This is just horrible at this international level with no clear tactical plan at all- look at the space in MF - why is Just and/or Mc Cowatt playing again?
that's what you get if you opt for cheap yes man coaches- complete nightmare- -playing wise not depending on result

We're trying to press and win the ball high, but Finland is doing well playing through pressure and making many transitional moments.

So elbowing soneone in the head a mile off the ball is a yellow? Surely either nothing or a red...

This lot play like the Phoenix.
Losing, and playing like they have all the time in the world.
Looking to pass and throw backwards at every opportunity.

I wasn't expecting us to win necessarily but I did not expect to see us being so aimless.

Why the heck did we pass it backwards on a rare attacking set piece opportunity? Stop standing around confused and shrugging and start playing some genuine football you clowns!

No more whinging about "the AW's never getting any coverage. And rugby getting all the air time." They come home once a year to shit the bed every time.

What should they have done? Lobbed it into the box? Try pass it to one of our further forward players where we are outnumbered 11 vs 8 and its all fairly static given they're waiting for the ref to restart the game?

All whites have been terrible. Very little to be positive about apart from Bayliss making his debut and an improvement after the subs. Constant back passing is nauseating.

We play like this on Monday and we'll lose 3-0 to a Chile team that came last in qualification.

Pretty embarrassing IMO.

Thought the 433 worked better. Just and Bayliss have the energy and athleticism to link play and Stamenic could dictate play at the base by himself. Randle and Old cutting and a bit pace were great. Will be interesting to see how we shift shape with not like for like subs, probably a 442.

Maybe we should try passing it to the guys waiting in the box

Well we all knew that was bound to happen.

Chile are going to rip us apart.

It's better but Belgium, Egypt and the third team we play won't be up by only 1 after 75-80 mins when NZ finally wakes up

Do something positive instead of being pathetically negative .

That negative mindset, the lack of initiative, variation and attacking intent highlights a lot that is wrong with modern football. It's 11 v 11, work out a way of attacking . Try, because if you don't try, you never will score. Positive things happen when you are positive.  Put the opposition under pressure  there sure as as hell aren't concerned when your centre half and goalkeeper has the ball all the time.

tbh the ref has let a bit slide but no excuses. the commentators need to go too.

I think this really shows the benefit of constant quality games throughout a players career. From an early age these fin fellas would be playing against other euro national teams, hardening them for international football. We just don't get that and it shows on a night like this. We are flat and disjointed while they can fit seamlessly together.

On our press, it's been frenetic without being effective. They regularly been able to find a pocket to move the ball to. I can't see Baze moving away from it so I hope there is a tweak in the pressing system to better close space or how the unit presses together.
I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

Things that aren't very good;
Ben Old
Tim Payne
Lachlan Bayliss (the only Australian to never see the Sun)
That ref
Goran Paladin

Looks like a bunch of headless chickens all game. Yes there are some positives but we really need to get results at this level. The amount of talent this team has compared to the Riki Herbert era is crazy yet they managed to grind out results and each player understood their roles. It’s like we’re lacking some glue in the team or some organisation. And honestly who picks a GK that isn’t starting for his club?

That AW team was setup in a way that asked questions of the opposition that they weren't used to. Our current squad is best to try and play a way that other teams come up against more often.

I reckon 90% of Croc's balls pumped forward lead to nothing. Looking forward to Paulsen getting a run.

Overall a really poor team performance. Will cut them some slack as due to the wet Auckland weather this week they only had one training session on the grass.
But man they need to be sooo much better against Chile.

Need to stop playing games at EP (after Chile). The ground is cursed.

Ignoring those Aussie games which akin to the Blackcaps there's some mental blockage there meaning we never seem to be able to show up for. The yarn ever since the post-covid era revival of the AW's was we have an abundance of players, playing in higher quality leagues. Those drubbings against Sweden, Greece, Ecuador don't matter because we can compete in spirited losses and draws against the likes of Norway, Ukraine, Costa Rica, Poland, and USA. But come the pointy end those spirited losses and draws will become wins.

Well, here we are at the pointy end and still half a decade later have no way of being able to find the goal. Here we are still getting overrun and looking completely disjointed on the pitch. The optimism and the illusion has been shattered a bit for me tonight. Sure, no Wood, no Cacace but if the yarn is we have better depth than ever before then that shouldn't be an issue. We just arent that good, and don't have the tools in the kit to be able to deliver the goods.

