Payne, Kosta, Smith are very early in pre-season - they should all get better as the season approaches

I hope Billy T has just put on some extra muscle though it doesn't look like it. I know he hasn't played much for 2 months but you'd think he should be fit since he's still training. We are looking pretty woeful. Bad at the back and beaten in the MF. Garbett, Barba and Wood have been nowhere to be seen either, though it's a tough game to show your worth in an attacking sense.
My only solace is here is that this kind of ass whopping is necessary if you want to develop as a team. The question is, will Baze and the players be good enough to learn and actually improve from this?
No way we could compete today, looking at the pedigree of the players involved. But if we want to stop playing the Island teams, there's going to be a steep learning curve.

Why can’t we have midfielders who can control the ball in tight areas and value possession and play with attacking intent like the Mexicans. In 70mins of football I don’t recall Wood receiving one quality ball. We desperately need a match fit Singh to create those chances otherwise we will only ever be a team who scores from set pieces.
While part of the blame does fall on the players it doesn’t look like we’ve improved at all over his tenure. He’s not getting the best out of the players and keeps saying the same excuses after every match.

we had better options than him, Ufuk and Buckingham, that we let slip because we thought we'd signed Herdman. we didn't even give Ufuk the basic courtesy of a call from memory.
If NZF had been less naive we'd have a better coach and if we decided to go back and do another international search instead of settling on Bazely then who knows what options we'd have.
Honestly, we need innovation. I don't care for credentials. Like are there no former players from overseas looking to have a shot at coaching. We need someone with some overseas perspective that can give a new dimension to this team. If we keeping looking for homegrown coaches we'll keep pigeon holing our philosophy to this oceanic style that we play that's outdated and utterly trash. We're just missing out on things we aren't exposed to and that's why we can only play wellish against Vanuatu.
