Well done UAE, you hopefully have sent a strong message to the All Whites

Well, that was depressing

If we play like that in the away leg in November and we get some Wellington weather for the home leg I imagine it could be the emptiest sold out stadium you'll see in a while

Think the problem is that we aren't good enough to retain possession and allow our RB and LR to push on. Lose possession and we get caught out.

Second goal highlighted that. People may blame Leo and/or Reid. But Kosta coughed up possession in the middle third.

He had 3 on him and no support. No wonder. Leo was getting forward for no reason there

Yeah...after he had take 3 touches into danger. Given someone 5 metres with the ball and they should be able to retain it.

First touch. At least two options

At least one option.

Pleased you made the effort. Prob there really was Bertos getting so far forward for no reason

on this evidence, i'd play 2 holders - durante and ivan

i know it's not pretty, but means to an end for now

back 4 needs to play higher

wide 2 need to play deeper and transition forward quicker

If you don't go forward when your team has the ball, then when do you?

You'd still play Durante at DM? Have these two games not convinced you otherwise?

Has his clearance even come through yet. Down to approx 2 months to go. Anyone else getting nervous about that?

nope.  however, the space around him needs to be addressed. and he needs to just play short.

oh no. That's was definitely intentional. Don't justify it because he is a skill less hack. That's exactly what he does. Seen Patricks avatar???
I'd also like to add in the incident with Adrian Leijer.

in nz we don't coach transition and this was awful transition play.  wing back runs are difficult to time.  leo went too early and was caught out by a rapid transition.  fault definitely lies at his feet, although we need to cut him some slack because there's a good chance he's never been taught.

agree

it's too late for him to get his head sorted, so personally, i'd have him no where near a team that i support

Just as well Westpac sold out before people see how good Ricki's AW's 2013 are! That was like watching the Nix last season....

Ricki was stuffing a burger in his face while watching Leo cross the ball out of the stadium twice in a minute and did not react. Most international coaches would have hooked him off. That is the first time I have ever seen a coach eating during a game...LOL!!!!!

Siggy is a thug....as he has got older and slower he seems to get more thugish. If that was a proper FIFA game he would be up for a long ban. That was terrible two footed stomp.

Really depressed about our chances.....forget Mexico....unless we improve all over the park any side in CONCACAF would beat us!

Our defensive shape doesn't seem too horrible. Just need a mid who is hungry to get on the ball. Oh and a lot more talent

Beside his attitude I would `play Sigmund ,  the problem is left back position , needs to try Hogg or Smith with  Durante or vicellich next to Reid.  or Boxall.

In midfield  it could be McGlinchey with James, Keat or Clapham in central midfield  or Payne but he is better on the sides leflt of right..  I didnt like Howieson, his dead ball in set pieces were atrocious bar one that hit the bar, he is too young only as an impact player like vs saudis..  Brockie on the right or  Bertos, and Rojas on the left or maybe Craig Henderson

Barbarouses and Wooed were outplayed and non-existent.  Bright at least tried, try Fallon next game or Smeltz

i really do think we need to go down JD's path and play 4 centre backs at the back with smith at left back.  i placed durante in midfield in an earlier post, i think i'd rather be better to put him at right back

Based on the crap we ain't got a shit show in hell of getting to Brazil next year.  Durante is no midfielder, the Sea Monster is out off control and Ricki knows he's boned after Wellington.

OMG - brings back Phoenix nightmares - only option, as many of us have pleaded for - is for Herbert to be given overseas technical help.

Otherwise there's no chance he can bring a manageable scoreline home for the second leg.

To think I missed some valuable early morning work time to watch that! Geez.

We were a couple of levels below UAE and they literally rang rings around us while we were a bunch of donkeys. If we are going to put up a team for the big comps we have to acknowledge our individual skill limitations and try to work hard on getting good combinations - that requires a team that gets a LOT OF GAMES together. But EVERY TIME its the same thing - ridiculous build ups of cobbled together teams with practically no game time. Honestly - we don't stand a chance in these play-offs or any others if we don't figure that out. We can hope for a miracle with a large amount of luck involved - but really who would give us a hope.

The only thing we could hope for is some Central American drugs cartel bets against their team (based on the huges odds we'll be on)and makes arrangements for a suitable result....

Failing that all i can hope for is that it lulls whoever we are playing in the big games to send their grandmothers to play us. Perhaps their half blind grandmothers....

Would you risk playing Sigmund in a vital match after that? Could you risk being down to 10 men? That stomping is one of the worst things I have ever seen at a sports match. Bloody embarrassing and stupendoulsy idiotic. It will end up on one of those videos of 'worst fouls in football'.

Pity most of the sellout Wn crowd have no idea how appalling this outfit is right now under Herbert, and has been since the Oceania fiasco. Will be a real bad year for AW's if NZF don't do something about it now.

Dear oh Dear what a pathetic performance. Clearly the experiment with Dura in defensive midfield needs to end now. The rest of this team clearly didnt have much idea about how to break the UAE down and there is a strong core of this team that needs to be cut now! and whilst this suggestion may not bode well for the world cup playoffs, the playoffs will be as far as we get on this current showing. Ricki has had his time and there is need for a change. Some of the work on the pitch by the players would have had other managers jumping up and down but not Ricki who appears to just accept what is going on. Is his position that safe?

They should have sacked him after honiara

I'm at a loss as to why our midfield and forward players spent so much time standing in positions BEHIND UAE players where they could not possibly receive a pass from one of our own team. So much of the time when we did have the ball the passing options consisted of no-pass, or miracle-pass-required because an All White's player would not move into space to make themselves available to receive.

I think that with our geographic isolation and lack of funds we are always going to have to accept that our preparation for major matches will be less than whoever we are playing, so we need a coach with a clear idea of how he wants the team to play and the ability to communicate that to his players. As much as I don't like the 3-4-3, at least Ricki knows what he wants from it. This 4-2-3-1 would could work I think, but Ricki didn't know how he wanted from it.

Do we sit back and trying to hit them on the break? Are our fullbacks overlapping and crossing while the defensive mids cover the space they've vacated? do we try to hit our big striker with long balls? Do we want our striker to hold the ball up and bring others into play or break quickly and try to get behind the defence? Are we pushing high and trying to play through the middle? Do the wide attacking players play as traditional wingers or drift inside?

On the basis of today's performance it seemed like he told each player their nominal position and left them to figure out the rest.
