too excited to concentrate on work. Hope Reid and McGlinchey get put on.

Also, for anyone overseas or stranded without Sky you'll find some links on myp2p to watch the game live

Because Paul Thompson has never rated Ricki, considers him "timid", and in late 2009 was talking about how the Phoenix were going to be wooden spooners because of Ricki's lack of boldness and attacking verve. He only ate his words grudgingly a few months ago.

Tl;dr - prejudiced blogger = negative prick.

What I'm frankly more worried about is all these backdoor shenanigans that Chris Rattue seems to have heard of.Doloras2010-05-24 11:59:34

Hopefully Rukyavitzya (Sp?) gets a run as well.

If McGlinchey wins a header tonight I'll consider the game a success.  Tbh, I don't think we'll win but we are more than capable of snatching something.  Really looking forward to this.

Tonight is when I officially start concentrating on WC stuff (on iraqgoals or whatever).

Apparently there is a game somewhere in Oz between Rory and the Socceroos?

Thats what I don't get though - he is playing 3-4-3 (5-2-3) FFS. How is playing something incredibly different to everyone else considered 'timid'? In every article he writes he seems to take potshots at Ricki. And what is with the "possibly lacklustre" team comment?

It's "timid" because Ricki played like that against Bahrain and doesn't like to mess with success. At the time, the chorus of "experts" said it was crazy and we'd lose for sure. When we didn't, this was proof that Bahrain was a crap team and the Ngaruawahia Reserves could have beaten them, etc. "Timid" in this context means "Ricki won't listen to what we, THE EXPERTS, have to say".

Paul Thompson is an ex-player, and like many so-called "football insiders", he's an excellent armchair coach, continually convinced that whoever's in charge is a shower of incompetents and only he knows best.

Has anyone noted their distinct lack of a in form striker?  Scott McDonald has been out with injury, and I'm not sure if he's really the sort of guy you'd play as a loan striker ...

Yeah, but to be honest Cahill is two players in one and effectively a second striker...

As cultured as Che Bunce's left foot and as profilic as John Lammers

I would be worried about Cahill. Our 3cb will effectively marking 1 player, giving Australia a 1 man advantage in midfield and that man being Cahill

Cahill had an awesome finish to the season as well.

Can someone plese post up a radio link later. I have work (live in Dubai) and wont make it home to watch the game.

Cheers

Must admit the Oz midfield looks powerful.....and then having Cahill tucked in behind the striker.!!!!
Brown and Elliot will have to be on top of their game tonight. They are both short of a run so I would expect them to be subbed off second half. this game will be lost or won in the midfield.

Siggy looked well short of a run against the NZ B team. I would have prefered to see Reid in there. He has been playing at a good level and has recent match play.

I sure hope Reid, Wood and wee mac get significant match time.

I'm really pumped for this. All the publicity and photo opps are finished.....we finally get a real match....GO THE ALL WHITES!!!!!!
