the rest of Div 2 then he will have to be very quick on his feet or he will get monstered. Kind of wish he had gone to Spain where his size and skill set might have suited better. Either that or the Netherlands....he would have been great there IMO

Anyone who saw even 5 mins of Bayer Leverkusen v Werder on Sommet this morning will realise Marco is going to have to raise his game to a whole new level to be able to perform in the Bundesliga. The pace and physicality is just ferocious.

Stuttgart - three games, no wins, one point, second-to-bottom in the Bundesliga and knocked out of the German Cup already.

If they don't win a game soon, you'd imagine the manager's position could become precarious.

Home to undefeated Hoffenheim next Saturday - even that won't be an easy fixture.

Then, it doesn't get any easier - away to Dortmund...

yes he has - and from what I have picked up from the Kleeblatt fan forum that is exactly what they expect - if there is no purchase option then they really see him as injury cover and don't want to have him dominate the first team only to leave at the end of the season.....

Cock

Then from Marco's standpoint, what's the use in going there??

I think that to use him as injury cover cause he may leave is just cutting off your nose to spite your face. If you are a coach, you want to get wins to stay employed. If Marco helps, you play him. This loan is going to backfire on Marco.

Stuttgart are in far too much trouble to worry about what is best for Marco and I don't get the impression Marco had much choice - a loan back to the A league would have been of greater value than this for his own development.

Let's hope he gets the chance he deserves - otherwise it is time to cut the loses and try another continental league....

Getting minutes off the bench is still better than what he got at Stuttgart. If he  plays well then he has to get an opportunity at some point.

Stuttgart getting relegated would possibly be the best thing that could happen for Marco - exodus of players, chance to establish himself in the first team, and they're big enough that they'd probably be back up in a season or two. Although, is he contracted for next year?
