AJ it was a bad stomp. You may have not said it was a good one, but to say it was not as bad as made out to be... Yes it was. Those things break legs, blow out knees, destroy careers. What would you say if that guy had broken a femur, dislocated his knee and snapped his ACL with that one? Just because he was lucky he didn't, does not mean its not bad.

I suppose a different question is how would you feel if that was one of their players doing that on top of one of ours. This place would be full of red mist over it calling it a disgrace. Just cause he wears a white shirt, don't talk it down. It was dirty and disgraceful.

Actually just watched the highlights again. Sigmund did not go check on the player. He was not apologetic at all. He was pissed cause he got caught being a dirty cunt.

                         mc glinchey

The fact that youre comparing payne to rojas is laughable. Please just leave. Permanantly.

hhahahhaha,  that was the most idiotic comment i ve ever read, what are you,  Denmark?  that banned their best player for the national team, and now they are not making it to Brazil, hahhaha.. The are 4th comfortable in their group.

If you've  ever played football you can understand Sigmund's attitude, it is hard to get waltzed by a group of unknowns that play their pro football in UEA, a country that is plugging tons of money in football without any sort of success.  At least he has pride and guts, at one point they were mocking, I understand Sigmund,  As I said before,  the number#10 once you know he is good, you just stomp him, foul is part of the game !!!

I prefer a player that makes a mistake like him, that any other that doesnt care, it was a friendly , no more.  Sigmund abides!!

You dont stomp a guy Javier. Your attitude is mental. Go away

That is intimidation, what do you think that central defensive mids, from Brazil, Germany etc do to the best rival players.  Wake up !!  This is football, everything is legal unless the referee sees it.  Wake up, that is what the real game is all about, no playstation tiki-taka

Youve said some stupid shit but this...wow

Watch closely a game of Germany, the Dutch or Brazil, and try to analize the movements and fouls that their central midfielders, or central backs concede during that game, pay close attention to that fact, and then learn how to read the beautiful game.
Have you ever heard the term "tactic foul" in football?
I wouldnt congratulate Sigmund for his violent behaviour but I can understand him, because I've played the game
Everything you have ever said has been completely invalidated by your opinion on this.

Its obvious from your broken English, that you are not a Kiwi (or a native Kiwi) but here is a tip for you. One thing Kiwis can tolerate is mistakes. Had he kicked him as part of the game, well fair enough, thats a foul and it happens. One thing they cannot tolerate is dirty play. That kind of thing may well be common place where you come from but in NZ, we put in our fair effort and expect others to play hard and do the same. We NEVER condone dirty play or cheating. That was DIRTY and not how Kiwis play or represent themselves in any arena. Respect and credibility are everything, even if we lose because we chose to take the high ground. No one like a dirty cunt or a cheat.

If the above is your attitude, go find another forum.

What a load of sanctimonious bullshit.

Kiwis have, and do, love a dirty player. Richard Lowe, Sean Fitzpatrick, Richie McCaw. All national icons who have a cheating streak. Some of our '82 All White heros were far from saint like, and more locally players like Manny Muscat are applauded for their "no-nonsense" attitude.

So jump down off your high horse aye.

On this specific issue, I know Ben pretty well and I don't for one second think he thought to himself "I know, I'll jump up and land on this guy and really fk him up." It does look pretty bad on replay, but I'm still going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

It is an elaborate and cunning plan by RH, this is to give the opposition, whoever we will be playing to give them a false sense of security, then we will blow them off the pitch, as I grab another can of TUI  !!!!!!!

Completely agree. I seriously doubt he had any real intent to injure or perhaps even land on him. Watching it live I certainly thought he had tried to jump over and got tangled but the replays certainly imply a pretty different story.

He lands heavily on a grounded player with full studs - one on the thigh and the other across the shin. It's just very lucky there wasn't anything broken there cos it easily could have been pretty serious (for either of them to be honest). Ignoring malice intent I think the reality of how it ended would justify a ban. Clumsy, frustrated, angry, unlucky - whatever it was you stomp a grounded player two footed like that you shouldn't be complaining when you cop a few matches in the stands.

But I believe it wouldn't affect him for the WCQ anyway as it would only be served in friendlies correct?

Back at you because you've just exposed all your own bullshit defense. This is not the first time we have clashed because of something said about a player you know well. Funny how because you know them well, everyone else must be wrong.

I'm on record as not being a fan of Sigmund but I gave him props for the first game he played at RB so I can admit when he does play well. This however......

