Phoenix at 7. All Whites later on.

Could be an ugly football night

Permalink Permalink

will be interesting to see if we line up with a 4-3-3 and who slots in at left wing back. Tuiloma is listed as a MF and given Hudson wants a natural left footer unlikely to play at left wingback again.

The MF almost picks itself with Keat, Thomas and Wee Mac.

Personally I will be interested to see Rojas play as haven't been able to really guage where he has been for the last two years..

Wiki has the China squad and positions:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China_national_footba...

Goalkeepers:

Zeng Cheng

Wang Dalei

Yan Junling

Defenders:

Feng Xiaoting

Liu Jianye

Zhang Linpeng

Wu Xi

Li Xuepeng

Ren Hang

Mei Fang

Jiang Zhipeng

Rao Weihui

Lei Tenglong

Midfielders:

Zheng Zhi (captain)

Yu Hai

Hao Junmin

Yu Hanchao

Sun Ke

Wu Lei

Zhang Chengdong

Cai Huikang

Forwards:

Gao Lin

Han Peng

China has played a 4-2-3-1 for the last two matches (against Thailand and Paraguay)

Gao Lin and Zheng Zhi are the veterans of the team

CSL leading (Chinese) goal scorers are Wu Lei (attacking mid), Gao Lin and Yu Hanchao (left wing)

Here is a nice solo run from Yu Hanchao earlier this year (@4:35).http://video.sina.com.cn/p/sports/j/v/2014-04-06/2...

This is a slightly "older" team than the one that played NZ two years ago with an average age of 26, but many of the same players are still in the squad.

Centre-back Adam Mitchell from Wanderers SC added to replace Reid:

http://www.nzfootball.co.nz/index.php?id=11&tx_ttn...

Defenders (updated)

Michael Boxall
Deklan Wynne
Jesse Edge
James Musa
Storm Roux
Tommy Smith

Adam Mitchell

Guess Hudson will start with Roux at right-back, Smith and Boxall as centre-backs  - but who the hell will be at left-back?

Not Edge or Wynne surely?

Or will he go with three at the back - Smith, Boxall, Musa? With Roux and some other dude as wing-backs.

The midfield and striking options look okay - but, man that defence doesn't inspire confidence.

Possibly Musa. Should've selected Andrew Milne as JV suggested IMO. 22 yr-old ACFC Kiwi defender & player of year 2013 currently playing LB, ex Glasgow Rangers yoof, NZ age groups up to U-23, O-League, World Club Cup.....

What about Ian Hogg? Isn't he playing for Amicale in the OCL or something now? Didn't look completely useless previously for the AWs

If we lined up 4231 we could could stick Rojas Thomas Barbar in behind Wood and give them free roam to swap as they please, this would mess opposition marking/defending right up as they would never know which player is going to be coming at them from which spot? Very hard to pick up on player tenanciesas a defender if the attacker you are up against is switching every couple of minutes

If he were playing in the A-League then yeah, it would be. IMO a 'semi pro' (lets be honest - amateur) footballer cant really whinge about not making a National squad.

Why isn't he playing A-League anyway ? Aussie passport holder as well, correct? Must just not be good enough.

but isn't Musa and Adam Mitchell (who are in the squad) playing in effectively a lower level than Eager - kind of blunts that arguement. . I'm not pro (or against) Eager but it does seem strange to not give a the guy a look in with so many frontliners out. . EDIT: That said I am happy Hudson is looking at the young guys and blooding them now and seeing what they can do before we get to the WCQ and discover we have no depth - now is the time to be trying players!

Agree with this. I think that Hudson seems to have narrowed his focus on players that are 'in the system' which is why he is grabbing them from the u20s. There are probably as good a footballers about in the ASBP whom are not in the system and I used Milne as an example and Eager is another. The boy at WSW is another too. Like you say though, now is the time to try them.

Doesn't Musa play for the same team as Eager when he isn't playing for TeeDubs?

And don't South Melbourne supporters rate Eagar as a better player than Musa?

Note, the spelling is "Eagar"

Play Musa CB and push smith to LB potentially.

If we are more worried about our flanks than the centre, then perhaps this is the way to go. Give Edge or Musa a run.

That is a good point. I can only assume that because Aussie has a pro league, anything below that is deemed shite by the old heads at NZF and not worth looking into. He probably should be looked at to be fair.

Where does Eagar play for South Melbourne? Eagar is a better defensive midfielder than defender IMO. Musa is probably a better defender than Eagar. I would like to see Eagar given a chance as a DM because Tuiloma hasn't convinced me yet.
