5 years of being a resident

How do you know he is a Resident here? Could be on a work visa.

Regardless, until he has a NZ passport, he can't represent NZ.

As per the above, an ausi citizen becomes a resident of nz, when he walks into the country. There is no need to get work visas of nz for our ausi cobblers.

After 5 years of being a resident here he can apply for his citizenship

Thought I heard the Fox commentators say on the weekend during the Central Coast- Newcastle game on the tele, that the All Whites are playing Norway during the next FIFA International window in February.

This was in the context of them discussing Central Coast manager Graham Arnold having said he won't release Michael McGlinchey for that game due to already losing three players to the Olyroos at that time.

Jeez, that's a lot of info right there that we don't have here in NZ.
Anyone know if that's factual?

Clubs can't not release players if they are called up for their national team if the game is played in the FIFA international window (they could ostensibly fake an injury, but the NZF would have the option of having their own medical professional ascertain the nature of the injury, or authorise one to do so).

As for the Norway game, hadn't heard that before, the talk was about playing Canada next month, but nothing was officially confirmed.

Yea I picked up on that one too !!

If 2ndBest has got it right then there is only a mandatory 48 hr release window which is near impossible if the game is to be played in London

From the FIFA regulations:

4. Players must also be released for the period of preparation before the match,
which is laid down as follows:
a) friendly matches: 48 hours;
b) qualifying matches for an international tournament:
 four days (including the day of the match). The release period
shall be extended to ?ve days if the match concerned is held in
a different confederation to the one in which the players club is
registered;
 prior to double-dates (Friday Tuesday) listed in the coordinated
international match calendar, the release period shall in any case
be ?ve days prior to the beginning of the time span ?xed by the
calendar (including the relevant Friday);
c) qualifying matches for an international tournament that are staged on a
date reserved for friendly matches: 48 hours;
d) friendly matches that are staged on a date reserved for qualifying
matches for an international tournament: 48 hours;
e) the ?nal competition of an international tournament: 14 days before
the ?rst match in the competition.
Players shall join the association team no later than 48 hours before kick-off.el grapadura2012-01-17 16:30:11

So in reality they have to be released for 48 hours. Given travel, Surely a North American game would be the best option
Permalink Permalink

No, they have to be released for a "period of preparation before the match", which for friendly games is 48 hours prior to the start of the game.
Permalink Permalink
about 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Yeah got that but to travel to Oslo? (if that is the case) probably 30+ of the 48 hours taken up in travel, not great use of time I would have thought
Permalink Permalink
about 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Actually, just checked and I hadn't posted the entire clause - the end of the clause states that "players shall join the national team no later than 48 hours before kick-off".

So guess that means that travel time is not counted for the 48 hours preparation period.

Ohh ok that puts a differnt perspective to it.

Guess pretty well anywhere is ok on that basis

Updated the original post citing the entire clause so people don't think I'm talking out of my arse.

Also, this is what is says about the players returning to clubs from international duty:

7. Players complying with a call-up from their association under the terms of
this article shall resume duty with their clubs no later than 24 hours after the
end of the match for which they were called up. This period shall be extended
to 48 hours if the match concerned took place in a different confederation
to the one in which the players club is registered. Clubs shall be informed in
writing of a players outbound and return schedule ten days before the match.
Associations shall ensure that players are able to return to their clubs on time
after the match.

All Whites vs Jamaica  Yeesssss  !!

The president of the Jamaican Football Federation has announced the Reggae Boyz are coming to Auckland to play an international friendly on February 29th.

The fixture is also listed on FIFA's website.

New Zealand Football had been looking at playing in Europe during the international window in late February and has yet to confirm the fixture.

Jamaica's ranked 52nd by FIFA, 66 places ahead of the All Whites.

boom- will be a good match - good challenge.

Wonder if the likes of Reid & Smith will be wanting to come over from England and risk losing their spot?

Do we have any suspensions?

Reality for the boys in the Northern Hemisphere

A full round of Championship games on the 25th Feb and 3rd March

   Play Club     Leave UK      Arrive NZ           Play          Leave NZ      Arrive UK     Play Club

      25th------------26------------28--------------29-------------1----------------2--------------3

To arrive 48 hrs before the game on Wed they would need to miss their club game on the 25th

Anyone who has done a bit of long haul knows that schedule is a massive ask.

I say Jamaica on Waitangi day, seeing as how that's also Bob Marley's birthday. Get Katchafire or someone similar to play a gig before hand and bring in that Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party demographic

Instead of a Go West theme to to get people to stand up, you could go with the much simpler "Get up, Stand up" from Bob Marley.

Get up, stand up
Stand up for All Whites...

Get up stand up
Stand up For All Whites...

etc etc

Easy!

Contemplating two options - was thinking of taking a holiday in February, so could try to incorporate this with it. Or alternatively just fly up Wednesday and come back Thursday. Have to check.
