Main chance to win after Wood was injured was lost when Brockie wasn't chosen to start..that attack was stunted and although there was some clever interchanges it really needed Brockie(putting aside his past international record). If Wood was up to coming on as sub then why didn't he start..then get subbed off?

Wee Mac was awesome..as was Reid.

Good result but highly unlikely to be enough..good for CV only.

Exactly. We don’t even have to win. A score draw sees us through.

um, only because it's half of the tie. Another draw will mean either we progress or at the very least it goes to extra time and penalties.in terms of results this isn't that different to if we won 2-1. We still go to Lima knowing a clean sheet or a score draw will see us through

How did Marinovic get back to claw that mistake off our line? Bloody fast sprint

It's fun and all that we finished 0-0 at home, but that's just not enough to get us to the world cup.

Thomas had a fab game. Great atmosphere, but my overall feeling are of disappointment post game.

With Wood not starting (and that wouldn't have been a decision made entirely by Hudson), playing Kosta and Rojas - players who like the ball at their feet and are not at all suited to long ball - can't really be called a negative tactic can it? Kosta was clean through on goal with the best chance of the first half too.

He certainly earned his pay check for that one....had to process it first then move!

And fluffed all his chances in the match, much as he did at the Nix. I'd have started Brocks in his place and use Kosta as his sub if it didn't work.

Trying not to be overly negative, but I think you're being unrealistic about our chances away. Well aware how a 2-leg match works.

We struggled for 70 not because we had 9 behind the ball, but because we had no striker capable of holding the ball up to play in a midfielder. Rojas was poor, Kosta was ineffectual given size difference. The decision to start those two up front was absolute nonsense. Given the plan was solid defence and hoof to try and play on the counter.

ì got the impression that with 15 mins to go Peru were satisfied with draw. Goalie seem to be happy taking his time to restart games. They parked themselves in nz half for most of game but failed to get the final pass right

I agree that a bigger strker would have helped and if Wood wasn't up to it (and he seemed fine when he came on so who knows) I would have gone for Brockie or Smeltz. But regardless, I think we were always playing for a clean sheet first and any sort of goal second. And I think any coach looking at those teams lining up would have thought the same thing. Now we have an advantage interms of more match results favouring us than Peru. Yes, it's going to be brutal trying to win there but if we'd played more expansively and lost or even drawn with goals we'd be needing more in Peru. We're still underdogs but the odds just shortened considerably.

All that aside, a draw against the 5th best team in CONMEBOL in a competitive fixture is a huge result for the AWs even if we get dicked after this.

I don't know about Kosta getting a 7 while Rojas gets a 6. Did he actually do anything? I'd swap their scores personally.

Also can someone explain to me why Wood didn't start? There was some niggle right? We didn't just not start him for no reason right because we could have won that game with Wood playing for 90 minutes.

Heaven knows I'm miserable now

Good result but so few chances for the AWs was a bit disappointing.

Of course if they win 0-1 on Wednesday then it’ll all have been worth it!

Tight hamstring after training.  Kept him in cotton wool for the game in Lima which will be harder - there was no point injuring him today.

You could see that Reid and Smith were bearing the brunt of exertion today.

Them or us Steve-O?  All it takes is the result above for Peru to go through.  Would have been great had we won today.  Shades of 2010 again.

fantastic result against a team ranked 110 times more than us. Imagine the pressure of on Peru in Lima! They seemed a fair bit rattled  the we weren't a walkover. Who would want to be in their shoes now? It's all possible now!

Peru players looked gutted after the game, almost in a state of disbelief... that's got to take a toll on them mentally, not to mention I am sure there will be a few home papers asking what we went wrong.

Due to the away goal rule I expect them to be a little cagey, the last thing they will want to do is find themselves 1 - 0 down... a little like we were at the start. Only difference been, the longer it goes on the better we will feel and the worse they will.

Excited for Thursday. Just hope everyone pulls up ok and good to play.

The reffing in the last 20-30 mins of this game was appalling. The card on Boxall and when our keeper was pushed aside were clearly incorrectly called. It's strange the reffing was positive for most of the game and then fell apart at the end.

With a fair sail and Wood starting and lasting 90' in good shape there is definately the chance of a goal from us in Lima.  And, the way we defended, that will have Peru very worried.

I don't think they expected to leave NZ with just a 0-0 result.  They are good enough to run away with it yet at home, if they can get a goal ahead, but the door's ajar.

That was a very organised and committed team performance.  Not flashy.  Not always the most skillful in parts, particularly going forward.  But hard to break down with just what Peru showed, and enough there to potentially do some damage.

Odds still with them, but game on.  And much closer than I thought this might be.  We are a very awkward match up for them; an athletic, disciplined, physical, organised side with some real threats.

was it? Watched the game on a stream, so the quality isn't great but the crowd seem very nervous and quiet through most of the game. There seemed to be a few "All Whites, clap clap clap" chants but not much else. Maybe it is the rose coloured memories but yesterday seemed well down on the Bahrain game.

Has there been any quotes from Hudson about Wood? I know that I am only reiterating what everyone else in this thread has said, but the difference when he was on was monumental

They were probably expecting to score at least one given the amount of ball in nz half they had. They also seemed to want to walk the ball into the net instead of shooting the ball

I can honestly say I did not hear the nz fans much if at all. I was kinda at other end of field near the Peru zone. The noise level did rise in last 10 but seemed almost non existent for the first 80

The crowd was very quiet, and it wasn't just the stream since I could hear the chants at kick off and anthem.

I thought the same. My stream consisted of Skype + Skygo + screensharing, so the quality wasn't the best, but apart from a few chants of All Whites not much crowd noise came through. The white out looked great though and there seemed to be a lot of red scattered around. Seriously jealous of everyone there.

Humming where i was but probably not most of the stadium admittedly. Peruvians were fantastic though, some of the greatest fans in the world. Friendly, loud and passionate

They took half a dozen shots from outside the box. They shot poorly when had good chances, shot when they shouldn't have, and sometimes should've shot but didn't. They didn't look like they wanted to walk the ball into the net, but weren't always sure how to get it in the net.