I disagree with your summation of heroes. No one likes Loe and as for McCaw and Fitzpatrick, well I'll leave that for others to judge. I'm not a particular fan of Fitzpatrick but I don't see McCaw stomping/clawing each week. Usually more on the receiving end of dirty play but then I must be imagining those boos of Quade Cooper.

This is not a once off isolated incident by Sigmund and Manny gets the exact same stick when he does it as well so as for trying to defend Ben, Get real. Manny and Sigmund might get applauded for being no nonsense hard men but that's not the same as being a dirty thug. An example might be Kevin Campion, who was a hard man, but he was not a thug. Note the difference.

I'll stay up here on my high horse. I say again, if that was one of our players on the ground would you have the same attitude? Smithy go and take your rose coloured friend glasses off. If it was an accident, he would have been right over to check if the guy was ok. Go watch the replay.

I always wonder how calm Ricki sits on the bench, sipping on his water after each goal, instead of trying to help the boys on the pitch. I'm missing the passion.

Must have hit a nerve there cause that's the kind of thing I would write so I can only laugh actually.

Smithy you can say what you like cause you have all the power on this forum. I don't really care that no one agrees with me, but you've got to come with a strong argument to shoot me down because I can defend mine. I'm also quite at ease with exposing my own biases. 'He's a mate' is a pretty thin excuse if you ask me. I don't see any others going 'It's ok guys cause Smithy knows him.'

You keep defending him cause he is a mate, and I'll keep thinking he is an idiot. I'm sure that we will co-exist just fine and that will probably be the end of this little tete-a-tete.

Its funny you mention the Chris Wood thing. A mate of mine mentioned it as well. I didn't really see it the first time around but there is no need for that stuff. I recall Winston this morning where he was giving the striker the glare when he fell over. The ball was still in play about 5 feet from him, and he was more worried about giving the guy on the ground the glare? That I thought was really odd. Why would you not focus on playing the ball first???

In my heart of hearts, I've looked and looked at the incident hoping to find some straw to grasp "he didn't mean it" "he fell on him" "he tried to step over him but didn't quite make it" but.... this was blatant and a definite brain explosion by Siggy, something he has history for. His actions are being condemmed and rightly so in my opinion, it was just senseless.

Remind me again why McGaw has been mentioned in the same breath as Loe.Cant agree with some of your sentiments about dirty players Smithy, have some good mates who are oval ball nuts and while they might admire a hard player as far as im aware none of them like a dirty player and would have thought this applied to most Kiwis. Still dont understand how some people can even attempt to justify what Sigmund did,and i couldnt give a stuff if he is your best mate. Its not as if its the first time he has had what can be termed a brain explosion.

Can only imagine what it would be like if he does something in the qualifiers that costs us big time.Just for the record im not a Siggy hater and enjoy the passion he brings to his game, but just wish he would lose the red mist moments.

I guess the next question is what kind of punishment he will get. That will be violent conduct and that usually gets you 3 games. The fine may not be pleasant. I'm trying to recall where I got the info from but I believe its $5k for a yellow.... That may only be at tournaments. I guess when you look at Moss' suspension 4 years ago and it was only for WC games, you would think Sigmunds would only be friendlies so that would rule him out of October window.

The only way it could have been worse was if was in the nuts or on his head. Sorry, I believe a two footed stomp, that was in my opinion done with all the intent in the world, whether he is a good guy or not, is a bad stomp. No degrees to the issue.
Sure the guy was not carted away with a broken leg or fucked knee, so the result was not as bad as it could have been but that should not be confused with the intent

I don't think you can look at outcomes. If I punch you as hard as I can, and you laugh it off with a 'is that all you got little man' (which is highly likely cause I punch like a girl) does that mean the punch means nothing? I'm not saying that he punched the guy but again, the outcome of the player that has been fouled/attacked/whatever should not defuse the intent of what happened.

There are guys that get seriously injured in legitmate tackles. Because of the outcome, does that mean that the player who committed the tackle should be sent off? I'm not quite sure where I am going with this but I guess a stomp is a stomp is a stomp regardless of what happens to the other guy.

Well this kind of behaviour is just not what i expected from the all whites. I'm just so  used to their technical ball skills and pacey runs, this violence is outrageous.

but in all seriousness, siggy has been shit the past year and a bit and it opens up the opportunity for a better player to get picked, so we don't have him as a back up of too shit tony and 'i think im still a winger, kosta cover me' bertos.
