It was terrible as we were carrying Reid, Wood got injured and they had as much venom as a pussy cat.
The AWs need to be tactically adaptable (given our depth and type of opposition we play). Appreciate they get limited time to train but I agree - if FDV is exposed 1 v 1 you'd want a CB covering. If he goes forward and doesnt get back - either the 6 or the CB.
This just puts ALOT on Bell's shoulders.
If we played 3 at the back then TP and FDV got get forward more and cross the ball to wood etc from more advanced positions; less worried about getting caught out.

Iredale has been in the wider Socceroos conversation for a few years. Injuries have held him back. Seems he's a regular starter now at Hibs, and I guess playing well. Poppa has a number of defenders, incl Karacic last minute out so he picks him.
I doubt looking to be alpha, beta, or whatever comes into it at all.
Australia I'm guessing have well over 50 players overseas outside the ALM playing at a decent level. Maybe closer to 100. They have picked 24 alone for this window. Both Poppa and Arnold before him have cast the net wide. Plenty of guys that have had a few caps, then never been picked again. A bit like the AWs in Hudson's era, except his picks often came from 3rd tier Holland, Thailand or the Handy Prem as he tried to uncover a gem
I'll add to this that Thomas is very much a full time #6 at this club these days, maybe if you are remembering young Ryan Thomas then what you asked is a fair question martinb

I was aware of that, but also that Stamenic has been playing a more advanced role at times too, so given Thomas’ versatility…
