Instead of a Go West theme to to get people to stand up, you could go with the much simpler "Get up, Stand up" from Bob Marley.

Get up, stand up
Stand up for All Whites...

Get up stand up
Stand up For All Whites...

etc etc

Easy!

Unsure what it is based on but Radio Live and ZB both reporting on 1pm news that the game is "expected to be played at North Harbour Stadium or Mount Smart".

Not unlikely but sounds pretty speculative

Whats the likely team considering how tough it will be to get the Kiwi UK guys out here.

A more localised team with Rickie favourite 343 formation

  Siggy  Boxall   Winston/Smith

Leo  WeeMac  Brown  Locky

Would rather see Brockie in midfield instead of Locky to be honest, dudes currently playing some of the sh*ttest football ive seen from him

NZ vs South Africa one-dayer at Eden Park on Saturday March 3rd, so would imagine they'd want more than 2 days to get the field ready for that.

The grounds staff at ROF can go from cricket to football in a matter of hours

Mon Feb 27 - New Order @ Vector Arena
Tues Feb 28 - Black Lips @ Powerstation
Wed Feb 29 - All Whites vs Jamaica

That would be a cool trip. But is it worth taking 3 or 4 days annual leave and spending $500+? Not to mention getting a leave pass from Mrs X.

Time will tell.

I'm sick to death of that 3-4-3 formation. We should play a 4-3-3, or anything really as long as its got 4 at the back.

edit* because none of our players are actually wingbacks

I think the Warriors play on the Sunday at Eden Park as well? They are doing a combined Warriors/Black Caps deal.

Chucking in the All Whites 3-days prior might be a bit rough.

Mmmmmmm, a mid week game at north harbour or mt smart is at best going to disappoint and at worst it will be an unmitigated disaster.

NZ soccer has stuffed this up well and truely

Auckland will rise once more

Out of their hands really isn't it, FIFA window is midweek.

We (you as I'm in the UK and gutted the Canada game fell through) should be very lucky the AWs are playing anyone decent at home, it so rearly happens.

Also AKL is close to Hamilton and Tauranga/Mt so the chance of a decent turnup crowd for this part of NZ is better then say Weli, CHC or Dunners population wise.
Supporter world's best and worst football teams: Waikato/WaiBop, Kingz, Knights, Phoenix, The Argyle, The Whites & the All Whites

Yes, oh great and wise AP, just what should they have done?

I'm going to put it out there that a midweek game at NHS is significantly > than no game at all.

Hang on, that can't be right, if that's the case then what is there left to complain about? If we can't complain about something, then what ever shall we do?

News, relax

they probably should have chosen a more compatible window which gave enough room for a saturday game and a venue at the garden of Eden

But then you run into a difficulty of finding the opposition since two-game windows are used for competitive matches (i.e. qualifying games).

And I'm going to put it out there that this game is going to cost nz future games ( yes that will include Wellington). Nz football are the first to start whinging how they have to be careful with their pennies and what do they do but choose a dumb window, a terrible day and potentially an atrocious venue. Afterwards when they get a sh*te crowd everyone will blame Auckland and not the organizers.

NZ football will then say we will have to give serious thought to having games in NZ like this again and as a whole this country will have fewer matches

Something I think you don't want hard news. I don't anyway AucklandPhoenix2012-01-21 15:00:14

You honestly think that? The All Whites haven't played in NZ for 16 months, how can you have fewer matches than that?
Permalink Permalink

El grape, I take your point and trust me that I want to see the all whites play in this country all the time.

If NZ football are however going to harp on about their pennies and say these games need to break even however then this really pisses me off

If they are going to do it they need to do it right AucklandPhoenix2012-01-21 15:06:41

Well, rather than pointing the finger at NZF, the emphasis should be on the football fans in this country. We all say we want to see the All Whites play good opposition here in NZ, so there's no excuses when we get just such an opportunity. Time for the fans to put their money where their mouths are. Because, ultimately, if people aren't willing to come and watch the All Whites play here on the rare occasions that they do, what incentive does the NZF have to keep scheduling such games?
Permalink Permalink
about 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Call me stupid but had this game been scheduled in Wellington I would have my flighd already. I just have a phobia of travelling to Auckland for such games.

Look at how many Wellington based fans already have plans. Yet I get the feeling Auckland based supporters aren't as prepared to travel (perhaps not even as far as Hamilton) for games.

Ok I'm generalising and I'm probably wrong. But just saying. Not sure why. But there you go.

I struggle to understand how anyone can claim that this game is bad news. Of course it isn't perfect, especially for Wellingtonians, but how anyone can say it is actually worse than nothing is beyond me.

Heck of a assumption. I'm pretty sure NZF aren't COMPLETELY ignorant to the risks involved. After all, they completely buggered up a midweek match against Vanuatu in Wellington a few years ago. Hopefully they've learned from it and will take steps to maximise attendance. It's up to the supporters to come to the stadium. I'm sure NZF would take the midweek context into account before calling the match a success or failure, rather than ignoring the recent success Auckland has shown (Nix, Honduras) and writing off the entire country as a result.

As for the venue - if Eden Park is unavailable, you can't blame them for playing somewhere else. I do agree that NHS is a terrible option for a midweek match, but Mount Smart should be fine.

In all fairness, the Phoenix pre-season match against Brisbane in Hamilton did have a significant amount of Aucklanders who made the trip. And there were Aucklanders at the Bahrain match.

Well I would say they are ignorant. It's not just about the football fan who would go to the match regardless of the day/venue/time/opposition.

It's about the wife/partner/girlfriend who would have came along to Eden park on a Saturday arvo for the occasion But sure as hell will not be driving over the harbour bridge to Albany on a wednesday after work (or for that matter south Auckland).

Its also about the nix fanatic in Wellington who would have came to Auckland for a saturday game but willl not for a mid week game (el grape are you coming?)

If you are going to wait 16 months to do a game you sure as heck do it right

Do you think gareth would have done a mid week game at not harborut/ mt smart?