In the history of the All Whites, there has never been a coach who has enjoyed more benefits than Darren Bazeley. Two ALM teams, a good number of players playing in quality leagues around the world and financing to play quality teams around the world.

He will blame the injuries....no doubt. But when you pick players that are near 40 you looking for trouble. Yes, Woods and Boxall can be picked because of their quality and experience, but the rest....I don't think so. Who is surprised by Singh being injured? As a coach you need to account for this. Playing style is just amateur. He has no clue how to get the best out of these players.

Does anybody see him going on after the WC?

3 teams going to the world cup lost by 2 goals today. A worrying sign for these teams. NZ still have a chance to turn there form around. But im not sure how they want to play, what is there game plan? Possession football, counter attack? How will they play against certain teams eg Belgium vs iran. I hope they have a game plan by now.

I wonder what sort of crowd we would have had in Wgtn?
The most alarming thing for me is less than 3 months from the WC how underdone we look. Normally by now the basics should be there. Being combatative and well organised, having an organised press, having a scheme for playing out the back, being coordinated when attacking in the box. All this needs work. This time in 2010 we were beating Serbia. We made a very young Finland team look like Barcelona.
We need Bell starting...he knows how to pass. Old looks good. Randall made a difference but the problems are in midfield.
Its a shame after so much hype getting the AWs back home that they came up with a dud performance. They really need to lift it against Chile

As I mentioned before   -that's what you get with "jobs for the boys" like the coaches (HC not even been in charge at NL level and AC v;Readings,Elliot - for real) with no idea/man management and/or tactical knowledge at international level- no surprise- DB will select the same players (Just,Tuiloma,Mac Cowatt etc) for the WC but not  performance based- not his fault to being completely out of his depth - NZF will never learn even with the best budget and squad ever available and an easy WC route and draw- for example like Australia appointed GH for the WC to have success

Go Media has to be the home of football  in Auckland. Fill that up and get the active support where the Port usually are. Give us the home advantage at least.

Just shows how poor our second team are. EPL—-> bottom of L1 or not starting bottom of ALM for our strikers
Championship to near bottom ALM for our FBs.
Our midfield…bit of a mystery! That’s some good players hurting their reputations.

As someone said, McCowatt and Just don’t produce without thought about how to play them.

Old had…an okay game? Randall and Bayliss looked okay? Got annoyed at the players yelling at Bayliss for shooting. The Jets philosophy seems to be shoot if you feel you’ve hit the shot, we’ll make another chance in a second.

A lot of leadership missing from the starting team: Boxall, Bell, Billy T, Cacace, Wood

Agree with this all but it’s not about personnel. Just has arguably been one of the best players in Scotland this year. McCowatt is getting a lot of goals/assists in a decent league. It’s how the team is being setup that’s the problem.

We are well and truly past the "can't wait to see these young men develop". They are now well into their primes and careers - absolutely nothing has changed. The bottom line is NZF refuses to invest in staff that have the experience, knowledge and drive to make a stamp on this country's football. There is nothing that defines this team. What are they known for? At least the 2010 team, despite the boring kind of football, had steel to them - a character that allowed them to overperform, or much better opposition to underperform. This team, despite having all the talent needed to do better, is stagnating. They don't need to win even half of the games. Just score and create an identity for the fans to have something to cheer about and hold onto. The noticable lack of passion by NZF and the staff will inevitably flow through to the players and that is what we are seeing.

The main problem with the AW is not Bazelys fault. He was fifth or sixth choice and could do a job as a coach not HC or main man.

NZ Football really needs to get the next appointment right as I don't see how Bazely gets renewed with performances like this.

When a coaches football philosophy is to "Get the ball up quick", the team is always going to lose possession at the wrong moment when players are out of position. Eg Columbia 1st goal against All Whites.

Your midfield has to keep possession and be patient. The team moved up together and defends together. This is such simple stuff... especially because there are players in this squad who can do it

It's not the players, it's the coach who is at fault. 2010 team was so much harder for opposition teams to break down and that's why you can beat a team like Italy. Shocking technical ability from Baze.

Who says "well if these certain players are fit, they going to the world cup" in an interview. Even though most fans agree, you keep that a mystery until the final moment when you name the WC squad.

Yep, the likes of Kosta ripping him for shooting was dire

verses a lob into the box for Kosta dwarfed by a massive unit.

Auckland will rise once more
